This treasure hunt mostly makes me nostalgic for Kit Williams, who seems to have been better at art, puzzle construction, and prizes. Not to poo poo on Preiss too badly, I mostly just wish good ol Kit would come out with something as awesome as Masquerade and the bee book again. He was apparently just too shell shocked by the attention and controversy surrounding his first puzzle, which scared him away from public work. I mean the motherfucker did some kickass marquetry too. And what a goony goon: I'm sure he's old news to the experienced treasure hunters in here but his art and story are really worth checking out if you're not already familiar with it. This was some big deal stuff when I was a little kid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEIFm0UHtoo Somebody fucked around with this message at 15:14 on Mar 19, 2015 |

Wait puzzle man isn't even the artist? I guess I've really been following this casually but the author made some really vague puzzles and couldn't even paint? Seriously Kit Williams must go nuts that people still give a poo poo about this book. Or not, because it means everybody leaves him alone.

Checking in after a few months, is this thread just the "did anything happen" thread now? Maybe we can make it so only Urban Smurf posts are allowed.

Maybe so but either way he's the saving grace of this thread.

What's that other forum about solving puzzles like this? And are there more urban smurf posts there?

Sucrose posted:But seeing as this has been at least a 5 year obsession for some posters, my main question is why in all this time no company jumped on the opportunity to start a new treasure hunt, with similar visual clues, etc. Obviously the demand is there. (My apologies if this has been discussed a million times, I'm not going to read through hundreds of pages in a thread I last looked at several years ago.) I wish Kit Williams would get back in the game.

Cobalt60 posted:Serious request: can podcast guy please have Urban Smurf as a guest? Preferably a recurring segment but a single interview would be v. good. This plus an episode complaining about broken wrists and how they’re all destroyed by now and there’s no point. But mostly Urban Smurf. Actually he should just do his own podcast.

Piggy Smalls posted:The funny part was that a lot of idiots in this thread were talking poo poo about others that were calling Xie an idiot for obviously being a liar. Cmon it’s funny that there’s a bunch of people who bookmark this thread so they can get furious every time it comes back. Who cares if it’s unrealistic, it’s fun to discuss. I’d rather read a thread full of Xies and Urban Smurfs than rage about an old picture puzzle book.

People on a treasure hunting forum talk about this thread that goes nowhere? That’s the weirdest part of all that.

I’m pretty sure Urban Smurf isn’t insane and might be the only one to turn puzzle solving into conceptual art.
