One thing I really hate about Neversink's while levelling is that it thinks links trump base type, so it will highlight even a normal quality simple robe in merc act 3 if it happens to be a 3 or 4 link.

If you are going fast and not killing everything, etc, it can be hard to find 4L's that you want with correct colors...and it might very well be worth slamming some alts or an alch to try for a high life roll on a lesser base with good colors/links. It's especially helpful in situations where you get a sick drop but you can't use it because you are very limited on 4links with proper colors.

Liking neversinks or not is personal preference for sure, but on day1 links/colors are very important, even in merciless..

MFW I spend 2 hours figuring out path of building and finally get my whole build together and have custom gear and everything and then manage to BSOD for the first time in literal years before I finish and save it.

http://pastebin.com/Y9QDj8G1

Easy 10 million dps (5 mil vs "bosses") w/ conc effect. Who knows if this program is being accurate here or not, but either way the scourge+double dip is extremely overkill. Only expensive item required is The scourge, but if I want to switch over before I get that, I could just run a singularity and look super cool. Hell, I can just drop my shield and use both! Will be starting flameblast totems, maybe even as an elementalist, though totems with necro isn't too bad since you get some generic damage and lots of cast speed. Maybe will rework this poo poo and go lowlife/ci at some point and farm endgame bosses if I can be bothered.

Obviously my rolls on my gear won't be quite this good, but it's still just a bunch of rares for the most part. It's gonna be plenty enough. And I have really nothing else to invest it besides rares after I get my Scourge and Cherrubim's (or whatever other armor I decide to try). 2x gryphons on swap still leaves me with 3.8mil vs trash somehow?

Other potential setups: I could use cospri's will, I would lose a very small amount of dps (rapid decay does ALOT for me) and lose 300 hp, and gain either a ring slot or, more likely, adding enfeeble to my cwdt setup instead of inc duration. Probably will choose which of these I do based on the economy, I dunno if that other armor will become more expensive than cospri's somehow. Hell, I'll probably just stay in a tabula until I can 6L one of those!

Newbie question: Whats the best way to find gear while levelling? Should I go for white items that have the right colors & links and upgrade them? just YOLO it and not wear gear until merciless?

The amount of randonmess in this game is pretty crazy - you have to find an item that your character can use, AND it needs the right stats, AND it needs the right number of sockets, AND it needs the right links AND it needs the right colors.

There will be alot of hand-me-downs in the guild stash as day 1-2 progress.

Knowing how to play well (not tanking more than you need to, flask management, etc) and using a strong leveling skill (not going viper strike melee splash, etc) will carry you 95% of the way to merciless dried lakes. Until then, You might want to yolo alch, trans+aug, or maybe even use a few alts on an item with ideal socket setup - on day one it's much more likely that you can afford to alt 4L with good colors in hopes of a strong life roll than it is you can afford to jewel+fuse+chrome an item that already has good rolls.

As stated, once you are at merci lakes, gearing become alot more reasonable. An abundance of both currency and bases dropping give you more options to buy or craft in whatever way you feel like.

spirit eater yes, but also the 'mistress of sacrifice' node is important here - it lets your offerings effect you.
I was considering running both cwdt desecrate spirit offering, for sustained DPS (%phys as chaos buff), but also flesh offering manual cast, to speed up clearing normal mobs as I move pack to pack and have to refresh my BV.

A double edged sword here is that offerings are really cool and powerful and a fun little thing to play around with - you could also use bone offering to get some defenses instead. However, you can only use one, and you are also eating up gem sockets by using them, so the more flexible you want to be, the less other stuff you can do.

Yes, I mean switch over from totem league starter build. Honestly you can go any weapon. With a necromancer your endgame would ideally be the scourge+lowlife/CI. Honestly it's not even remotely needed for BV to be playable though. Just get any half decent spell damage/global damage weapon and you are good 2 go...a rare, singularity is usually hella cheap, obliteration is strong as always, or just whatever.

