For some reason, I was really hoping for a Clams Casino produced track, but I'll definitely settle for FlyLo. I'm only on How Much A Dollar Cost so far, but I'm kinda blown away. GKMC took a few listens for some reason for me to warm up to it, but then it became one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time. TPAB already has me hooked, though. Then again, I am stupidly gay for K-Dot, so... I'm loving the jazzy feeling of the album though. It blows me away how different each of his studio albums sounds (starting from Section.80, not including Overly Dedicated), but the fucker makes it work, and work well. EDIT: Huh, that's a new touch for The Blacker the Berry

Dexo posted:This album seems way more like him trying to process his fame and rap/spoken word through his own personal depression and personal thoughts. This is the vibe I'm getting as well. I need to give the album a few more listens but, generally, this. Him repeating the "found myself screaming in a hotel room" bit throughout the songs kinda hit home for me. I like how it further expands in each subsequent song as well. It's smooth as gently caress beatwise as well, but not quite the same as Section.80 or OD. I'm sorry but, any overly scathing hatred for the album is clearly hipster drivel, or trolling. It might not flow as well as GKMC, it might not even be as good as GKMC, but it's not a bad album by any means. I say "might" cause, again, I need to give the album a few more listens. But it doesn't deserve pure hatred. EDIT: Also this: Critics want to mention that they miss when hip hop was rappin’ Motherfucker if you did, then Killer Mike'd be platinum pliable fucked around with this message at 23:34 on Mar 16, 2015 |

Goons are loving dumb brodawg. I love goons, but we're all a bunch of dumbfucks. The cutest ones are those who think they are superior somehow though, and I tend to read that poo poo and just laugh and remind myself that they're going to be dead and irrelevant as gently caress in less than 100 years. My final verdict regarding TPAB: it's another brilliant winner. The same thing with GKMC happened with this album; it snuck up on me and its genius felt like an epiphany. The way I normally approach hip-hop is I go for the beats first, then lyrics (which is kinda backwards for hip-hop, I know). I found that with good music usually comes good lyrics. But TPAB and GKMC might have to change the way I view and analyze hip-hop. I always said "music first" but, GKMC and TPAB made me realize that the lyrics can complement the music quite well. I wasn't captivated by the music at first; it seemed dull, dry, kind of off putting (even though I love jazz). I'm very glad I kept pushing though (and I only pushed because I did the same with GKMC), because I'm in love with the music now. Mortal Man, King Kunta, Blacker the Berry, Momma, Hood Politics, How Much A Dollar Cost...gently caress, every song has loving great production for the lyrics. I remember reading some goons saying that they felt the album felt "unfocused", and while they appreciated the effort, they don't think they'd give it another listen. I highly suggest you keep pushing with it. This album is my second favorite, right after GKMC and above Section 80.

Craptacular! posted:The problem is even if you don't already like Drake, his songs are loving "drop it like it's hot" style booty music that makes the matter feel less serious. Saying one of Kendrick's sons isn't actually his in a worldwide music release means you're causing kids to eventually ask their mom if one of them has another dad; you should treat it with the seriousness it deserves and not "uh uhhh, your baby moms a hoe, shake it shake it shake it real slow" style TikTok dance bullshit. On top of which, you're calling him a domestic abuser seems less serious when you're practically calling her a hoe minutes earlier. His whole track has this sneering "see, you're the hypocrite and therefore I win" bullshit that values 'the game'; like his status as a winner is the more important part of the picture and the lives being impacted are just background filler. Honestly, the music video for it is pretty loving cringey too. Half the music video is the filming of a gkmc like Dodge Caravan being towed to a junkyard and then being crushed. Like whoa Drake what a crazy deep metaphor crushing Kendrick whoaaaaa pliable fucked around with this message at 10:35 on May 5, 2024 |

I just realized that Kendrick doesn't even need to put out another diss track responding to The Heart Part 6.
