People actually use auto-text advance? I've always found it annoying, personally. Either I'm reading the text and I'm done way before the auto-advance kicks in, or I'm listening to voiceovers, in which case I still want manual control in case I mishear something and need to re-read.

One that sticks out in my memory is when a demon comments on your haircut and asks where you got it done. If you answer a fancy salon there's a chance the demon will just give you some money because they're worried about your finances. Correction, there's no autobattle. I am not sure what "auto" does in battle Oh wow the same devs did Lost Dimension, I have that and have been meaning to play more than a few minutes of it. Apparently they did the sequel to this game and Monark, I've been eyeing Monark but it never goes on a decent sale. Crystar is another I've been thinking about. Neat. There is demon fusion but you unlock it quite a bit later than I would have liked. Also the costs for demon summoning out of your compendium are really high so you can't nearly as easily recycle demons over and over to fuse a really strong demon without carefully planning the chain vs trial and error until you land on what you want. Demons giving you stuff in dungeons isn't entirely random either. Certain spots will always have certain items while others will respawn and cycle through different possibilities and there's no real way of telling which is which.

I think I wasn't paying close enough attention because I had to learn this a hard way, but as a very important tip in Mato Anomalies - when you are in a multi-area dungeon and teleport to a new area, it permanently saves your progress to that "depth" of the dungeon. You can exit, restock supplies, then go right back in where you were with that acting as a checkpoint. And in QoL features allowing you to skip all the card games once you've lost 3 times is a godsend. Just, I could smooch you Arrowiz.

I beat Jade Empire, was even shorter than I remembered at about 15-16 hours. I mostly enjoyed it, tho it’s kind of funny that the first three chapters are normal length then the next 4 chapters are between 1 and 3 fights with almost nothing else to do roleplaying wise. The second to last chapter you get the last real choice with Death’s Hand, which most of your party doesn’t like. I was mostly just seeing how evil the path described as not evil til a conversation at the very end let you get and turns out, pretty loving evil. The princess/silk fox had fallen in love with me after two conversations, and black whirlwind just wanted to kill, and the demon girl had to follow my orders anyway but the rest were bound to my service while still being aware of what they were doing which was pretty hosed up. Then you end up killing them anyway 5 minutes later so you can corrupt the water dragon body so it was kind of weird to include. I dunno if it’s actually the case but between the amount of characters, npcs becoming your best friend after one or two conversations even more than normal BioWare, and there being 7 chapters with 4 of them combined being shorter than the last three, but it really seems like they got to the imperial city and then ran out of time/budget and had to kinda give a theme park ride for the rest of the areas.

Even companies that swear up and down they won't use AI are going to have to walk that back pretty soon if these things keep getting better. Even a lot of the 'lol it can't even do x' takes from two or three months ago are already pretty dated, so unless there's a major bottleneck it's going to hit pretty much tomorrow, it's going to be better than a large majority of humans at most writing related tasks very quickly, and obviously much, much faster.

ill believe it when i see it tbh, people have said the same thing about all sorts of tech and the moment you think beyond the most absolute basic setting and characters AI suddenly runs into a ton of issues. any sensitive topic is one AI will basically never be equipped to handle. Due to how AI is made its politics are going to be the dominant politics of the internet, which are largely slightly-left-of-center american. Ubisoft games basically already have the feel of something AI generated so no surprise they're jumping on it but even something as banal as like, Persona 5, would not really take AI well. Not to mention any setting other than the real world. You can sort of train AI to account for the most generic fantasy stuff like orcs or whatever but if your setting is actually unique it's always going to be hard to give the AI enough training material to 'understand' it.

I think like, the army of Ubisoft programmers whose job was to handmake incredibly detailed models of real life locations might be out of a job. (Or not, because if there's anything companies love it's using sweatshop labor). The idea that AI could "replace" anything outside of something so formulaic as the Ubisoft copy-paste mold is ridiculous though.

Slap some editors on top to give the AI oversight and I think it's pretty insane to say it can't do x or y given how much poo poo people said was science fiction has already changed in the last year. Maybe the model's going to run into hard limits soon, but it can already do better on writing tests than most college students.

AI being widespread and successful is probably inevitable* but, not to get romantic, people value human expression a lot in art. like thats sort of the point of it *you can tell it'll be successful because its being used for porn, see: VHS, online chatrooms, the internet

It'll definitely get used more because corporations love nothing more than cutting costs and loving over their workers, but it's going to suck rear end and be noticable. chaptGPT and poo poo is not actually "AI" in any actual sense of the word and it's always going to run into issues that a human writer wouldn't just innately. With editing and crap it'll be less noticable but it's always going to be slightly off without heavy heavy editing.
