The Great Twist

:eonwe::eonwe:Resources you will use a lot: A Lovely Map, and An Exhaustive Database:eonwe::eonwe:
:eonwe::eonwe:Parks and Rec is current goon guild. Join discord and ask for an invite https://discord.gg/tXJYW48.:eonwe::eonwe:

Black Desert Online is one of Korea's latest entries into the long-standing series of time-burning chatrooms, colloquially known as MMO's. BDO has action based combat with a hefty focus on open-world gathering, crafting, and trading systems. A lot of activities like fishing, having a conversation with an NPC, and milking a cow are actual minigames, not cast bars. You can tame some wild horses, chop a bunch of lumber, have some workers build you a wagon out of that lumber, then take your wagon and deliver various trade goods between towns to pay for the furniture and crafting utensils for your ingame house, which you'll probably use to brew beer and start the whole process over again. Or you can just go kill orcs and loot their poo poo until you've died inside, then turn to chatting up half the NPCs in the game and becoming a socialite adventurer. Everything is voice acted, but it's probably going to be terrible, so I'm not sure whether to list it as a feature. There's also a story or something, but mostly it's just your dark spirit sidekick being a sassy jerk all the time.

Combat plays like a typical third-person ARPG. You have a few buttons for attacks, and how you combine those buttons will net you a whole bunch of different attacks. Holding W + and tapping LMB on a warrior will overhand swing, whereas holding Shift + tapping LMB will slash the ground so hard that dust flies up everywhere and somehow deals damage to everyone around you. Great for killing swarms of bees! You can even get a pretty pony and perform a few dazzling swordy and shooty maneuvers (Mounted Combat) whilst on your noble steed. There's a hotbar to place skills in, but very few abilities require it and most will actually penalize you with a cost increase if you don't press the native key combination.

Breaking from the 2010 norms of f2p cash shop heroism, the game is buy to play and no premium/subscription. The official NA/EU cash shop is quite tame in terms of pay to win (albeit very expensive), being mostly limited to $25 USD outfits to make you into a slightly better anime barbie and a "Value Pack" which gives some decent week-3month bonuses.

The CHARACTER CREATOR is the most important part of the game for a few people. You can even make and export your pretty princess for other people to use! If you don't like the idea of burning daylight to fine-tune half a dozen eye shape sliders (that you will never get just quite right), you can download awkward anime character designs and Angelina Jolie clones from people who won't see the sun anyway.

:eonwe:Classes:eonwe:
You get a normal weapon (like Longsword or Bow) and sub-weapon (Like Dagger or Talismans). These overlap for some classes. Awakened Weapons are unlocked at level 56, and further differentiate the classes. Some classes start use their awakening all the time, whereas others swap between normal and awakened depending on the situation. 56 will take you around 8 hours played to get once you know what you're doing.

Warrior/Valkyrie - Sword and Board. Can block frontal attacks with a shield and survive for days. Warrior awakened weapon is greatsword for speedmurder and Valkyrie gets a (great)lance and thigh-highs, which make her good at running towards things.
Warrior: Durability, Can Block, Grab, Damage (Awakening)
Valkyrie: Durability, Support, Can Block, Grab, Mobility (Awakening)

Wizard/Witch - Standard mage class of every high fantasy game. They are the god kings of guild fights and mass pvp, because they can easily wipe out dozens of clumped spergs n' zergs with meteors, lightning, and various wizardry poo poo. Witch is a wizard with boobs, which turns it into a different class. Awakened weapons are the main difference between the two: Wizard gets fiery and icy balls for the big damage, whereas witch grows balls of air and thunder. You also kind of get a pet
Wizard: BIGGEST AOE DAMNAGE, Long Range, Pet (Awakening)
Witch: BIGG AOE DAMNAGE, Long Range, Support, Pet (Awakening)

