I took another look at the marketplace on the chinese server, there are indeed (at least copper and silver quality) recipes for rulers, flutes, and the pretty girl weapon type, which are brass knuckles. Not using the proper weapon type makes you do 30% less damage. Gonna have to figure out a way to get them on patch day, maybe gold points?

Also why does the pretty girls get brass knuckles what that doesn't seem right.

Vendors will sell them, yes, but crappy starter ones. They can go up to class 5 jade just like other crafted stuff.

Wulin has a decent population, fewer whales, server merges at the end of the month, and 4th internals in November. The problem with Wulin is that 90% of the server is anti-random PvP and most attempts to get PvP going are squashed. The major alliance (which also hates random PvP) controls all of the super inner items, and they are zerg guilds on top of that.

Considering the months and months of extra mountain man REs that Wulin had, cash shop sets are the least of the problems.

It's funny, since Wulin is basically flourishing due to not being run by Snail. Fourth internal patch and people still clear out all the scripts each night from script-stealing, population seems to be holding at a healthy number. Also whether gPotato is good or bad, they were smart and merged servers before populations got too low, and have not even entertained the idea of a new server.

GreatestNerdEver
Aug 3, 2007
Well, out of morbid curiousity, I logged on tonight to scope out the server merge. It just made me sad, more than anything. Coming from the quality of Wulin with regards to the cash shop and other things, and knowing that if SnailUSA had put in even a mediocre amount of effort in to this version, it could have been something good. There's actually more people than I expected online, and if they had merged servers like, a year ago when we were all screaming for it, things might have turned out differently. Oh well, RIP, back to Wulin.

GreatestNerdEver
Aug 3, 2007
I said the same thing, but I like the game, I just wanted it to be run by someone better than SnailUSA. Supposedly factions patch in February, but who knows for sure. I really don't like gPotato that much either, but they at least make an effort with the game as opposed to SnailUSA.

People are a lot nicer (which makes getting them mad much easier), the economy is not quite as hosed since they combined Hua+4th set patches so there was no months of farming yanmen, script-stealing is still active (even beggar and shaolin are emptied), school wars are active, school position tournaments are still active. Aside from my mediocre ping (120ms), which is oddly better than Wushu at times considering I have to cross an ocean to connect to Wulin, I've had and I am still having fun on this version.

And hey, you can come kill LHT and HanPhong and other viets all over again, although they are huge P2Ws on this version too.

GreatestNerdEver
Aug 3, 2007
I mean, there seems to be a decent amount of people, but it's a whole lot of P2W. I wouldn't even want to try to catch up to all the new cash shop sets that were missed and getting class 6 gear.

GreatestNerdEver
Aug 3, 2007
the cash shop sets are fine, and fun, and if the game was good I would have no problems spending the money for them. the problem is that snail removes them from the shop and adds them back in for essentially double the cost with jade fragments, or puts them behind huge money barriers (tempest staff, etc.) it's part of why I like wulin, they don't remove cash sets and I pay in euros which gets me a set for 24 dollars instead of 30, if I want to buy one.

ancient finger poke comes from bags costing 30L each that have a very, very small chance to drop a fragment. 10 fragments to a skill and 7 skills. apparently you can get ghost shadow sword this way too, but it costs like 80D per skill. all of this information comes from spending 2 minutes looking at things then laughing at more money sinks, so things may or may not be correct.

I know where things go, I kept up to date on the game. Doesn't matter, it's still fun while it lasts.

Wulin as a whole feels different than my time in Wushu, having an early merge meant that there is not some power bloc dominating the game the whole way through. Combining Hua/4th set patches did not let the economy spiral out of control. Ancient sets are there but it's really no worse than Wushu was. I'm having fun with it, so oh well.

People just take getting killed very seriously. Lots of national pride, between the various groups of Russians, Germans, Brits, Chinese, and so on. It used to be a giant PvE circlejerk with guilds actively trying to stop the one or two guilds that wanted to PvP. Then the lead guild of the circlejerk imploded because they lost a guild war, the leader quit, and the guild died, and PvP was given free reign again. RainClan is the equivalent to GTC of Wushu, in that we are hated by a vast majority of the server, people go out of their way to try to kill us, and we are even allied with the viets. However, we win a vast majority of the fights, and there are a hell of a lot of them. Both sides have a a relatively equal amount of P2Ws, so that aspect is balanced.

Aside from the beginning of Wushu when we were all clueless, I'd say I've had more fun in Wulin due to things like the population staying high, and Webzen/gPotato being a smarter company in general when it comes to running the game.

It is a shame the game went down the route it did, each new patch brings new things that would be fun in a fully populated and well-run game. This patch adds the two new areas, which are divided in to four sub-zones. It's basically a giant survival minigame where you have to forage for materials, hunt for food, stay warm, fight NPCs and mercenaries, and complete story lines. If you come across players on your enemy list, you can kill them and take their materials and skill fragments, as well as their unequipped gear. They have to pay to get the gear back, just like the random PvP thing based on having high alignment.

Also cross-server school wars, and apparently the top thing to get from it is a mass PvP ancient muay thai set.

dungeons are actually easier to solo, they basically removed normal mode and made it a short, simple dungeon with less bosses that you can use to farm jade points easily for the week or some flight skills. I played in china after the change, was super easy to solo my own TV 3 man to get goose, it's a better system overall in my opinion.

the part about requiring a set amount of people is not true, I saw people soloing PCV/longmen when I assassinated.

also I just spent two hours doing the nangong family quest line only to learn that the NPCs for the four great families are busted, so you can't buy their sets, things are broken on this server and it is annoying
