Can someone make a post about the kidnapping/escort stuff? I see people with the confessions, and apparently they come from open world kidnapping. The question I have is where the hell do you get the items for the open world kidnaps? I think I heard that you get them from the daily kidnapping but in 3 days I haven't gotten poo poo.

Firstly, do your 3 kidnaps a day thing. They're very easy and you can rush through them, giving you decent experience and guild contribution. There is a small chance of gaining a better-than-white torture tool when you finish one of these.

In the guild hall, next to the torturer, you should see a bunch of kidnapped travelers. These are stock NPCs. Near them are various intractable objects which will give you a white torture tool to use on them. This should be your second choice, as you typically (always?) get white confessions from them.

Your first choice should be the higher quality torture tools. There's no limit to how many confessions you can earn a day, but you can only use three (or rather, hijack three times). To increase the odds of a good confession, you want to kidnap the NPCs you find in the open world. A NPC in the guild hall (forgot which) sells kidnap bags for 1 guild credit each. Use them on the world kidnap targets, which will put them in a bag which you have to bring back to the guild hall, to a NPC next to the one that gives you the kidnap missions.

Once you bring in a NPC you kidnapped, he will show up in a cage and you can then torture him for a confession. Combine high quality NPCs with high quality tools for best results.

Also, if you aren't getting any good tools, just find a goon who is. We can only do 3 hijacks a day and there's no drawback to bringing 5 people with you. Eventually you will be able to repay the favor.

There's currently a display bug with the focus bar. You see that bar below your character portrait? That's your focus bar. It only starts showing your focus after you hit level 40. You can still earn focus, but it gives you no feedback that you're doing so until it's almost full, at which point you can use your focus skill.

As mentioned, you rarely get to max out your focus. I only see it frequently when botting.

Are any of the control schemes better to use than the others? I just went with tradional mmo style.

Despite what others mentioned, I love the action mode.

There are advantages and disadvantages to it, of course. There's no way to really make your target stick (disabling auto target doesn't do poo poo), so if you're fighting say, someone among several mobs, you have to use movement to make sure you don't use your single target skill on an unintended target.

Also, in 3D mode, you can set ground targeted skills like that big AoE attack that Splendors do to automatically be centered on your target. With action mode, you can try doing the same but it won't work. In PvP, particularly 1v1 PvP, the former can be useful for increasing the speed at which you pull certain combos off. However, in action mode, you have two advantages: ground targeted skills automatically follow your crosshair, so if you get used to it, you can target a skill before you even use it; And if you set a ground targeted skill as your right click, it will automatically go off where you're pointing on the first button press.

Another advantage of action mode is that a huge number of line targeted skills (i.e. a number charges and ranged attacks) are automatically targeted where you're aiming. Depending on your class and preferred setup, this can be a huge change.

By the way, in action mode, you can switch to 3D mode (minus auto-attack with the basic) by pressing ctrl. I don't use this much because the keys for my left/right click attacks are nearly unreachable, but it's an option. And in 3D mode, you can enable aiming (shift by default) to mimic action mode, but it feels very clunky to me.

The second set for Emei is mostly close range attacks where you strike people with claws and the like.

The Shaolin's Arhat Fist is the closest to that. And the third Wu-Tang set throws the sword away in favor of punching people, but it also features several ranged attacks and jedi powers.

That makes me feel even better about starting to work on my Shaolin alt tonight. I'm not really feeling Splendor. I mean, it works fine. Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt it's very good.

But through 8 levels of Shaolin so far, I find it much more fun despite only having one attack ability. It just feels more satisfying. I don't really mind the lack of damage since the exchange is being tanky as all gently caress.

Your damage and durability isn't really up to your school, but how you build your character. Yes, Shaolin and Wu-Tang have a heal and defense buff. Yes, they have higher base defensive stats (notably health) and lower offensive ones. The heals are loving awesome outside arena, yeah, but otherwise that stuff doesn't mean jack poo poo compared to your gear and your masteries.

If you gear/mastery defensively, then you're going to be difficult to kill regardless of what school you are. A Shaolin or Wu-Tang with pure offensive stats will poo poo out damage. Especially considering they both have some really good AoE attacks, which Harmony and Splendor both lack*.