3. Is 4k life 4k es 1k mana enough. Im not expecting to kill shaper, just t12 maps or so.

Im zombies/srs btw running clarity and AA and prob HoI.
Kthx

First off HoI doesn't effect summons.

If you are a summoner ghost reaver is pointless, you aren't doing any leech. EB is up to you, but that's going to put you out of balance by alot.
If you have 200 mana and you take 1000 dmg that means you take 800 from the pool on the left and 200 from the pool on the right.
That's probably fine for maps. I wouldn't take MoM either way for you currently. 4k lifepool means you need about 1.7k manapool to maximize MoM reductions: if you swap to EB you are way overboard on your mana pool (4k/4.2k vs ideal of 4k/1.7k) and if you stay hybrid, then using MoM does almost nothing for you (8k/.2k vs ideal of 8k/3.4k).

just my two cents.

First off, to clarify, the real issue at hand: Saying "sell jewelers and chromes in town" and saying "sell (items for) jewelers and chromes in town" mean two totally different things. That being said,

peak debt posted:

When I look at prices for boss key sets, and the kind of drops you can expect from them, I don't see those guys being very profitable.
As in, an Uber Atziri or Shaper set currently costs almost an ex. And while those guys do drop items that are worth more, they can also drop a lot of poo poo and eyeballing the general value of drops doesn't look like it'd be significantly over an ex.

So am I right in assuming that trying to kill those bosses is p much pointless and farming high level maps with high killspeed for those random currency drops is way more profitable?

Edit: Don't sell Jewelers. Convert them to Fusings using a level 6 Vorici and sell those, that's like 40% more value.

I'm really curious as to what your general gameplay looks like when you think you need to hardcap your jewelers you are willing to sell per day to the vorici daily jeweler/fusing exchange, and are also trying to debate the merits of farming shaper vs high level map speed clearing.

Edit: I'll make this point simple: 40% more value of jack poo poo is really just 40% more jack poo poo, or in the grand scheme of things, meaningless. Vorici exchange is cute and certainly not bad in itself, but caring about it is kinda a waste of time. If you want to do what is best, then vorici currency exchange has almost 0 weight in the conversation. If you want to do what feels good, then that is entirely subjective and up to the individual.

It's like when you go to a store and you buy something with a big 'for sale' tag or some poo poo and think you are getting away with a deal, when in reality it's just a scam to make you feel good about yourself even though you are still being a shitter with your money. Grats, you :airquote:saved:airquote: 16 jeweler orbs, and you are still poo poo poor because you have no idea how to actually make anything in the first place and are too busy swooning over vorici the shady salesman to care.

Regardless, if you are actually interested in how some of the super rich get super rich, I think Fyndel and VoC were on some poe podcast recently and are much more likely to give you informed views on getting rich in poe than a bunch of poor shitnoob goons like me. I killed Shaper with Windripper TShot. 2 deaths to those moments at the end of a bullet hell phase where he starts a laser/yellow balls and I move to dodge those but get hit by stray bullets left over from the bullet hell. First one was a clean oneshot from 6200 life, second one I went down to like 100 life and was really close to a vortex bubble so when that popped the minor initial hit damage it does got me. I think this is really stupid for what GGG wants out of life build vs ES build balance. Granted, I'm still abusing instant leech from Atziri's Acuity so I'm somewhere at the in between point of why the balance is hosed up for life builds and ES builds. Also I'm totally ready to admit touching a stray bullet at the end of the bullet hell phase is justifiably punishable by instant death, considering it's the final boss of the game and it gives you time to assess where all the bullets are going and how to not walk into them.

Damage was good, I think I actually outdamage my CI Doomfletch build because of Wise Oak being really sick with almost pure lightning damage.

IS this wise oak on ripper vs wise oak on doomfletch comparison though? Obviously it's great for any pen but it seems especially suited to doomfletch which gets that insane damage but harder time getting good pen for all of it.

What kinda flask setup do you use for shaper? Do you have to sacrifice one for the other though? I haven't bothered with him yet and rarely play CI to boot. Can you minmax your resists so you get full wise oak effect, go the surgeon build for bleed removal and run kiara's + oak + sun/vinktar/taste?