A Sword-slinging super-slicer class, with a flurry of sword stabs and sword slashes with many millions of swings. Disdains swinging said swords like real swords once you get awakening (long-range stabs).
Sorceress: Burst Damnage, Mobility, AOE (Awakening)
Dark Knight: Bigg Area Damnage, Can Block, Midrange AOE (Awakening)

:eonwe:Mechanics and Whatnots:eonwe:
-

Guilds are a bit weird in this game, but you can own towns and lands and poo poo, setting taxes and getting bonuses for guildies.
Parks and Rec is currently active goon guild!
  • Signing up for a guild means literally signing a contract, with penalties for leaving/being kicked early
  • Guilds can declare war, meaning pvp between the two guilds results in no penalty for your karma
  • You get payed every day for being in the guild, and the more you "contribute" (helping guild missions and being active), the more you can be payed.
  • Guilds can fight over nodes or towns during set siege times. These take place on the 1st server of a bundle (Balenos 1, Calpheon 1, etc).
  • Ballistas and Cannons and Trebuchets and Traps and Palisades
---

Gear/Equipment itself is pretty simplified in this game. The damage you deal is almost entirely based on your attack power (AP) – their armor (DP), and whatever damage modifier the ability you use has, and whether or not you hit an iframe.
  • Mobs and players higher than you get a bonus to “evasion” (as well as AP and DP), which means you deal 0 damage with your attacks
  • Armor isn't specific to classes. They are not soulbound (unless you intentionally use a "Brand" item on it) nor do they have level requirements, meaning you can equip them on alts.
  • Enchantments can't fail below +5 for armor, and +7 for weapons. They can fail above that but it won't really penalize you until +18 (Tri), where the item will go back down to +16 (Pri).
  • Lifeskill costumes (Silver Embroidered Stuff) and all accessories require another of the same item to enchant. If it fails, both items explode.
  • You can "Failstack" where you intentionally fail to enchant cheap items so you can enchant your more expensive items with a higher % success rate. It increases your rate of success by piddly amounts (2.5% - 0.5%) meaning it is not worth it unless you are enchanting an incredibly expensive piece of gear (Liverto and/or PRI+).
  • The best way failstack is to make an alt and have him kill horses until his karma gets to -1,000,000
  • If you succeed at enchanting, your failstack goes back down to 0. Don't rule out just outright buying enchanted gear on the AH.

---

Map/Nodes – This is complicated
  • Activating to a node gives you higher drop rates and better loot if you kill/gather in it. You can only activate nodes that are connected to a node you already own, or connected to a major town.
  • You have to create a path of nodes from one point to another in order to sell TRADE ITEMS for its actual value (crafted, bought, looted, OR gathered).
  • Not having the origin node of the item and the node you are selling the TRADE ITEM in will result in the item only being worth 30% of its actual value
  • Owning a node takes “Contribution Points”, which you mostly get from doing quests.
  • If you want your workers to harvest materials from a node, you have to activate the subnode. Not all nodes have subnodes.
  • You must visit the node manager to activate that node, unless you've got a :eonwe:VALUE PACK:eonwe:. You can deactivate the node from anywhere on the map, as long as you remove contribution from the subnodes and don't have it connecting two other nodes together
  • You can INVEST in a node after you own it. Investing takes energy, not contribution. This will increase the drop rates further but its benefit is debated. Only invest as a last resort of energy spending
  • In the desert and deep ocean, you can't see your position on the map without a 1 million gold compass that decays in a few days. Pick a general direction and run that way till you see landmarks
---

Housing is instanced and in static spots in this game. There's a few hundred pieces of real estate in the game, and you can own all of them!
  • Property take contribution points and money to buy, but just money to upgrade.
  • You can sell the property if you no longer need it to return your contribution points, but it won't return your money
  • Somewhat similar to the node system, houses have to be bought along a path. You can't buy house 4-5 if you haven't bought 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, and 4-4
  • You can activate ANY house as a residence (home) without owning the prior houses.
  • You won't need to actually visit any real estate except your residence. Workshops can be used from anywhere on the map, and storage/lodging are passive increases
  • Having the 1st rank house on the server (NA/EU) will give you access to a "monopoly" node which is a unique trading item resource workers can produce at. You will not get this without throwing oodles of cash at pearls and production and they're not worth it
---