After I got both my Harmony and Splendor to level 40, I noticed a drastic difference in their stats: the Splendor had close to 7,000 more HP than the Harmony, but 1500 less Exo-Attack and some huge amount of critical as well. This is purely because I rolled mostly defensive stats on my Splendor's level 30 set of gear, and also chose mostly defensive masteries as opposed to my Harmony's pure offensive setup.

* To be fair, potential AoE damage for both classes is very high. But most of those skills require significant setup due to small radius, small width, short range, being divided into multiple attacks, or a combination of the four.

So I'd like to clarify something. Harmony is one of the least played classes in the guild and it's believed that this is attributed to the perception that they are easily defeated by staying in the air. This couldn't be further from the truth.

Yes, the main acupuncture skill for Harmony (Harmony gets two acupuncture skills!) will indeed whiff if you try to use it against a mid-air target. However, keep in mind we're talking about a fully targeted, medium range, incredibly fast acupuncture skill. Also, Harmony gets a charge skill that will momentarily root your target, in addition to breaking their block; It will hit mid-air targets, and if you root them mid-air, the acupuncture will work against them. It's also fully targeted and has a very long range. Missing the acupuncture usually happens only against opponents who won't leave you time to charge (.55 seconds)... the charge, which is something you can control yourself.

Nevermind that skills that can be used in the air are few and far between. The Harmony's acupuncture skill's speed and ease of application means you can frequently take opportunities to interrupt an opponent mid-animation with it.

So now that's clarified, let's look at the other acupuncture skills in the game. Keep in mind that I haven't actually used most of these in PvP and I don't know if any classes other than Harmony get two acupuncture skills.

  • E'mei: A 'skill shot' charge. It's basically the Harmony acupuncture except you actually have to aim it, and thus it's much harder to hit, with the only advantage being that it can hit mid-air targets if they're close enough to the ground.
  • Wu-Tang: One of the better acupuncture skills, it's a large ranged ground targeted AoE. The drawback is that Wu-Tang are probably the class that can least capitalize from an acupunctured target.
  • Shaolin: It's melee. Difficult to hit against a skilled opponent, but Shaolin have one of the best setups for acupuncture. Getting one off will devastate your opponent.
  • Splendor: Also melee. Even worse range than Shaolin. Probably the most difficult to hit; in most videos I've seen, skilled Splendors will try to animation cancel one of their charges (which goes through enemies and applies 'attached' over multiple hits) into it. I can't do it with my latency, but in prolonged fights I usually manage to get an opportunity to get it off anyway. Once it works, if you can pull off a good combo, it's easily up there with the Shaolin setup.
  • Tong: It's a mine. Difficult to actually make people step on it, but its unique mechanic gives it a variety of applications.
  • Zephyr: I think it's melee and also difficult to hit, but someone will have to clarify me on this one.

I have no idea how the Infinity, 5 venoms and Sun and Moon acupuncture skills work. Nobody plays Infinity, I haven't fought a 5 venoms yet and whatever HyC was doing to absolutely destroy me with Sun and Moon, the acupuncture skill wasn't important.

Edit: Also, the Harmony's acupuncture skill counts as a grab, so it can't be countered (e.g. by a Wu-Tang or Infinity).

I play Infinity. It's kind of poo poo. The fire damage buff is fairly crap, the heal is prettty nice though. Once you get to level 40 you finally get a grab and some other nice stuff. If you count a skill that acupunctures as a counter, Infinity has two. Not that it matters because the pure acupuncture move isn't very good (short range, manually aimed) and the only time a player will hit your counter is in group pvp or if they're a complete retard.

Part of it may be that I suck.

Yeah, the Splendor acupuncture is also manually aimed*. At least with action mode. In 3D it tries to automatically aim for you, but in PvP that makes it worse because your character won't shift to aim at a dashing player (it's multiple hits), so it will frequently miss when you could have hit in action mode.

You wouldn't believe how short the range is. Think melee basic attack range, then cut that by half. You literally punch your target with it. It's awesome in PvE though, as Splendor has a great number of skills that capitalize on acupuncture, and again, when you get it off in PvP and perform a combo afterwards, you will gently caress up your opponent.