The tri-pen possibility with doomfletch seemed like the most obvious thing to try to abuse with the wise oak but I haven't played a doomfletch build so I haven't really tried to theorycraft why it would or wouldn't be worth it...am curious about it though.

Obviously getting equal base resists is hard, but seems like a doable thing considering master crafting. Just get close and make sure you can spam your 20-30 resist (or 12-14 to two resist) mods on a couple of gear slots until you can equalize. Jewels give you some give and take too. Maybe not easy as a day 1 plan, but seems achievable once the market fills out a bit. I would dread trying to get it to work with just some of the resist flasks, but if you are using ALL of them, there is no issue, right? And ToH will be up more than vinktars but also supplying alot of damage on it's own so even if vinktars runs out a bit early you still get bonus penetration on a element with relevant flask effect boosted damage. And pathfinder makes perma uptime not quite so impossible - I know they nerfed master surgeon, but then slightly buffed it again, can you reasonably keep your flasks up on bosses with it now?

My flasks for both characters (life and CI) are the same outside of Wise Oak vs Dying Sun, partly due to price reasons, I just don't use a Life Flask any more. I run Vinktar/Stibnite of Bleed immune/Diamond of Curse immune/Quicksilver on both, and then have Wise Oak on my life char and Dying Sun on my CI char. I can't really justify taking Surgeon because status immunity is required to cover both freeze and shock from Vinktar, and Master Fletcher is a very important damage node for ele builds. I'm not sure when you'd go Surgeon in general because for phys/chaos builds free Poison on the 6L is very important.

Yeah makes sense. again, I haven't really looked at doomfletch at all so I kinda thought that you didn't really go poison since you have 330% phys damage as ele, before any other additional ele damage. I generally know surgeon isn't really a thing but I wondered if for doomfletch specifically you might go surgeon+alchemist...though you would lose 10% pen, which is pretty sucky, the 10% added as random element seems rather insignificant in light of your base 330 and surgeon would let you drop a bleed removal flask for another unique, and help a little bit on long boss fights.

How much poison do you actually do with (TS - PPAD - WED - GMP - Pierce - ICS)? Generally I would agree that master herbalist is very very good, but it doesn't seem like much in light of the both scaling off of your base phys for very different amounts. say you have ~100% double dipping nodes on tree, you are getting ~30% of phys as chaos over time per arrow. 45% if you count shocking doubledip as well. Meanwhile wed gem + gear + doomfletch (330%*1.59 [gem] * 2.5 [~150 %increased wed modifiers]) mechanics has to put you at something over 1000% of phys as elemental. 45 of your phys% vs 1000%+ of your phys, seems like herbalist is mostly useless on a doomfletch build...? Even if you don't want surgeon, wouldn't the attack/movespeed/flask duration be very nice from going to nature's adrenaline instead of...what...2-3% more damage?

Yeah. Well I can see the pain of trying to do so, I could definitely see some people making it work, even if it means you have to drop boywer and take surgeon just to open up a unique flask slot, especially if surgeon isn't as poo poo as it was post-nerf. They re-buffed it slightly, iirc. You are making up for 10% pen on boyer with 20% from a balanced oak, you are making up for the flask charges gained from bowyer with the ones gained from surgeons.

I'm sure you are right though and surgeons' charge generation is total poo poo still, I haven't even bothered to try it since the nerf a few league ago. Just wishful theorycrafting here.

Why something that works well in one can't possibly work well in another because "its an mmo lol"?

Again I don't play gw2 so maybe there is some obvious reason why what they have doesn't relate to what we have, but you certainly haven't explained or made it clear at all.

