It is just the marketers' revenge for the American family steadfastly refusing to let Thanksgiving be turned into a gift giving holiday.

As if that wasn't enough, he's basically saying "No, I won't drop the price on the drugs that are exclusive to us, but we will setup a patient assistance program (loan program) to purchase said drugs.

I really REALLY hope the FDA revokes his patent.

He doesn't have a patent. The drug is generic just nobody else bothered to go through the approval process to make it because the return just wasn't there for a specialty drug at $14 a pill. Even at the current $750 per other companies probably still won't try to get approval both because Mr Douchebro changed the distribution so it is harder to get the drug to do bioequivalence testing (which is one of the reasons he is under investigation) and because he can wait for them to do all the work and then crater the price to drive them out of the market.

Fun little side note since you brought up patents: pharmaceutical companies area freaking out at the moment because hedge funds have started doing a rather nasty thing to make money at their expense. The hedge funds short the stock and then file challenges to critical patents the company has using a newly instituted review process at the Patent Office. The stock dips and they make money, and stand to make even more if the patent gets invalidated because some pharmaceutical companies basically only exist due to one or two drugs.

But the pharmaceutical industry has largely hosed itself by being greedy and burning any political capital in favor of stuff like tax inversions and sky high near-term returns.

Things are starting to get a bit more tense between Texas' Health & Human Services Commission and the non-profit sector. Last week, HHS started requesting assurances from various non-profits that they won't be serving Syrians and threatening lawsuits and funding blocks if they do.

In one specific instance, HHS sent a letter to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) demanding assurances by Monday, 11/30, that they were going to comply with Abbott's orders. Austin has responded to the treats by dismissing a resolution to stand with Abbott on the issue and publicly announcing that it will accept all refugees.

I'm really curious to know what the federal response would be if Abbott actually starts following through on his threats.

At this point I would be shocked if the ACLU didn't step in with a lawsuit first.

In this speech for example he said "It just blows my mind that the president of the United States [says] that the answer to circumstances like that is more gun control”. Now unless the IRS is operating on a looser version of the Senate's "my friend from [state] is an idiot" style technicalities or that Obama is somehow no longer considered a candidate under IRS rules that seems pretty blatant.

I never said the data he stole was, but the value of the database as a whole is what dictates the security applied. A better analogy might be someone at a high stakes table at a casino reaching over and taking their neighbor's chips when a drink is spilled and not expecting security to see it when they replay the tapes. There's simply no way that a person reasonably competent in IT would not have known that a security bug in a new patch was certainly going to trigger a log check to see if anyone took advantage of it.

People defending a flat tax aren't going to care if it fucks the poor.

The best strategy is to appeal to the demand for "fairness" that the flat tax is supposed to address. The rich businessman depends significantly more on the government and public infrastructure to make their money than Joe Somebody. If the court system were closed starting tomorrow most working class people would never notice but Wall Street would poo poo itself due to losing the ability to enforce contracts. If the US Navy were to be mothballed the resulting uptick in Somalia-style piracy wouldn't be a worry for us but the Waltons would have a real bad time.