* I think most acupuncture skills are. Funnily, neither of the of the Harmony's acupuncture skills are manually aimed. But one of them is so slow it's almost unusable in PvP, and inefficient in PvE.

The events are fairly simple. I dove head first into them without knowing anything about them. Hell, I led my first bamboo group ever; I had no idea what it was about or what we were supposed to do, only that it gave good XP.

One thing you should keep in mind, though: Mirage spawns portals around the world. Vermin spawns portals in three school zones. These portals can be used by a group once. Your entire group needs to be there, in the same realm. So when you join a group for them, figure out which zone you're going to. For Vermin the group leader needs to be a member of that school. Once you or someone in your group finds a portal, make sure everyone gets there quickly. Since these events give unbound, they're constantly bum-rushed by bots who will keep closing the portals.

But yes, I will be around over the weekend and likely within your level range, so please do tag along.

Tactics/practice arena use normalized stats and offer a number of options for rules, so they're a great place to learn how to fight without feeling the differences of level or gear. Also, fight clubs are hilarious because we get to spectate every fight and laugh at every mistake.

Ok I have a lot more questions about this game.

Is there some list of what all the effects actually do? I know acupunctures immobilize people and I know they make other skills do more damage on an acupunctured target, but I don't know what keywords to look for for this. Flaw-exposed?

I also notice that if I grab someone and throw them and cast one of my line attacks (sword blast) while they are midair, the attack usually shows as dodged if it hits them while they are knocked down on the ground. What kind of attacks work well on knocked down opponents? Can I acupuncture them (it is hard to test using nodelock)? Is there a good place I can go to test the damage of moves? Mobs die too fast to be useful.

A lot of effects are improperly named. Some skills that say they should immobilize actually slow and so on. Acupuncture is a 'sap', it lasts longer than other forms of CC but breaks on damage. Usually skills that say "flaw-exposed" can take advantage of this (as is the case with Splendor), but otherwise I think anyone with a full dazing bar (red bar that shows up as you take damage) counts for that trigger.

Knocked down enemies are immune to most forms of CC for the entire effective knockdown duration. This is usually represented by "upward dodge" or "downward dodge". In PvP, I believe Nodelock does work against knocked down targets, but your other forms of CC don't.

The best way to test this stuff is to grab another goon and repeatedly fight each other.

Which is dumb, because it basically means Harmony doesn't have a way to deal with counter-ready status (unless you bring mirage, but once again, who the hell uses mirage).

Weird. The acupuncture certainly can't be blocked, I know that much.

aleksendr posted:

I decided to eliminate infinity from the running because "Dont hit me when i glow" is a nice concept for a final boss but not really feasible for a PVP heavy game.

This is a bullshit attitude. Countering has a mechanic in common with a highly important part of the PvP game. Do you know which? Yes, you guessed it: blocking. The only difference is which skills they are good against. If you can see someone's sword start to fall and block (which I can playing from Brazil), you can see someone's sword start to fall and counter.

Infinity's counters are no more "wait for the enemy to gently caress up" than harmony's reliance on hitting grounded targets. Yes, the enemy can exploit it. But if you can't pull it off, it's not because your opponent is too good.

Also, those videos on youtube, some of them show people that are miles better at this game than most of us. I've seen more than one Splendor who could pull off the double-canceled combo on demand, something that to me is so unbelievably hard I may as well be playing a fighting game (which I'm awful at). And you know what, even then, we see an Infinity capable of getting his counters off.

PassiveSentence posted:

Is choice of school a large factor for stats or is that determined more by levels and gear?

Is EXP gain from a mob constant or does it scale depending on player level?

A significant factor, but ultimately one you can easily overcome. Shaolin and Wu-Tang have a lot of HP but less attack. Harmony and Splendor have a lot of attack but less HP. You can basically shift the two positions based on how you gear and mastery.

Mastery is the big one since gear is somewhat randomized and you may end up with defensive or offensive stats when you don't want them, but masteries are a huge bonus the moment you unlock them (40) and keep getting better.

I'm not sure, but I believe for world mobs, XP is always the same, barring penalties for large level differences.

Applied as BongQuixote

I wanted to answer this earlier but forgot.

