Goldskull posted:In High School there was a kid called Sandy about 5 years older than me who had 2 fingers on one hand. He'd left/graduated by the time I found out why in Science Club from the teacher that took that. He thought it was a good idea to make a firework/rocket out of a copper tube at home knowing what he knew from Chemistry class, and stealing the ingredients. Having hammered one end closed, then filling it with what amounts to gunpowder, he then hammered the other end closed I am truly surprised I still have all my fingers and eyes after reading Jolly Rogers Cookbook. A lot of the stuff in it was above my comprehension at the time so I improvised. I wanted to make detonators for whatever reason so I got Ramset charges from my uncles work shed (Ramset charges are from those gun things used to punch holes in concrete - look like blanks). I then stole a long spool of magnesium strips. I then got the pliers out and peeled the charges open and stuffed some magnesium stripping into it, then recrimped the charge closed with pliers again. Then I lit it in the laundry. I immediately panicked and in the rush to get out I locked the screen door so ran back to the charge and threw it into a camping pot. The lid went through the ceiling and I was in a lot of trouble.

A class in my school decided for senior prank that it would be a good idea to dress their younger brother up in the uniform of the local girls college, and then have 'her' wait after school at the pickup area. Then 4 seniors in balaclavas drove up and kidnapped her. It was a loving huge shitfight with the police and media trying to figure out who the kidnappers were and who the victim actually was.

Subjunctive posted:That's not quite right as a description of short selling (you borrow shares and then have to return them at an agreed time, you're not racing the close of the sale or whatever), but short-position investment is very fertile schafenfreude terrain. There aren't a lot of investment vehicles where the upside is mathematically limited and the downside unlimited. Many years ago when I was working for a nightclub, the owner would pay me $10 an hour and free booze and food all day to 'lay the favourite' on every horse race running in Australia. Which means he bets $100 that the favourite horse will not win, if it wins he loses that $100 and an additional $100. If he wins he gets his $100 back and another $100. Holy crap he made some money, each day the same thing, a few turbulent hours then gravy train. UNTIL his business partner arrived who was more of a gambling addict and would assure my boss of 'sure thing bets' and all profits would be gone. HAHAHA I laughed so hard everytime he arrived cos I knew the poo poo was gonna hit the fan. Those were some shonky people. They offered me a one time job as a Bookies clerk at the races. I didn't know the bookie beforehand and he was flown in from interstate. Turns out he was printing bets after the fact and the timestamp on the receipts were before the race (he changed the clock on his computer) and used that as 'evidence' to show the jockey club that he didn't make as much money as he really did, and didn't have to pay a bigger share of profits to the club. One of them was also an ex-PA for Hugh Hefner which in my young 20 something year old eyes was like a god.

A page or 2 ago there was the GIF of the trailer detaching and causing an incident. I had a similar experience a few years ago: Parked my car on a slight incline near a friends house, proceeded to crack open a beer and watch 'some rear end in a top hat' reversing down the hill slowly. That was my car. A few seconds after laughing at it and seeing the licence plate I managed to run in my flipflops down a wet garden, carefully put my beer on the curb without breaking stride, fiddle with my keyless entry and get into the car. It was maybe a foot or two from a fence. Humphreys has a new favorite as of 08:48 on Apr 14, 2016 |

Control Volume posted:lol, I once got locked in a BMW when I was growing up because I decided to chill in the car while my parents went to a gift shop somewhere to pick something up quick, which turned into an hour long chat with the loving cashier. Tried to get out after half an hour due to boredom and the car thought it was being burgled and kept the doors from opening and started blaring the alarm. They ignored the car alarm going off for like half an hour while the doors refused to open and I was looking around for things to smash the window open because it was getting too hot when they finally came out going "oh that was the car alarm we were so annoyed with the entire time we were talking!" HAHA. Reminds me of the time I convinced my parents to leave me at a part of a casino that had Sega Rally. They gave me a shitload of coins and let me go free while they were touring the building for business. It ended up being a fun conversation between them and the police.
