Walleye Warehouse has side passages you can use to blindside them though. The mall is a straight slow slog and the sides are vertical ledges overlooking the main valley. Anyone on top is gonna splat you before you get up the wall, and most splat guns dont have the distance to kill them up there before they off you. Its just a slooow slog instead of fast-paced like the others.

Saltspray's pretty terrible for Splat Zone. You'd get a much better map with a separate Splat Zone at the high and low areas. That single Zone where it is turns into a straight king-of-the-hill with a massive advantage for the defenders: Both lifts are gonna get you killed, ditto if you try to circle around. All you have left is the ramp and the sneaky balcony, and both are easy to cover if you're on your game (Seekers are evil things :unsmigghh:)

Throw those puppies down the aisle and follow about a foot back and watch as suckers peek around at it only to get a SPLAT to the back of the head.

It's really insane how much of an advantage the defenders have in Splat Zone. Being able to just be invisible 80% of the time is huge, and most of the zones seem to just be death pits where the attackers will just have a revolving door of dead players.

The defenders have an obscenely stronger advantage on Saltspray Rig than Urchin Underpass, Inkstrikes notwithstanding. You're on top of a hill, with blind corners the attackers have to come around, and the only other way in is a small ledge that is very easy to arc paint up onto. It's also a small-enough area that everybody can watch eachother's backs. Urchin Underpass is a lot harder to hold (and far more fun) because you've got three different spread-apart places to jump in from at any given time (though of course everybody's just gotta bum-rush over that hill into Seekers and waiting ink splats), and with the Zone in the pit it's much easier for the other team to spray frantically.

the ranked penalty system makes no sense. like i understand the draw of having more competitive matches but ink strike can completely gently caress over a team that's dominated 75% of the match as it stands right now. there really should be 2 points on each map to ease up the congestion and make alternate routes worthwhile

Considering it's called Splat Zones, it would really be helped by having more than one. Hell, Saltspray Rig's practically built to have two of them.

I will agree saltspray is a very bad map for ranked unless the bottom area was given a zone, then it would become beautifully insane. Hell I'd be firing into the drat effect since I knew no one was near enough to stop me.

Edit: I'll go as far to say if your always using a strike on the zone you're doing it wrong. It's more useful to displace players usually, expecially chargers on a ledge

I managed to drop an Inkstrike right on top of the other team's and wipe out the two poor bastards that had jumped in to sieze the zone under the cover of theirs :v:.

Yeah inkstrike isnt a huge issue in ranked, it takes like a second to reink it. honestly the bubbler or kraken would do a better job to take the point imo, lets you make a good assault. Saltpray rig is bullshit though if one team gets a spawn beacon on the upper part of the map

Except Rollers are a real detriment in Ranked. Sure you've inked the Zone but now what? You're down a gun for when the Bad Guys move in to take it. The Bubbler is fantastic if you can tuck in close to shield your buddies on the Zone with it though.

I still can't figure out the blaster. Is it like a grenade launcher? I don't know why I can't wrap my mind around it.

I like the way the jet squelcher looks and how much range it has, but after using it a bunch I can't recommend it. It just doesn't do enough damage and it seems to consume a lot of ink. It's good for painting, not for splatting imo. Or maybe I'm just bad at it.

The Blaster's basically a shotgun. It fires a ball that goes blap a short distance away, or blaps in the face of someone if its hits them closer.

I had this problem too, the faster shooting one is better in normal play, but the regular blaster (or maybe a variant I haven't got yet) is better in ranked. One direct shot kills, two near misses does the same. Basically if you aren't in range to catch someone in the airburst/instakill, back off and throw a disruptor. Only get in range to kill (as in enemy doesn't see you or is hopping in your ink), otherwise just be very annoying and retreating. Obviously not killing anything won't help your team, but I found it very useful in clearing the balconies in saltspray, and around the corners in warehouse.

It's not really helping me much on arowana though, can hit stuff right below you into the splat zone, but otherwise no range for any of the open spaces.

Try using the 96-Gal on Arowana, the extra range ruins everyone else's day.

True, in the hands of competent players that's always going to make a difference, but I'm talking about the average pubbie. Most of the time when you see a roller on your side and four shooters on the other team, you may as well just tap out then and there because it's been a foregone conclusion. I say this as somebody who's been trying to make them work for hours but the long range shooter weapons are better in every way. I probably just suck though.