I personally believe it's not viable to do a pure punching build, especially in PvP. Expiation has several amazing attacks that are crucial to the Shaolin play style. Namely Staff Thrust, Typhoon, Tiger Stomp and Tiger Leap. Not all of them are necessary, mind you, but I can't imagine any Shaolin build that skips Expiation completely.

The other issue is how Arhat Fist is designed. It's mostly low cooldown attacks with weak secondary effects. A charge in Expiation knockdowns or roots, a charge in Arhat Fist just slows. Combined with the short (nothing likw Wu-Tang) animation in switching from staff to fist, most of these skills are probably not worth using in PvP. There's still some great PvP skills in the set, but not enough to make a staff-free custom set.

Arhat Fist is awesome in PvE, though. Low cooldown, powerful attacks, most of which come with a movement component (Shaolin has 8 charges!). It's insane how good my Shaolin is at botting with Arhat Fist; I do more damage than my Harmony or Splendor ever did (due to the aforementioned cooldowns) but have twice the defensive stats and a heal that restores a fourth of my health. You still want to use Typhoon and probably Tiger Stomp, but you will be mostly punching or kicking your way through mobs.

As a Harmony I get 26 HP per point of CON, so in terms of HP, the two stats (flat HP versus CON) are nearly the same. CON still has that Chi bonus, which granted isn't particularly useful, but still something.

Also, 1 STR = 8.3 Exo attack. With my Shaolin, this value is 7.6. And 1 STR = 2.25 critical. This value is under 1 for my Shaolin. Which explains why my Harmony has over twice as much critical, despite worse gear (but lots of STR).

2.5s cast, 3s cooldown.

Upgraded Infinity heal:

1.25s cast, 2.25s cooldown.

Those things are a lot better than I expected.

I agree the biggest benefit of the bot is not the xp but the mats and automatic item leveling up.

Gear is such a crucial part of this game and leveling your gear up is absolutely vital.

And trivial. That's the best part. Botting takes all the effort out of it, and if there's one thing bad about Chinese/Southeast Asian games, it's the effort required in upgrading your gear. Gems somewhat take that void but it's still nothing compared to what I'm used to.

Would anyone mind posting a guide to botting? I haven't checked it out yet, is it pretty self explanatory?

For the most part, yeah. You unlock the feature at 30 (school quest) and get 200 drive at 35. Every day, at 8 AM server time, you get another 200 drive. You can spend 10 cents (10 sycee) to buy another 100 drive, and it caps out at 600. 1 Drive = 1 minute of botting.

You can easily consume your daily world energy (100, also at 8 AM) with 200 drive, so the main reason to pay for more botting is to upgrade your gear or farm mats.

The self-cultivation window has four tabs:

  • General
    • Range: This is the maximum radius for where the bot will walk after mobs before coming back to the position where you started it. For most spots you don't want this to be too high or your bot will waste too much time running around, and may get stuck/jump off a cliff in defiance. In some spots you can set it to maximum and it will cover all mobs in the area and never waste time running back; I love those spots.
    • When to Stop Cultivation: I highly recommend changing the minutes window to a smaller value as you don't want to waste drive if your bot gets stuck or something.
    • Target Settings: I enable this at 1 minute so if the bot finds a stuck mob it won't waste time trying to attack it.
    • Collection Settings: Leave the first option checked and the last unchecked. Setup your companion to loot things as you would normally. The last option makes you loot things yourself which will only slow you down.
    • Loot Management: I've yet to get this option to work; I think it needs a companion with the 'sell' errand skill, though. Sundry items are normal items that have no value beyond bound money, so if you can get that to work, I recommend it.

  • Skills
    • This one's really simple. Just make a set with the skills you want to use while botting, then drag them down to the middle. Make sure you set a basic or the bot won't start. For attacks you can leave the timer at 0 so they're used on cooldown. If you have a heal, it's a good idea to set it at the bottom as healing yourself is far more efficient than using potions/food, so it will cut down on your bound/crafting costs. Make sure you set buffs to the correct timer or you will waste Chi.
    • Skills to avoid: You don't want too many charge-style skills in your bot's bar as they will often move you beyond the bot's radius and force you to walk back, wasting time. You also don't want skills that can be used when out of range in 3D/Traditional mode with "Locked Target" enabled (E'mei has a bunch of these), as your bot will use them without approaching the enemy. For charge-up skills, you want to make sure the bot isn't wasting time; Counters for instance are bad because the bot doesn't understand it needs to make the target attack you first, so don't check "cast charge skill" if you really want to use them.

