So I poke into the thread for a good laugh at people having terrible ideas and I see a KS for a new Ultima game. With this, Torment, Wasteland, and Shadowrun, suddenly I don't know if I'm actually dead and in some kind of magical heaven where fairies float around granting wishes for sequels and updates to the games and franchises I love, or if this is some hell where all the fairies are secretly monkey paws and everything I love will turn into complete poo poo.

Yeah its a new Ultima game but isn't it actually Richard Garriot doing it? I don't really know much about it but from what I've read most people don't really trust him to do something worthwhile from a Kickstarter project. Public opinion may have changed since I last read up on it though so take this with a grain of salt.

A short time ago, the idea came about to try to remake the old school RPG into something that gamers in today's high quality 3D gaming world would enjoy, but also keeping it to something that older RPG fans would also enjoy. We wanted to stick to old school RPG basics for us older gamers, with the classic text boxes, turn based battles, and a kind of anime feel, but we wanted to make it 3D with realtime gameplay and industry standard visuals so that younger gamers could enjoy it as well.

So they want to make the game both real time and turn based? How is that gonna work out for them?

Yeah their website says they teach tile based mapping, pixel art, and conditional statements. If you're capable of reading the help file of RPG Maker VX Ace teaches you all about most of these things, and altering preexisting sprites for RPG Maker isn't exactly difficult, since you can do it in loving MS Paint.

That's awesome, but I don't know of too many 9 year olds who sit down in front of a computer and read documentation.

Anyone actually interested in getting into the STEM sector at all would most certainly have no problem reading that stuff. I used to have an older version of RPG Maker when I was around 9 as well, maybe closer to 11, but I sat down and read through everything I felt I needed to learn to do it. Even if you don't like reading, there is countless YouTube and picture/text tutorials all over the web for it. What they really need is RPG Toolkit, I believe it was called. God was that a horrible pile.

Considering she's already tweeting it at everyone she can I imagine this is going to be the case. Or she'll just take all the money people donated because Kickstarter doesn't give a gently caress, and save herself 900 dollars (or however much it has reached, I haven't looked since it was first posted). If she had been up front about how rich she was I'd like to think it wouldn't be successful, but there is a lot of god drat stupid people out there willing to pay for just about anything. Yeah except that it clearly violated their ToS, so right now they look like a bunch of morons. It has nothing to do with taste so much as, I don't know, obeying their own loving rules. They put them in place after all. I'd rather see idiots like this woman going to less scrupulous sites so that intelligent enough people will know not to back them. The disgusting thing is that it probably will with people other than us, not everyone visits websites like Kotaku and whoever else did an article. And unfortunately if more good Kickstarters like Wasteland 2 and stuff pop up, even we will eventually give in, regardless of if we decided to boycott or not. Its just really sketchy, the reason you put a goal is because presumably that is how much it will take you to accomplish your goal, with flexible funding whatever people donate instantly goes to you, and it doesn't matter if you reach your goal or not, so chances are its either scammy or the people who made it are idiots who shouldn't be trusted with money.

I know theres a thread for advice, and I've been following it- however the advice I'm asking from you all is not how to make it great... instead it is how to make it not suck in the ways most people fall into suckage.

My only piece of advice is please do not do the "oh hey didn't see you there" turn towards camera bullshit that like 3/4 of the Kickstarters I have seen have in their pitch video.

I mean I'd like for my serious summary to come across as such but I don't know if maybe its coming across off as insincere. I don't want to make a gloomy campaign since that's not me. As I said people give me more than $3500 it won't be used on medical bills but a creative endeavor instead.

But maybe I'm giving people the wrong idea. I mean yes I need the money for my medical bills because I'm sick but I don't want it to be morose and I'm not sure how to achieve both.

I basically tried to make an identical campaign idea to this a few months ago because I was struggling with my bills and it did not go over well, I was open about how I am on disability and was just looking for help and I got a grand total of zero dollars. Yours is for a much better reason than a looming eviction though, so I do hope this actually works out for you, I can't imagine what having to pay for an MRI you need is like.

Well, get ready to stop spending hundreds of dollars on PUA handbooks and pheromone sprays, forever! We bring you the WINGDOG, a cute little shelter puppy that forces you to go outside every few days or so. It's a scientific fact, women just LOVE puppies. They'll practically explode their clothes off at the sight of one, leaving you to fill up your phone with thousands and thousands of phone numbers.

Remember, your problems do not stem from the fact your personality is rotten to the core. It's the fact that you do not have a disposable* fashion object at your side to help you win over the ladies!

* Disposable fashion object has a lifespan of 10-20 years and is in constant need of care and attention. But you promise to be responsible, don't you?

Thank god they clearly state in their first sentence its a mockumentary being made to, well mock, this exact kind of behavior. If this was a legitimate project than yeah it would be loving terrible, as it is its actually pretty hilarious.

Edit: Wow I am totally wrong sorry man, they actually do plan on just giving dogs to lonely men and filming them. Maybe this actually exists in the campaign but Indiegogo seems to be out for the count, so I can't laugh directly at them. But judging by the URL... "the new way to power your life..." Nah, this stuff already exists.

Well to be fair even if the idea itself is dumb it does say right on their page that you can in fact control it all from your iPhone or Android phone, so that actually is a feature.

Hey sorry for the late reply, I had a reply box open and my computer overheated last night and I didn't bother getting back on. It doesn't seem to come with bulbs of any kind, it just connects to your regular lighting, and the fancy touch screen one is 75 dollars through the campaign, presumably more when it has finished.
