Unless it breaks an app you use reeeally often there's no downside.

ErIog posted:Holy hell. When I bought my Nexus 5 2 years ago it was reasonably priced, but for some reason Google has decided to price gouge the Japanese market for the 5x. Google wants $500 for the 16GB model direct from them and Softbank wants $600 for that same phone. 16gb 5x will be 479€ ($542.63 vs $$379) here. I paid 400€ for my 32gb nexus 5 back then. But hey, you say, the dollar / euro exchange rate was higher back then. Yeah but it was still 'only' ~ $547 (vs $400 in the US) . And the 32gb will apparently be 529€ ($599.36 vs $429). Then again, I paid 539€ ($729.10 at the time) for a 16gb Gnex back in the day. So yeah, I'm probably going to order one anyway (once I can order one, ), though probably only a 16gb one.

While the 5X seems to be available on the other side of the pond now, I'm playing with the idea of letting a friend import me one when she's in California next year. Would I still be able to RMA it with Google here or would I have to send it back to the US ?

The girlfriend has a problem with her nexus 5. Sometimes (though basically every time she uses the camera) the phone will just turn off. When rebooted it shows 3% battery when before it was at like 70%. The battery will then sometimes slightly recover without charging. This might have been happening before marshmallow though we're not sure. We already flashed a fresh marshmallow image and it didn't go away so I'm guessing it's the battery itself. Here's a picture from when it happened on Tuesday. Notice that the phone wasn't charging when it regains battery.

LastInLine posted:Replacing the battery seems like a no-brainer but I have to wonder if you're still having the same issue with the phone rebooting every time the camera is used even after reflashing the stock image? If so it might be time for a new device. Yeah basically. We bought it used on ebay, updated it from 5.1.1 to 6 when the OTA came and already tried flashing the marshmallow stock image. Are there any recommendations for a special vendor/supplier we should buy from? Or should we just buy one of the OEM batteries on amazon and hope it doesn't explode

MarsellusWallace posted:Who's brilliant idea was it to claim that hitting your phone against your desk fixes things? Well the thread title only applies to the Nexus 5 and its power button related boot loop. (I have to admit it worked for me, as sad as that is.) And while I'm on it, update on the Nexus 5 battery: The new battery seems to be genuine OEM and works great, battery life seems to be much better too so that's a plus. Opening the phone was a bitch but everything else was pretty easy. Compared to the new battery, the old battery seems a bit bloated (which probably explains the problems). I'm glad we replaced it before it had the chance to burn the place down.

And then there's the Chinese fake sd cards, the ones that report as 32gb of storage but actually have 8 or 4. Everything you write beyond actual capacity isn't actually written at all. But they're cheaper on amazon!!!

So, someone wrote a few pages ago that the Pixel definitely wasn't a A9 because some parts are different. And I guess they were technically correct (the best kind of correct). However they probably still took over an HTC phone, just an unfinished one.
