If I was feeling generous I could choose to read it as a commentary on the party leaders trying to make it about them when in reality local elections are all about how often people's bins are emptied.

Clearly the real winners are the Lib Dems who reclaimed less than a quarter of the seats they lost in 2014. Not Labour who managed to increase their vote compared to the 2014 result where Ed Miliband was widely considered to be on the way to number 10. The Conservatives also deserve strong congratulations for holding on to the losses they made in 2014.
