Buy all of it. With the exception of a few things that seem to always be half price everywhere I think anything that's 50% off you could probably sell for a profit. For some it might not be worth the hassle though.

Just make sure it's 50% off MRSP not a big retail mark-up. Brickset have some mobile phone aps that could help with that. In general I'd say the more recent the better. Current Star Wars and Ninjago over City and Creator. Some City and Creator sets often have high mark-ups and big discounts so they might be ones that could catch you out.

Unpopular sets from themes on their way out (Pharoah's Quest, Alien Conquest) or leftovers from stuff like Prince of Persia might not be worth it either.

It may also depend what country you're in. In the UK 50% of a discontinued line happens now and then and isn't a massive deal. In the US it's still pretty unusual.

Alright, thanks for the tips! I don't own a smartphone but I've got a lot of prices memorized anyway.

Uh, yeah, about this. I live in Sweden and 50% off everything is pretty unusual it seems, I read somewhere it only happens when a new store opens.

When I came by the store this morning the line outside was about 100m long! Up front were a bunch of 30-something AFOL-looking guys carrying a big black garbage bag and a blue IKEA bag. I left because I figured everything would be gone by the time I got in and I didn't feel like standing in line.

Came back over an hour later and the line was half as long so I figured I could pick up whatever was left. But it turns out they had stocked up for the occasion and I got a pretty good catch!

In hindsight I should have come earlier, stood in line, picked up The Black Pearl, Jabba's Palace (I saw a few people carrying these when I came in but they were gone from the shelves, same thing with BP) and the Unimog, gone home and come back for a few smaller sets. But being fresh out of uni and unemployed that would probably have ruined me before I would have the chance to sell them.

The City sets are for me, BTW. :v:

Same here, it doesn't look much larger than the tie fighter which costs half as much.

Yeah, The Space Centre right next to it in the pic has fewer pieces but actually weighs more and also cost half as much. The SW plus Old Republic brand does that, I guess. I also figure Lego has figured out the value of unique minifigs (which are as cool looking as the ship in this case).

Since they're so new, would it be best to sell the one I'm not going to keep ASAP or wait until they're not in production anymore?

When I left after lunch they still had piles of fire and police stations and other City sets. Wouldn't suprise me if they're doing another smaller sale soon.

If you pick up the Interceptor could you let us know how it is? I've seen some pretty glowing reviews and at this point I'm planning on making it my last major purchase until the Hobbit sets come out in Dec (Helm's Deep was waiting at my door when I got home, yesss)

I realize you asked The Rage but since I built my Sith Interceptor yesterday and he hasn't written anything yet, I thought I'd share my impressions.

The ship is pretty small. Looking at it it doesn't give the impression of a model in that price range. The build and the weight, however, does. It's dense.

Two bags are used for the cockpit and main part of the hull. The other four are used for the wings (two for each) but because of the complexity of the wings building them doesn't become repetitive. That said there aren't really any unique pieces, but a lot of useful ones, like the 'pistons' used for the folding mechanism of the wings. Sadly the sides of the ship full of 'generic star wars electronics' are DSS and the light saber hilt is some sort of shiny metallic colour rather than chrome.

The minifigs, on the other hand, are the most detailed I have ever seen and don't appear in any other set since this is the only one based on the TOR license (right?) E: Just realized it's not the only one. The figs are still unique however. They are printed front and back and the acessories have small protrusions that follow the printing, like the black dots on the front of the sith troopers' helmets.

It was fun to build and looks really good from all angles. The time it took to put together and the complexity suprised me but I honestly wouldn't pay full price for it.

Cowgirl, Shakespeare and Pretzel Boy are all great for variety, but the random favorite has to be the newest Lego villain: The Banker. That bowler hat hiding insidious money-making plots, that briefcase holding the deeds to any number of shady businesses, that City Financial News paper oh-so carelessly held at the waist. Truly Lego has their thumb on the heartbeat of modern society.

Love the banker's hat.

Is making moulds cheaper for TLG nowadays? Even if there are some reuses every collectibles series has had a couple of new acessories AFAIK. Or are they just that popular to warrant making one-off bagpipes and such?

I sorted through most of my old stuff today and now the tip of my left index finger is sore. It was a challenge finding the right number of catergories and estimating the volume of each category. And of course actually sorting stuff into said categories. Like this thing. Hinge piece, window/cockpit or misc?

I'm also realizing it's going to be difficult finding the right plates with my current division between rectangular and non-rectangular. Does anyone have any tips on how to sort plates further? I'm thinking of a breaking point at 4 studs' length.

I may have gone a bit over board with the number of categories but I get some perverse sense of satisfaction from sorting things, so.

So I'm building A Thing. It's a spaceship and now I'm looking for interesting ideas for a modern/sci-fi research area. Looking at interior shots of the ISS, modern space labs seem to be mostly walls full of computers and boxes. Walls covered in computers is always good but I want something more distinct that can rest on a small table.

So far I've built a 4X6 table with an x-ray machine and a microscope. I'm thinking of adding a table with some circular machinery with lots of cables attached (sort of like this) but I can't really figure out how to make it compact yet detailed.

Does anyone have a resource for this? I guess what I'm looking for is like those furniture pics you sometimes see, only space-themed.

More here. It has a crew of two, a large heat-shield for entering atmospheres, lab equipment, detachable fuel tanks, airlock door with a small winch and a surface vehicle stored in the cargo hold.

I'm still making some modifications to it and I'm not sure about the color-scheme but overall I'm happy with how it turned out. It was especially fun and challenging building something completely sideways, so to speak.

Also I really need proper lighting when shooting black plastic indoors.