Workers are your indentured servants. You buy them once and they work for life. You need them to use workshops, which are how you produce equipment, gear, and most poo poo besides food and potions.
  • You have to restore workers stamina after they work too long. Cooking is the only current method off doing this, and the most efficient way is to feed your workers nothing but beer all day
  • Workers can level up and receive traits and stat bonuses. Don't worry about this too much until you get artisan (can get a trait for 4x production). Naive workers (White/Grey) CANNOT level up; don't buy them.
  • You can buy and sell slaves on the slave market, accessible by talking to the work manager.
  • There are three races of workers. Giants can work for a long time (work longer without beer), goblins run and work really fast (workers must physically travel to the nodes), and humans are lucky (and get you more/rarer resources). Humans are probably the best overall
---

Gathering/Crafting is a big focus of the game. Most of these activities require energy to perform, which is a player resource that regenerates slowly over time (1 per 3 minutes), or faster if your character sleeps in a bed (2-3 per 3 minutes). When you run out of energy, you can't do any gathering or crafting poo poo via your character (workshops/workers are separate). You also can't do conversation minigame with npcs, can't milk cows, and a lot of other poo poo. A lot of quests will regenerate your energy as well. Your energy cap can be increased by completing knowledge tabs about the game world. No, it doesn't make sense.
  • Gathering itself is a single skill that applies to all gather/related tasks like mining and lumbering
  • Resource respawn speed is based on the number of people in the area
  • Costumes make you feel more confident and you learn stuff faster
---

Processing is how you refine raw materials.
  • Stuff is usually usable right off the tree, but processing it is usually required for more complicated recipes. You'll have to boil or air out dirty river water to make clean water for alchemy/cooking/sunstroke/hypothermia. Fish will go bad unless you dry it out.
  • You can't dry stuff if the 0s and 1s align on the server and it starts raining
  • Processing burns your energy in the same way gathering does. Higher processing levels allows you to make more complicated items, gives you higher returns each time you process something (+% Processing Success stat), and reduces the chance of costing energy
  • You can process some stuff like ingots via workshops in town to save your energy, but they take a while and usually yield less than doing it yourself
---

Cooking is mostly about making buffs and being bored while boiling water
  • There is a levelable stat based on how much food you've eaten called “Health”, granting a bonus to your maximum HP
  • Cooking is the only way to regenerate your workers stamina. If they keep slaving too long over your coal/mushroom/wheat stores or building your lovely boats and swords, they will stop working until you throw calories at them
  • You will probably spend a lot of your time making or buying beer, because it's the cheapest way to refill your worker's stamina
  • Almost as tedious as alchemy
---

Alchemy is super loving complicated, time consuming, expensive, and boring, but it's required for a ton of high end crafting items
  • Makes reagents for crafting different reagants
  • Makes drugs that do weird poo poo like make you jump higher
  • Makes drugs that do weirder poo poo like making you fish harder
  • Makes "Alchemy Stones" that give you buffs, but have to be enchanted (or "Polished") with high end materials to be worth a crap
  • It will require a lot of memorizing or googling on a second monitor, but offer potent short term buffs
  • The recipes have so many steps and specific reagent ratios (that also vary based on your skill level) that you will probably spend more time alt-tabbed than actually doing stuff onscreen in order to optimize your supplies
  • You can make bundles of potions and turn them into trade items at the Imperial Crafting
---