  • Healing
    • Character Healing: This one's simple. Drag the items you want to use for healing/recovering chi over the box, and check the things below if you want to use them. Keep in mind that if you set your bot to buy items when it runs out, it won't switch to the other type (i.e. from food to potion or potion to food) before going back to buy more. To get around this I typically set the values above to be the same between the two types (e.g. use health potion/food at 50% HP) so the bot consumes both types of equally. Also, some enemies drop consumables and you may want the bot to prioritize them. And take a few minutes to craft consumables so you don't spend more bound than you need to.
    • Companion Healing: This uses the various types of companion consumables. You may want to check the loyalty one so your companion doesn't stop looting in case it dies, and the health one so it doesn't die in the first place.
    • Rest Settings: Leave stop at 0 world energy checked unless you're botting for items, and do whatever with the meditate option; The bot doesn't use stamina by default but meditating is inefficient and slows you down, so I leave it unchecked.
    • Durability: This only works if your companion has the fix skill; Not particularly useful unless you're botting for long periods of time. Just make sure you fix your poo poo before you start botting.

  • Gear Upgrade
    • Always check this, and pick which option you prefer. While botting, green gear will continually fill up your bag, so this is the best way to upgrade your equipped gear.

P.S.: Every time you change something in a tab, click "save". If you switch tabs, the previous one will lose all unsaved changes. And remember: while there's not many things normal mobs can drop, their drops aren't normalized. Some will drop food/potions when others won't, some have better gear drop rates, and so on. You may want to experiment to find the best spot based on your level, school, competition and current needs.

I like the combat in this game a lot more than Wushu. It's much harder and I miss goosestep, but once you get used to taking advantage of invulnerability frames, jump dashing on a moment's notice and knowing when to dash immediately following a block (e.g. against Harmony or 5 Venoms), it feels just as mobile and far deeper.

I miss script stealing and assassination missions as well as the school stuff, but I don't miss stagecoach rides, having to serve out jail time without the option of logging out, the stupid as gently caress dungeons, and the highly important events being held only at a specific time of the day.

@Ihki: I was reading about gems in the Chinese websites. It's not really P2W so much as 'one dude is going to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get something a few weeks faster than everyone else'; They don't sell anything better than what we currently have in the cash shop. Higher level gems are more readily available and if you sell your unused gems and buy the ones you need (or just trade them), level 5/6 gems aren't that difficult to get.

Giving this botting thing a try. Anyone have a good skill set for e'mei? What I'm using doesn't seem to efficient. I'm lvl 46 atm.

I just use a bunch of ranged attacks, the big heal set at 50%, plus Heart Hunt and Force Lift. The latter is just personal preference as I tried a few other skills and found them to be ineffective, so I just added something to occasionally reduce the damage I take.

Melee skills work fine too, but I like ranged attacks to reduce how much time my bot spends running back after going out of range. Don't use Stone Crush, Solar Focus, Chi Pulse and Solar Eruption. They're great for killing packs but the bot doesn't know how to use them. Heat Burst isn't bad if you want some PBAoE, though.

According to PW, we're only one major patch behind the Chinese/Taiwanese version, so unless the latest big patch added more gems to the cash shop and I'm reading outdated information, I don't think it's a source of concern. And as you said, the game has been out for a while and the cash shop hasn't changed much since then; They just kept adding more cosmetics/social stuff from what I could tell.

So, reading Chinese forums/guides, I was able to determine how elemental (Fire, Ice, Poison, Earth) damage works.

It's a simple coefficient, unique to each skill, and non-matching elemental damage is not wasted. As a Harmony, all my skills count as poison. Each point of Ice/Fire/Earth damage adds 1 * [coefficient] damage to all of my attacks, independent of skill or character level. Each point of Poison damage adds 1.5 * [coefficient] damage to all my attacks.

Or in other words, your primary elemental type is 50% more effective than the others, but you still get a damage bonus regardless.