While the actual gameplay of the two games may be different, it seems to me that both MMO RPG and A-RPG include the same "RPG" part where gear/content difficulty are related. I see no reason as to why the MMO vs Action styles of clicking on monsters and hitting hotkeys to kill them could possibly mean that you can't trade to acquire gear in similar ways in various games. Do mmos not have, or can't have, similar loot generation methods like "kill things to get a chance at X" and "kill things or complete tasks faster to get more of X over time"? Can they not have similar, alternative wealth/economy dominating methods, such as flipping, price fixing, etc., etc..?

tl;dr What's the actual difference between games that makes concepts we can observe in the GW2 economy/trading to not be comparable to PoE economy/trading? Saying "MMO" vs "NOT MMO" means jack poo poo to me.

Leaguestones themselves suck - finding them usually sucks, picking them up and stashing them sucks, loading them up in the tab every/checking the tab to see if they have expired sucks (especially since you can have different # of charges). Busy work in exchange for cool poo poo? I thought darkshrines was better, I think that there was more excitement due to the random nature of the outcome. Leaguestones don't really have that volatility, it all happens in the drop before you go through all the busywork to engage. For specific mapping/league customization, the old zana mods were way smoother - you get to access league poo poo without picking up dumb items, stashing dumb items, loading dumb items into a UI. I find league stones themselves to be a rather poor hybrid of the two, when they could have just expanded what zana already did without introducing the awful inventory/interface management.

For a filler league they don't care too much about, whatever, I don't really care that much either I guess...but I think they could have done any number of things to have cool/satisfying interactions with league customization than what leaguestones is.

TL;DR: PoE is cool, Leagues are cool. Using leaguestones to interact with PoE leagues, pretty meh.

What guide are you using?

Also, you would do yourself alot of good by getting some %es on tree as well, if you are going to stay as CI for now.

I would spec out of your pathing towards unwavering stance and grab these 10 nodes for ~100% es on tree [i put the names of the nodes in brackets so you can search for them]:

You can dip 2 points to the side for 20% es/14 flat below witch start/above scion start [foresight], 2 points to the hybrid nodes near both templar and shadow for 15% es and 8% res all [faith and steel/nullification], 4 points for 38% es if you branch towards witch start from [deep widsom], 15% and 10str from [widsom and blood] in the top right.

~~~~~~
It's really weird that your guide tells you to go CI early with no gear, and also get 0 ES nodes. Either your guide is really bad or you just didn't properly read it.
~~~~~~

vvv that area around elemental overlord does look really sketchy but I have no idea how far +10 int nodes go for WI so I didn't touch it. Even if that is a major fuckup (which it very well might be), you could still have a character that performs does quite fine despite those wasted nodes.

The bigger problem is that in those 70 levels you picked the node which sacrifices a big chuck of life and the ability to use healing potions in order to scale your ES investment. Which is zero, since you also have zero ES gear and zero ES on the tree.

That doesn't really sound like a fun time. I'm sure it's doable but it seems really sketchy to call that "strong as hell". Going CI before you should have a decent amount of flat ES between your chest/helm/shield (which requires levels), a leveled discipline (which requires levels), and some ES nodes (when you usually want to get some damage on the tree to start)...I don't see what you gain by going CI early, giving up ~1k free life and access to instant flasks.

Who wanted to know about my lab runnin setup I used, here is my poo poo this time around and some sort of writeup on it. I haven't played for a month so this will be long and be me remembering everything about this poo poo I have forgotten.

I did BV lab once a league since prophecy (inspired by the "#1 HC LIFE BASED BV PATHFINDER" post from back then), and changed up stuff as I focused on lab farming. This hidden potential setup has been my favorite, once I got it working. I used to go tri/quad curse, no hidden potential, semi crit, and MoM (mana on all jewels and rares). The 2.6 changes to BV mechanics mean't I couldn't use extra BV setups as utility curse application, which hosed up everything and forced me into this current style. I think this style ended up being both cheaper and better - though it's real hard to get hidden potential at the league start.

https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/MannersPlease/characters "mannersmemewetdream"