Fishing is for when you need to go afk or have the raging desire to play quicktime events.
  • If you press spacebar when you've got a bite, you get a short quicktime event you have to perform. This is much faster than autofishing, and offers much more XP
  • If you don't interact with the game, you'll autofish something every 3 or so minutes
  • Fishes start going bad (and lose trade value) a couple hours after caught and are ruined after 24 hours. You can DRY them (processing) so they last forever and are still usable in in cooking, but they almost all of their value
  • Can get a crossbow-harpoon to fish the biggest fish. You can physically see these bigger fishies in the ocean.
  • If too many people fish in an area, the resources start dwindling and it'll take longer and longer to catch anything.
  • There are “Hotspots” which give much better fish drops. They move around, but can be seen by seagulls; golden stationary fishing hotspots are gone.
  • There's leaderboards for the biggest fishies caught serverwide for pro-tier fishermens, though it doesn't give you anything except a reason to wave your dick around
---

Farming is an offshoot of gathering, but a bit more complicated.
  • You have to rent a fence from an npc and place it almost anywhere in the open world before you're allowed to just spread your plant embryos all over the ground. You can use alts to rent more fences
  • You can either harvest the seeds from the plant or harvest the grown version; not both. Harvested seeds can higher quality, giving a higher quality ingredient when grown. Plants will go up to 200% growth will reach old age and give you less harvests; Harvest/Breed before that
  • Where you place it matters. You have to make sure there's enough water, the correct heat/cold, and correct humidity (get them in the solid blue/red bars)
  • Water and fertilize it to grow it faster, or don't
  • You need to check in on your farm/plants every now and then to kill pests or give it more water, or else it will grow slower.
  • Scarecrows are ok and stop (rare) bird attacks. Waterways suck, don't use em
  • You can also send a worker to go deal with it instead, but you won't level your farming skill as fast
  • Plants only grow while you are online
  • Use a farming alt character so you don't have to run back to your farm every single time a caterpillar bites a leaf
---

Trading in BDO means delivering local trade goods from a town or settlement to another town. There's an auction house, but that's not the same!
  • You need to have invested contribution points the node, as well as have it connected to the node/town in which you are selling the trade item/pack in order to make any money off it. If you don't own it, it will magically turn into a worthless item and you'll only get 30% of its value
  • Donkeys are terrible, and carrying it on your back is even worse (but useful for leveling "Strength" stat, which increases weight capacity by piddly amounts). Get a Merchant Wagon or Noble Wagon if you want to trade regularly.
  • The farther away you trade an item from its source, the more money you get. Trent>Sandgrain Bazaar is a good route. Glish>Olvia is also good if don't have a lot of contribution to spend connecting nodes
  • Higher trading skill allows you to purchase more items from trade market NPCs, as well as increases your profits
  • "Bargaining" with a trade merchant allows you to have a chance at selling your goods at a higher price to the trade merchant. One option moves the scales a lot, and one moves it a little. Try to keep the scales level (it's mostly RNG)
  • Every hour, some random place gets a 200% trade bonus
---

Hunting is all about shooting dozens to hundreds of bullets into an animal whilst facetanking it
  • Shoot Bears
  • Shoot Boars
  • Shoot Sea Monsters
  • Shoot Whales (they don't shoot back but you'll need a sailorman to ferry alongside it)
  • Butcher knife animals afterwards and mysteriously gain the ability to shoot bullets harder.
  • Level up your matchlock using black weaponstones for more dumbage (Can delevel after +7)
  • Run around and shoot poo poo on your horse like some napoleonic Carabinier
  • Put your horse on a boat and hop on your horse to be a mounted boatman
  • Hunting targets barely take damage from anything but muskets and have oversized scary icons on the map
---

Taming Horsing is the tradeskill for horses,
  • Find horse. rope horse in horse-roping minigame, get close to horse and ride it back to stables to enslave it.
  • Force horses to gently caress and make a potentially better horse. List your horse as a horse prostitute on the market for other horse-owners to have their horse gently caress and produce new horse.
  • The higher the horse's Tier level, the better the horse. Horses can't improve their own tier, but can gently caress another horse and produce new horse with possibly a better tier.
  • Horses can have skills like kicking, strafing, and stopping fast. Sprint, Drift, and Instant Accel are good skills for a horse to have, and makes it a big money horse.
  • The higher your skill in horsing, the faster your horse will become skilled. Horseowners have to make their horse practice their skills so the skill won't fail. A horse who fails a skill usually knocks you off or unskillfully hurts itself. The higher your horses level, the more skills your horse may learn.
  • Level up your horse by having your horse do most horse-related things.
  • Level up your horse skill by doing most horse-related things on a horse.
  • Dead horses get worse at horsing and become exponentially more expensive to turn into a living horse again, so a pro horseowner tip is to not kill your horse.
---