Resistance acts as a multiplier to that bonus damage. So 20% resistance will reduce the bonus damage from that element by 20%, but if I have 7% penetration, that reduction drops to 13%.

I couldn't find out what proficiency does. I also couldn't figure out the purpose of secondary elements. My guess for the latter is that some skills count as your secondary and benefit from that damage type more than your primary; so with Sun and Moon some skills gain 50% more damage from Poison than from Fire, but the majority gain 50% more damage from Fire than from Poison.

A different post mentioned how Critical and Evasion work against each other:

The minimum critical chance is 25% and maximum is 75%. You can't go below or above these values no matter how much Critical or Evasion you or your target have. To reach 75% crit chance, your Critical must be equal or higher than the target's Evasion. To reach 25% crit chance, Evasion must be 2.5 times higher than the attacker's Critical.

From looking at screenshots, higher level people try to get just enough Reflex that PvP crit chance against them is 25% or slightly above, with the exception being Harmonies who aren't worth stacking Evasion against due to their much higher Critical. Otherwise Strength/Willpower, Constitution and Tenacity are all prioritized over Reflex.

Another post recommended that for Harmony damage, the stats (gear-wise) prioritized should be STR over Poison Damage over Exo Attack. And this makes Harmony (and I'm guessing 5 Venoms?) much cheaper to gear up than other schools because you can just put poison damage gems on all of your gear and be almost as effective as someone stacking the much more expensive STR gems, while Ice/Fire damage schools don't have the luxury of cheap elemental damage gems.

Apparently unlike Wushu Hua this is an equalized tournament as well...meaning you can't pay2win. So there's that.

It's the same rules as tactics/practice so people who are level 60/80 will have the advantage of one/two extra slots over those who aren't. But yeah, beyond that, everyone is on equal footing and the best player wins. So don't expect people like Clare, who are only in the tournament because they poopsocked to be at the top in levels, to actually put up a decent fight.

I saw some guy selling 6 of the outfit for 5g each. Some other guy had 12 of the hat for 3g each. Within like 30 minutes of the servers going up, someone sold the outfit for 8g in world chat. Didn't see anybody selling or using the mount at all.

Or in other words, if you want the hat or outfit, just loving buy it. At worst you will spend like 15g for the outfit which is 500-700 sycee. The mount is a different matter entirely.

Also, the companion errand skills are not available in the cash shop (mailbox, stash, fix) and the market is flooded with them, so they're cheap as gently caress. I bought a stash guide for 75 silver and the same dude had at least 10 fixing guides for the same price. The highest I've seen them sell for is 2g which is pocket change for something that would otherwise cost 400 sycee.

What I do care about are the skill scrolls. I'm pretty close to upgrading two of my skills, and those upgrades in particular are pretty much necessary for Harmony to be truly viable in arenas.

So yeah, hit me up on mumble before you start. With some luck we'll find a Splendor to speed things up.

Third? I consider Vermin/Mirage their own type, but even ignoring that, you're forgetting The Way of the Dragon.

Either way, between between Vermin for KFP pills, Bamboo, The Way of the Dragon, A World Without Thieves, guild events, kidnapping, hijacks, bonus quests, blade rain gang, arena dailies, harmonious world, instances, botting and eventually matched arena along with plenty of things I'm surely forgetting, there's an overwhelming amount of things to do in this game to the point where it's nearly impossible to fit it all in a day. Which is why the only things I try to not skip are thieves and arena dailies.

Don't bet on HyC. He stopped playing Sun and Moon and is rusty as a result. Hell, Reithien vs HiC was a nearly guaranteed win for the former when the latter was still actively doing arenas with his S&M, and in the event that HyC made it to the semi-finals, he would likely have to face Reithien again.

HyC and I have bet on Reithien and I will be surprised if he isn't in the semi-final, possibly against YouLose if he actually plays.

Also, I've fought about half of the people listed and I have to say, anybody who bets on Clare, Rainz, Rot or Icicle is out of their loving mind.

Oh, there's a bunch of guild events. They're divided into three categories, but there are plenty of events that most of us have never seen; I think we just do the best ones that aren't bugged, hence the lack of variety.

