The only silver colour I have is Vallejo Metal Grey which I think might be too dark?

Could I mix some white with it or will that ruin the metallicyness???

Finding it harder to get a worn looking silver statue effect

Washes arent really showing up, and I seem to end up with either really bright shiny silver or dark gunmetal

Those two were boltgun metal spray, with the lightest metal I got dry brushed on top

Was thinking maybe spraying black and dry brushing metal might look better?

I'm a modeller, not a list builder, so the fact that people are unimpressed by the display boards is mind-boggling to me. I do wonder if most of these comments about the dioramas come from players who refuse to play against unpainted armies.

The dioramas are pretty cool IMO

Im 'ughing' at the 'would pay to get in to see them'

In sculpting news; I am about to try and sculpt a reverse mermaid, and possibly a scrunt.

It is a soft makeup brush for ladies

Dont ever buy spray primer from a diy shop. Thats the poo poo people spray on fence panels and you'll ruin models with that stuff. You just want a decent can of flat black/grey non alcoholic paint.

Halfords sprays are really good

I used their grey surface primer (73601) and brushed it on neat with no problems

Does anyone have any tips for making your own DIY texture paints? Like the mud stuff GW sells?

I figure I have paint, sand and pva glue; I could probably just mix it up myself right???

Moola
Aug 16, 2006
Actually do I even need to add the paint?

I'm just gonna be priming on top of it anyway...

Are you doing bases or terrain? If terrain I'd say add paint to the mix, makes life easier. For bases it doesn't matter so much.

Edit - ^^^ or do what the other guy said and use pumice paste.

I don't want to buy anything, so im gonna try pva and sand

I mixed pva glue, flour and brown paint

yeah I think black rim is the solution. These still look tasty as gently caress. Mottle the color a little bit maybe to make it less consistent?

otherwise I really like it.

I'm probably gonna drybrush a lighter colour to create the effect of the raised mud drying, while the lower mud is still wet from puddles etc

Also some patches of grass etc

OneTrueBru posted:

Another option to break up future bases might be adding the odd puddle.

Cut a small hole through the base, glue a bit of plasticard underneath and smooth the edges with greenstuff, then paint it as normal. Once the base is finished, come back and fill the recess with some appropriately-tinted gloss varnish or water effects goop. It'll add some irregularity to the surface and hopefully make things look a bit less delicious.

Defeinitely gonna try this on my next base!

Meanwhile I browned the rocks and now it looks like chocolate cake

I really want a brownie now

I have removed some of the large rocks, which have created indentations which I have gently filled with a little pva glue

I'm hoping when the glue dries it will look like puddles of water

What colour should I paint the large rocks? Black/slate???
