This hits a bit close to home for me; my father struggled with undiagnosed PTSD for his whole life, which led to my parents divorcing. We really need better mental health care in this country, especially for veterans. It would be even better if we could destigmatize therapy; had the author of that comic gone to a marriage counselor with his wife, he probably could have saved his marriage and not put his kids through a divorce.

I also like his reaction to being asked to have kids or get married. Just a hair above, "meh."

The permits require your snakes be licensed, that you prove your snakes are stored securely, and you must provide an inventory of your animals annually and notify the government if you sell one.

I didn't get emotional at all, actually, but that may have more to do with me walking through ground zero every day and associating the place with a tourist attraction.

It's the war memorials that get me.

My high school put the tvs on and left them on, but muted, all day while the teachers tried to instruct over it. We didn't go home early but no one got anything done despite the teachers' best efforts.

My friend's dad was supposed to be at the WTC that day and no one could get ahold of him. (He was completely fine, he was a very lucky man.) Her mom didn't pick her up because she thought the school wouldn't tell the students about it and that way she'd be able to break it to her daughter when there was more information.

Does anyone have that text about how "John Q. Conservative wakes up every day, drives past a hundred examples of government programs that exist to improve his life, and then goes on the internet to complain about how he's never needed any help in his life"?
Might not be the one you are thinking of, but...

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration.

I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration.

At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school.

After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal’s inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.

I then log on to the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right.

Thing is, people passing in the parking lot don't know its 'only a few minutes.' Should they wait until the kid is obviously in medical distress (when its much harder to keep them alive) to intervene? She did something stupid that very well could have killed her children.

Its like driving drunk. Its so loving easy to not leave your children unattended in a car where they can die in a very short period of time. Bring them with you. Yes, it might be a slight inconvenience. You might have to deal with a tantrum. That's part of parenting.
