Yeah my instinct is optimism here, but I've learned to recoil from my optimism.

crunching more numbers, it looks like kshama only needs about 55% of the remaining votes to win (reminder she got 59.3% of today’s drop) cautiously optimistic

Man, even I was surprised by how drastically it turned in Sawant's favor. Based on the other results that updated today, after all that money spent by Amazon and Moms for Seattle or whatever it's called, they got only one of their preferred candidates in (or zero if something crazy happens in the next ballot drop for Scott)

Just signed up to help with the Rebecca Parsons campaign for wa06. Her platform is really really good. Helped out Joshua Collins last week a bit but definitely not driving all the way to Olympia. Haven't done alot of political stuff since 2016 after the whole kick in the gut of Bernie then some medical problems and then then tromp. Kinda excited to get back on the horse. Any of yall doin stuff?

Want to send out a big "gently caress you" to all Snohomish County voters that voted in the Sheriff candidate Adam Fortney. Any police officer whining that "instead of criminals, police are the ones that are being cuffed by regulations" is someone that wants to be above the law and should not even wear a badge.

Of course, this year it was bought for $850k, demolished, and now a 3 story pseudo-Craftsman McMansion is there in its place, spread across the entire lot, where you could probably fit four of the kind of place I'm living in, to say nothing of 10+ apartments. I wouldn't have minded the construction noise so much if it hadn't been going toward something so wasteful. It's not even the ugliest of the teardown/replacement houses in this neighborhood either. Like, I know everyone hates on developers for that kind of development, but they can probably get more money for 4 modest homes than one mongo home, the reason they don't build that in in-demand, dense urban areas is usually because they can't.

I'm so happy to see the day when the Chamber of Commerce loses control of the city council. And all it took was Amazon trying to ham-handedly do the same thing (as a single, giant, more obviously troubling business).

I'm moving out of District 3 this weekend, and I was going to be real pissed to leave it in the hands of Orion. Now I can allow myself a sliver of optimism for the future of this city. By the way, I saw on twitter a statement Durkan made (to Crosscut for some article) when asked about the city council results, and lol. It's 90% "look how progressive I am too, really".

Honestly regardless of how anyone feels, the fact that for the last couple of days conservatives have been running "AMAZON BEAT THE SOCIALIST" Headlines and idiots like Dori Monson dancing on her graves now look even stupider then usual. Also didn't Orion already declare victory election night too?

I remember hearing a bit on OPB... last year? where they were talking about some county in Southern Oregon, in which rural fire services were largely provided by private departments. There was reportedly some issue where people were getting financially burned because subscribers to one of the departments would call for help, and then the other department would get there first and bill them the non-subscriber rate. The guy being interviewed then said "but we don't necessarily want big gov't solutions either, so it's tough."