Sailing is all about riding a horse except its a boat and in water and other people can join in on the boredom
  • You probably want an Epheria Sailboat
  • Level it up by horsing around in the DEEP sea (where you can't see your position on map) or by shooting rude fish/mans/fishmans/boats with mounted cannons
  • Lets you use horse abilities on boats like turning faster and moving forward faster and moving backwards faster and other boring crap
  • Takes forever to level
  • Don't do it unless you really like doing something else while having the game actively running
  • If you're gonna level it anyway, just get it up to skilled 1 for the extra speed boost
---

Amity/Conversations are for when a npc has feelings and doesn't feel hard enough about you to sell or tell you things. Having the same horoscope as an NPC supposedly makes it easier talking to them

Jackard posted:

Amity is easy and I don't even understand how card abilities work.
  • Cards have two stats: Success and Points. Game even does the math for you in the second section.
  • You need success for points, but those points don't count unless you fill the Conditions.
  • Combos multiply your points.
  • I think success also gives a bonus to next roll, so you want to start with your worst cards for the Fail X condition
  • All other conditions basically read "Get High Point Combos"
---------------------

TVDinna posted:

The only accessories you should ever be enchanting are Crescent Guardians, Tree/Basilisk belt, Ogre/Laytenn, Tungrade/Whale/Khalk earrings. Buy everything else.

The most time efficient way to get strong:
1) Buy PRI/DUO Liverto = 90-150mil silver
2) Buy PRI/DUO Steel Dagger (or equivalents) = 30-60mil silver
3a) Buy PRI/DUO Grunil Helm/Gloves (5AP set bonus for those specific two)
3b) Buy remaining Chest/Boots (Grunil for 150AP for those 2 pc, then 4 pc bonus of 2AP), or another 2 piece with desired set bonus.
3a+3b costs) Full Grunil PRI set = 120mil, Full Grunil DUO set = 200mil.
4) Asula Accessories in Mediah

Total costs: 410m for DUO Liverto/Steel Dagger/Full Grunil. Awakening (blue quality) 100-300mil depending on enchant level.

After those steps, do you start saving up for Kzarka, Bhegs, etc.
If you get a drop, sell it (with value pack). Do not try to enchant it. You will spend 2-3 times more money trying to enchant it than to buy it outright. TRI Bhegs and TRI Kzarkas are 450mil. The cost of the item is 95mil so you'll break even if you can hit TRI within 350mil silver for memory fragments, enchanting stones and FS building costs.

If you start a brand new day 1 account right now and just collect welfare and play casually. You will have about 200 mil by the end of Month 1 at the minimum. If you're playing half seriously, you will accrue the remaining money for Full DUO gear and the accessories recommended by the end of month 2 pretty easily. Save money, liquidate everything, buy all the above pieces.

------

How do you get the most efficiency out of your playtime?
Get daily boss scrolls, run with groups.
AFK fish or train horses.
AFK fishing will get you tons of memory fragments and you can run groups for those like daily boss scrolls.
AFK fishing greatly benefits those with huge inventories as you can AFK fish longer. If you don't have big inventory, horse training is solid money.
Catch 1 T3 male, 2 T3 females. Male to 28, females to 26. This nets you 3 breeding attempts and a glue factory attempt. You have roughly a 33% chance to get a T6. You can do this with low inventory and just AFK all day riding horses while at work or sleeping.
You can sell T6s or try to breed them even higher.
Get discord and hop on the IHA channel and always do bosses. Use a alt boss witch and you can pass gear to level 2 up to 50 something more efficiently. Tree/Bheg/Karanda/RN (RN is pretty poo poo) are very close by. Mudster and Kzarka are very close by to each other.
A Liverto bundle will fetch 8-9mil and an Awakening bundle 7-8mil. You'll pick up a good number of magic crystals that will also sell for a decent amount. If you pick up a boss armor/weapon, that's 95mil.