I also tried this as cherrubim's berserker but that was awful for lab and never do it unless you hate yourself. It was fun and good for general mapping though.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speed (and trap clearing strategy) comes from quicksilver+jade+stibnite on a queen of the forest pathfinder. Additional speed comes from smoke mine enchant helm + phase run + "the gryphon" offhands. Currently have 304 movespeed with flasks + mine + phase run, goes up to 334 if I killed something recently, or 349 if something hits me and causes bleed via boots on top of that. Just a QotF + the three flasks is more than enough speed to get started and make traps a trivial thing.
Defenses comes from Vaal pact + warlords (blasphemy), enfeeble (blasphemy), arctic armor, cwdt vortex, cwdt-bladefall-conc, the red trail, Taste of Hate, stibnite smoke, and ~40k evasion. You almost never get hit, and when you do, you have four forms of damage reduction, 2 ways to keep izaro chilled, leech, and a panicked flask to keep you up out of the red.
Offense comes from a BV setup, with poison from the ascendancy, and double dipping from the hidden potential jewel. Wither totem adds a ton of singletarget focus. I don't run a cast speed gem because I decided I was happy enough to just get it on my wand. I think I was trying to roll a 4b-2g and use faster casting but I got 3b-1r-2g, and so went with added fire until I got a lvl 3 empower instead of cast speed. You only need a few stacks to kill trash with leveled gems - even with my gryphon movespeed offhands - and with the amount of mana I reserve, it's hard to keep up with faster cast/echo setups. You can sustain BV channeling on bosses if you are leeching mana from them, and the rest of the time you don't need to sustain BV channeling, so it all works out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Changes I would aim for:

First, assume I pathed to shadow from witch, instead of from ranger, because I was dumb and it had something to do with me trying MoM at one point, or I needed the stats, or something. Regardless, connect to shadow from ranger instead. You can do that and get scion mana + jewel for 6 points instead of doing witch to shadow + jewel for 7 points, or just use the 4 saved points on the generic nodes I can take that I already have access to.

The final big upgrade would need a few big things to line up together: Acquire a blue life/resist amulet with +1 curse, roll 4b2g QotF and put in cast speed instead of empower, and purchased "the scourge" claw. Spec out of Whispers of Doom, and instead go through Occoultist's Dominion and Lord of the Dead, and grab the single minion damage node near scion. Remaining extra nodes can be used as all future level ups are: Scion life, ranger life/eva, shadow chaos/phys start, or shadow blood drinker. I would lose some of my base phys damage from empower, but gain LOTS of double dipping damage from the scourge, stay about even on overall cast speed, and gain a handful of passive tree nodes. Minion damage on jewels would give further upgrades as well.