So I was bored and did some math to figure out relative gear strength. I used Hero's Order gear (level 60) as baseline and compared it to legendary, crafted (7-star) and set gear.

It's really hard to figure out the practical strength of each tier due to a number of reasons:

  • Hero's Order (4-Star) gear can have 1-3 bonus stats, but usually has 2.
  • Hero's Order gear is much easier to get perfect rolls on, due to the cheap cost of each token.
  • Legendary (6-Star) gear can have up to 5 bonus stats, but usually has 4.
  • Crafted 7-Star gear can have up to 6 bonus stats, but usually has 5.
  • Set gear (5-Star) gives bonuses towards all attributes, as well as crit and attack, so I had to assign estimated (read: from personal opinion) weights to each stat instead of simply calculating based on perfectly rolled gear. Also, only 1-2 bonus stats.

The stat scaling is simple: at a weight of 1 for 4-Star gear, 5-Star is 1.33, 6-Star is 1.65 and 7-Star is 2. So if a piece of Hero's Order gear gives 51 CON, it will give 68 CON at 5-Star, 84 CON at 6-Star and 102 CON at 7-Star.

NOTE: The values for 7-Star are estimated, as I couldn't find any gear of that type.

Based on stat weights given for Harmony, ignoring base stats and willpower, these are my conclusions:

  • The bonuses from a complete set (8) give sets roughly 125% better bonus stats than Hero's Order gear. This gap is much smaller at 2 set pieces, but not significantly so at 4/6 set pieces. This is based on each piece of set gear having STR and TEN/CON as its two bonus (green) stats, compared to STR, TEN and CON for Hero's Order gear.
  • Legendary gear equals about 155% better bonus stats than Hero's Order gear. This is based on each piece of Legendary gear having STR, TEN, CON, Elemental damage and Attack as its bonus stats; Needless to say, this is virtually impossible and even harder to obtain than perfect set gear.
  • Crafted 7-Star gear gives roughly 254% better bonus stats than Hero's Order gear. This is based on each piece of crafted 7-star gear having STR, TEN, CON, Elemental damage, Attack and Critical as its bonus stats; You will never see this.

Disclaimer: As pointed out, the estimates above are based entirely on bonus stats. Not only is perfect gear immensely unlikely for any person to acquire, 'basic' stats play a huge role in closing the gap between gear tiers, and its values are based only on level and ignore quality. The more you upgrade your gear, the weaker set/legendary/crafted gear becomes relative to hero's order gear. I'd estimate set gear to be realistically 50% better than hero's order gear, with legendary gear being ranked slightly lower as bad rolls take a bigger toll on it.

The stat weights I used are: STR (1), CON/TEN (.6), Poison Damage (.7), Critical (.5 / 2.24), Exo-Attack (.5 / 8.25), Reflex (.3). Willpower was ignored. Do note that Harmony as a whole puts a big emphasis on STR; Schools that benefit more from defensive or secondary stats are going to find set gear to be a bit better.

Hmm interesting. Any rationale on why Splendors are so weak? I know currently in TW it seems the Wutang and Shaolin are running rampart in tournaments, mostly due to their tankiness and insta self heals.

I mentioned this to treizebee when he questioned my vote for a Splendor: in the last tournament, the two 'best' Splendors were put up against each other in the first round, so one was immediately eliminated. The other one still made it to the quarter finals.

The tournaments that happened prior to our current patch, which introduced a minor Splendor nerf among changes to most schools, pretty much always had a Splendor coming up in the quarter finals, frequently semi-finals and finals.

I think their presence in tournaments is simply a question of popularity. More experienced players will eventually realize that Harmony and Splendor have severe drawbacks in PvE, and that both schools tend to be more difficult to do well with in arenas for the average player, and thus other schools will start to become a greater presence in tournaments. In the Chinese servers, Wu-Tang and Shaolin are quite popular and they tend to take up a good portion of the 32 spots in the Jianghu Games. That doesn't mean the other schools are bad, but when 24 of the 32 spots are randomly seeded, the less popular schools aren't going to be well represented.

Also, I've read quite a bit about both Splendor and Harmony in the Chinese boards/guides and there's rarely any complaints about Splendor's performance in arena. Harmony isn't so lucky.
