Regarding base building, do you unlock more walls and doors and furniture and poo poo as the game progresses or do they give you everything at the start? I would like to unlock a wall with a window.

Companions in this game are hot garbage. They actually have worse AI than 3. Why yes, feel free to stand there in the middle of the room doing nothing during this fight. Turn your back to the guy shooting you and stare at me instead. Cool, thanks for running up to the enemies and then leading them back to me when I'm trying to sneak. Nice, you just stand between the person I'm talking to and I in the cutscene. That's helpful.