Other things to do: Replace my jewels (i had mana since I was trying to get MoM to work at first) with life + dmg +dmg +dmg, only getting enough resistance to cap after gear. Try to get Commandment of Blades glove enchant, because it's broken as poo poo for general clearing and randomly leeching to full as you run thru lab zones. Roll t1 prefix/suffix helm with smoke mine enchant, on a helmet that isn't ugly as gently caress hubris.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To start this off "cheap", this is what I would aim for: 4L or 5L pledge for your main gem setup, add in a clarity gem with your extra mana, basalt instead of ToH, any stibnite instead of sin's rebirth, a granite or vinktar to fill and swap with your quicksilver before the last izaro phase.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Vinktars is the best flask in the game, and I am a pathfinder, but it's just not as good for lab farming. I was using it instead of Taste and I was dying occasionally to 1 shots. I switched, and then I stopped dying. Since I have vaal pact, I need a life flask to help in trap zones. And my final 3 flasks are going to help me run thru lab much faster than vinktars will help me kill izaro faster.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I forgot how much I liked theorycrafting poo poo in this dumb game and I can't wait for beta. I took a break but I think I will be back now to finish up my '36', if I can, and then maybe try to learn the act1-4 under 2 hrs thing.
Seems like he got further with less hp than his fb totems? impressive
Rodent, would you be willing to post up your filter creation rundown here (including what you use to do it?) I've missed a generation or two of using new PoE tools so I'm slightly curious about what you did, also, I imagine it might be a good thing to reference when newer players in 3.0 start asking about it.
I'm going to start necro support (or maybe some other kind idk I haven't thought too hard about it) because I can't be bothered to play and I want people to want me in their party so I can leech my atlas and achievement grinds and all that poo poo.
and ofc, flameblast totem until then.
And then I will make my QotF pathfinder of some variant, possibly a raider or ascendant if flasks get hit too hard, but I'm assuming at this point they won't really nerf quicksilver, jade, and stibnite, and that's all I mostly care about anyway.
Unique flasks got hit in this last beta patch. Mostly still seem solid, but a bit more on par with well rolled magic flasks. Also depending on the nature of the lab changes, it might be really awesome to run uberlab. New dark shines look nice and fun.
Wait, I want to see a vinitars on the beta that dropped after the update. Based on the data mining, they may have added the instant leech back.
I saw a picture on reddit, it did not have instant leech.
Regardless, flasks aren't nerfed enough to stop me from doing another QotF labfinder! Now I have to decide if I want necro first or just go ham with my lab farmer...gonna probably decide based on what my work schedule ends up like :)
What are the darkshrine changes?
soo just a random buff for player or reward? no loving vulnerability curse?
Hmm. ok.
So I guess I'm late to this, or I just forgot, but does:
quote:
We are adding random reward tables for all optional chests and shrines in the Labyrinth. We love players sharing knowledge and maps with each-other, but sadly this feature was sapping all the fun out of reaching a hidden cache of items.
Darkshrines now occur only in a specific context, which is much less challenging to reach than other rewards.
We are replacing the effects of all Labyrinth Darkshrines. These should remain interesting and unique, without adding raw power to Izaro.
There are now always two treasure keys available from optional trap gauntlets and puzzles.
The rewards for completing optional trap gauntlets and puzzles have been completely rebuilt. There are some fun differences between what they drop in the early game and the late game, but items that only take up one inventory slot feature prominently.
Silver Cache chests have been rebuilt. There were some particularly disappointing potential rewards for these, and things such as like shrines or minor chest rewards have been removed. We are aware that these take ages to unlock, and this adjustment aims to make it more worthwhile to do so.
In the first and second Labyrinths, silver keys are always in the same area as their silver cache. Rewards differ from the higher difficulties, aimed more towards being useful for new characters.
Mean you can get 1 (izaro) + 2 (buffs) + 1 (argus) +2 ("treasure keys from optional traps) +1 (silver cache 'curious lockbox' if it remains untouched) keys each run?
Guaranteed 6 keys every day? what???!?!??
Oh? I missed that. Though if it's what MannersPlease just quoted then it sounds like darkshrines are easy to reach but a legit gamble instead of the poo poo no one but people mapping the lab touch unless it's one of the few good results.
? what I just quoted says there is no gamble. Izaro does not get buffed by some of the effects unlike old darkshrine options, and they are replacing ALL the old ones (and the list of the new ones seem to be all positive), so I would assume it's just guaranteed buff to the player if you go out of your way to grab it (even if its randomized when you enter). maybe for some specific builds you could claim that randomly getting either acceleration or echoing shrine is a 'gamble', but I wouldn't call it that...
Shock and chill changes, they scale based on damage dealt up to max 30% reduced speed, 50% increased damage taken. Ground effects are 10% speed and 20% damage.
Also power charges now give 30% crit instead of 50%. Frenzy only gives attack damage instead of generic damage.
this is loving garbage
edit:
I'm ok with power charges being useful for ALL spell casters - I would like the idea that all charges are useful for everyone, because it makes the part (and price you pay) of building generation for them into your build/playstyle interesting. I think endurance and frenzy charges are in a good spot, and even though they are strong, I wish power charges were less build specific.
But now they went and made them even more specific in most ways, and made frenzy certainly more specific, while endurance stays the same. WHY. It certainly puts limits on build options/diversity, for what advantage I don't know.
I'm ok with the ground effects changes. They were quite strong before. I was ok with that, but a nerf doesn't seem unreasonable. As far as chilling/shocking on hits...well...it was a joke before, and still is I guess? Meh
