I almost went to a TMP showing today, but I realized I have a better sound system and protector at home so I'm not sure what I would be getting out of the experience.

zoux posted:Saw the episode with Tuvok and Harry fighting over a hologram gf that gains sentience and attacks the ship. They remark that this happened before on the Enterprise-D and I'll remark that if that happened to a real quasi-military organization they'd yank every loving holoprojector out of every starfleet ship 30 seconds after they got the report that Sherlock Holmes' archnemesis almost destroyed the flagship of the fleet. Correction: she wasn't a hologram. She was an alien femcel physicist/hacker who got too deep into online RPing as a distraction from her crippling loneliness. That episode comes off much differently after 20+ years worth of experience with the internet.

The motion picture definitely believed in the philosophy of show the money. The movie lovingly spent as much time as possible on the Enterprise v g e r and shatner's hair piece as possible.

"Unity" is the first A-grade Voyager episode I've seen so far. Borg still scary, even when they're trying to be nice. "Blood Fever" is a weird one, but gotta give Tom Paris the Consent King crown of the 24th century. Also shows that only medicinal holodeck sex is permissible in the future. "The Darkling" aka Evil Doctor is a very bad episode on paper but it's elevated to watchable by Picardo's Mr Hyde. Some subtle make-up cues help, but he utterly disappears in the role and really makes you feel like he's a different person than the Doc.

Phillips also said that he felt they were never quite sure what to do with that relationship given the age-gap and the optics of it. I'm trying to think of good romantic cast relationships from Trek and I got Riker/Troi (though I'm not sure they were officially together during the series' run), Worf and Jadzia and Kirk and Spock. I personally never gave a poo poo, I'm here for crystalline entities and nebular anomalies not boring wallpaper romance! Hit the road Vash!

Troi/Riker/Worf was a love triangle for nearly half of TNG but they were never allowed to actually develop or commit to any aspect of the relationship because TNG was an episodic syndicated status quo change-agnostic show. It looked like Worf was ultimately going to be the one they went with for Deanna at the end of TNG, but then Worf went to Deep Space Nine and TNG movie writers went "gently caress it, just have Riker and Troi get back together."

The first bit of it is in "Ethics" when she's helping him come to terms with his broken back and the possibility the corrective surgery might fail, but it doesn't reoccur until "Parallels" in the middle of season 7 and then for a few more episodes after that

skasion posted:There’s a couple of other Worf/Troi moments in season 7. I definitely wouldn’t call it a love triangle. The whole rift between Future Riker and Future Worf, the whole reason why Worf left the Federation and went back to the Klingon Empire in All Good Things is because they couldn't square the fact that they both loved Deanna and she died in the AGT future. So when Picard tells them of what happens in the future he say, Riker and Worf mutually resolve to never let that actually happen. But you're right, it never really crosses into being a proper love triangle, at least in the traditional conflict-driven sense. It was a very grown up, emotionally mature situation of "Troi has the hots for both Riker and Worf, really can't decide between them or if she even wants to be in a relationship with either of them, and Riker and Worf are just cool with it it." It's a very "everyone gets along space future" type of thing.

Im pretty sure that every instance of worf and troi is a psychic fantasy (eye of the beholder) alt universe (parallells) or alt future (all good things). The closest they ever came to flirting in normal spacetime was when she was possessed by a ghost and threw him across ten forward.
