Do the different Deathsquad podcasts ("What's Good", etc.) have different intent / cover different ground, or is it just different people? I understood what Skeptic Tank was, but don't know if I could listen to the others until I understand what I'm getting into.

Also, any word on Ari Shaffir's timing to start up his spinoff Skeptic Tank podcast?

Oh hey, I see Skeptic Tank is already up and going.

What's Good is a pretty good podcast to get into if you are really into hip hop. I'm going to say a good 50+ percent of it is talk about old school rap/hip hop. Also Freddy Lockheart is pretty funny, and does amazing impressions.

I'd say that generally all of the Deathsquad podcast are fairly different as different comics are running it and do their own thing with it. Guests can overlap though, however when it's a good one (like Justin Martindale) it's always funny to me. I also really like Your Mom's House, as it's always wholesome talk about poop and dental updates. It's still pretty different from the Naught Show, which usually has porn stars or other skeevy guests as features.

Also my favourite video: what Ari Shaffir really saw during his salvia trip.

edit: is it just me or is it impossible to watch the ustream because of lag?

I pretty much agree, he's way better on the podcasts he produces with other comics. Also while he can get pretty bad sometimes, especially with Joe, he provides people with tons of free content and I can honestly say that I wouldn't be able to do my mundane job without his or Joe's podcasts.

Also sometimes I'll watch the ustream for a few minutes if I end up catching it live, but I lose interest and just download the audio for them later.

I forgot to post back when I listened to it, but did it seem to anyone else that Joe called out a few of his guests during the show? I don't feel like going back through multiple hours of episode, but I feel like during the Doug Benson episode he got him to admit to taking fake liquor shots and generally being kind of phony. I may or may not have been under some influences at the time, so maybe I was reading into the dialogue a certain way...but I don't remember reading anyone comment on it here. I feel like he called someone else out (in a relatively affable way) another time as well...maybe Bert?

I just listened to that podcast the other day and I didn't really feel like he was 'called out' or Joe gave him much poo poo, but I was working and not paying full attention. I think it's pretty disingenuous to do that, but on the other hand it is Doug's job and maybe he doesn't like to get wasted on stage.

edit: also in regards to all things beings said over and over again: I agree to an extent. For the past 6 or 7 months I could get through all podcasts and be very entertained, but recently I've been turning them off halfway or if I get annoyed with what they are talking about. It still is free entertainment and I'm thankful for Joe and co. for keeping me entertained for hours at work.

There was a super awkward moment where he wanted his manager to come to the mic, but his manager refused and then he started talking about how he was going to get a new manager.

Also Russel Peters showed up like 2 hours in with 6 or 7 other people that just hung in the back.

:( Oh Brian. I think it'll eventually blow over between him and Duncan, Redban and Joey apparently were fighting for a month or something. Redban is doing a podcast right now and seems fine.

WHY SEE ESS
Sep 12, 2006
Brian is far from the best host, but I think he does provide the necessary 3rd element as other people have mentioned. The podcast with just Duncan and Joe was alright, but it does seem like something was off. I think Joe + one other guest would get boring fast, and people would want another person to be in on the conversation.

I feel pretty bad for Brian because he's obviously going through a lot right now. Him and his girlfriend broke up, two porn girls are harassing him over a podcast he produced for them, Jay Mohr is 'trolling' him on twitter for no apparent reason, and now this argument with Duncan has blown up.

It seems like Duncan lashed out at redban, maybe rightfully so over something he said, was just in anger. Duncan has also apologized multiple times, and Redban does't seem to want to accept. He seriously needs to just let it go and not take personal criticism too hard, but he obviously has a huge issue just admitting he's wrong. Everyone knows about Bill Burr and RSS feeds, but there was also another time where Ari called him out on loving with people while they're tripping and Brian couldn't even say 'sorry' or 'I didn't know I was doing that'. I really do hope that he apologizes to Duncan and grows up from this rather than continuing to be resentful and further alienating himself from Joe's friends/other comics.

People give a lot of poo poo to Brian, and I guess a bit of it is deserved. Still, he puts his heart and his soul (and probably a poo poo load of money too) into providing totally free podcasts that help me get through boring days at work.

This would be awesome, but realistically he'd probably be too busy to do a podcast every week or even every second week. I like that Bert/Ari/Joey etc. come on every month and a half rather than every day, because if they did they'd probably run out of stories to tell.

The most recent bonezone was from Oct 9th and was uploaded on Oct 18th, so why would he keep adding podcasts if they had a falling out? The whole Doug Benson/Brendan Walsh thing was a long time ago and was just a minor thing (Brendan was drunk and Doug confronted him about it or something). Also, sometimes they do "Home Zones" where they just podcast from home without Redban and they've been doing it for a while now.

I saw Tom Segura and Brendan Walsh in Toronto a few weeks ago, both were loving amazing. Brendan came up to the Game of Thrones theme conducting it with his middle fingers. Amazing.

Ari ends up going to a lot of UFC events since he usually opens for Rogan, so it's not surprising he knows a lot of people in MMA. He's done podcasts with at least 2 or 3 other fighters I think. I'm going to assume he's either (a) always high as gently caress, (b) hasn't scoffed his alpha-brain, or (c) is preternaturally dumb.

I think the issue that Bert had with Jay was that at first Jay told the Tracy Morgan joke in the perspective of 'this is a story of something that happened to my friend' which Bert was fine with. However it quickly became 'this is a story about something that happened to myself' and it became Jay's story completely, or at least until Bert told the machine/Tracy Morgan story on the podcast and gained his cult following. Bert has a whole chapter about it in his new book.

I saw him and Tony a while ago. I thought Tony was pretty good but Redban is exactly how you'd imagine him: a 3-4 year comedian who tells 'zany' stories. If you've heard his story about doing shrooms and fingering a dolphin you've heard his act. For how long he's been doing comedy, which is I think 4 or 5 years max, he isn't that bad. That being said, stacked up against all of the people he takes on the road/have been doing it 8+ years and are legit professionals, he does not stack up well at all. It's pretty ridiculous that he can go on the road with him + 1 and sell out shows. He has to be the luckiest comedian ever to perform for hundreds of people himself and thousands with Joe at his skill level. I'm pretty sure he doesn't talk to Brandon Walsh anymore because Brandon literally called him a lovely comedian to his face on an Icehouse podcast and I can't say I blame him.

My theory is that Joe's getting into an argument with Jamie Killstein about the whole Daniel Tosh Rape thing is when he turned from 'both sides are right/wrong about certain things' to consistent alt right views. Not that I think that Killstein is funny or right, but you could see that the idea of rape culture and telling women to get raped perhaps is not a good thing broke him in a fundamental way. After that podcast he def went down the Breitbart hole. He has on constant right/alt right people that reaffirm his views and it's up to him who he wants on his show, but would love an actual leftist to challenge him. I know that actual scientist Cara Santa Maria usually says leftist things and he has no response and just lets her talk. Then next episode he goes back to ranting about sjws.

Only listened to 20 mins of his new special but seems descent. Hope I get triggered soon.
