The only contestant I dread coming back is Matt. He's probably a really nice guy but I can't stand him; he can't get in front of the camera for more than a minute or two before annoying the hell out of me. I can see why people think Austin is cocky, but he honestly doesn't bother me.

He's fighting through, but it certainly sounds like he's having a rough go of it now. He's done really well considering what he's going through. Watching Jeopardy, I'm not even sure I would have realized he was going through cancer treatments if I hadn't already known. I keep turning it on every evening expecting an announcement that he's going to step down for health reasons, though.

Honestly, I like Classic Jeopardy - the set, the music - a lot better than modern Jeopardy. I'd missed the classic Jeopardy theme and think music. The only mildly annoying thing was the audience reacting to every little thing with either applause or exaggerated "Oohs!". I had forgotten how bad '80s and '90s game shows were for that.

Did Regis ever do stand-up comedy? He had the delivery and timing of someone who could have made a decent living at it. This episode made me realize how cool he was (it had been a while since I had actually seen Regis in anything).

The '80s Jeopardy theme is the best, along with this (which I wish they'd bring back): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJzYa-Upui8 The new 'board fill' sound sucks. It's like a default ringtone for a smartphone.

Her Dad was playing around with the disk, found all the .wav files of Alex doing voiceover, and the sound effects, and re-recorded them in his voice. When my wife started a game, the first thing she would hear is her father going "doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo" for the board fill. That's really cool! I hope she was able to keep the .wavs. I was reluctant to watch last night's episode because I knew it'd be sad. But I'm glad I did; that was a great tribute. Alex hosted Jeopardy almost my entire life (I was born in March of '84). He will be missed.

I thought he did fine, honestly, and I liked the little monologue he delivered at the beginning of the show. But I'd definitely like to see LeVar get a chance. He'd be a great host. Katie Couric is out of left field, though.

Trebek did this for 30 years, he might as well have been Jeopardy itself, it's going to be longer than a week before people start to move on from that I was going to say: in fairness to Ken, Alex is a tough act for anyone to follow. I don't disagree that Ken lacks the 'authoritative voice', though. He comes off as well meaning and sincere but dorky.

But that's a minor quibble; I think he's done a great job. He's a better interviewer than Alex generally was towards the end because he engages more with contestants instead of just saying "Good for you!" (I'm sure Alex was exhausted so I don't blame him). More than anyone else, I'd like to see what LeVar Burton can do as guest host. Either of those two would make fantastic hosts.

Bialik is better than Oz (after the Richards debacle I half expected them to make another boneheaded choice like that), but it still feels like they're just not listening. At all. Almost everyone has said from the beginning that Ken was one of the best choices, and for reasons I don't quite get they seem ready to pass him over. I really don't get it.

I just don’t get the push for Mayim when Ken is available, willing (as far as I know) and has a history with the show. It’s not that I really have much of a problem with her but Ken is a much more natural fit.

I don't really have that much against her, but Mayim feels like she's being pushed on us in a similar way to Richards. The main difference is that I don't think Mayim is pulling strings behind the scenes to propel herself to the top job; it just seems like executives are set on giving the hosting position to her.

"Smarmy" is a great word for Mayim's hosting style. I don't know if she realizes she comes across that way, but there's a smugness to her that's especially galling when you consider the fact that Ken has a reason to be smug and isn't.