------

Worker node advice for PNR guys:

We do a ton of gathering guild missions and we always try to encourage people to go and chop logs/hit rocks. Especially during the events which give bonus drops to gathering.
Gathering gets you hard/sharp stones which are worth 1.6/3.6 respectively and used to enchant gear so they're very valuable.
A lot of newer players keep asking in guild chat about nodes to connect, etc.

I would suggest doing the following:
Veila - max out your workers there, get a residence and grab all the nearby grains (corn/potatos).
Heidel - Get the Heidel mine
Keplan - Grab the coal node right next to Keplan.
Iron mines near Altinova - Iron + Zinc
Glish - Iron mine next to town

Glish: get the Armor factory and the Tool factory. Do the following items:
Make steel using melted iron shards + coal.
Make Bronze with zinc + copper shards.
Grind down magic crystals for Blackstone powder.
Chop some lumber nearby for tools.
Mine rocks for rough stone for tools.
Farm tough hide.
Melt down Black Crystals from Altinova Iron mine.

At Glish, you can now craft all your tools (make sure you use a high luck human to proc lucky tools/Ult Grunil).
You will need to farm tough hide but if you do that, you can craft Grunil for repairing yours or just selling.

Always use lucky tools when gathering, as it increases hard/sharp rate.

When I have VP buff active, I craft several weeks worth of Lucky Steel tools and sell the regular ones on the MP.
Don't craft anything but Steel, it's the best value.

maybe? crafting is really in depth but it won't stop people from fishing all day instead

Unless they change the system for cbt2/release, there are multiple instances you can swap around every 15 mins or so. The only thing that matters is NA or EU

When you're forced to pick an instance at the start, whatever you pick will be what you default to when you log in

also pick a name and emblem for the guild so I can take a power nap thanks guys luv u

"improved distance" doesn't seem to increase any object/grass/people rendering distance; it only seems to improve the quality of ultra-long range mountain and terrain renders

turn it off and save yourself a few frames, regardless of high end mode or not

render distance increases as you go from high -> very high -> high end mode

:eonwe::eonwe:I need a tally of $100 sperglords who will be playing at the 96 hour headstart:eonwe::eonwe:

If we've got enough, it'd be a nice boon to be able to get a couple guild gathering missions in before $50 and $30 so we can increase the guild cap.

Guild Gathering missions are 90 minute timed guild-wide quests that allow you to keep what you gathered; the only requirement is that the guild collects it during the 90 minutes. It also gives both youAND the guild a respectable chunk of money when you complete, with the personal money based on how much you pine/iron/flowers you got. They're not terribly difficult, but they're gonna require more than 4 people to do reliably.

I can't just start a shitton of them and do them whenever someone feels like it; In addition to the 5 a day limit, they take 20k guild funds to start that we lose it if we don't complete it

you use another piece of the same armor to repair it from failed enchant durability permadamage. you can repair it normally (from use) at any blacksmith, or an anvil in your house. you'll also need the knowledge of it (taught by 1000 affinity with most blacksmiths)

dunno. i met a blacksmith who had the hammer zodiac, and another with the shield one

Top'tha page!

It looks like we have quite a lot of $100 ballers. How big can we get the guild during the headstart time?

depends on how many guild missions people are willing to do with their $100 investment

the starting size of the guild is 15 and we've got about 30 so far who are in the 96 hour headstart, so I can't invite everyone first day until we've done 2 or 3 guild missions

no. we've been through this stupid voipwar junk from the prior and current thread. mumble has always maintained a higher population of people, and that's what we're defaulting with. If discord adds some newfangled functionality that i'll actually use, i'll consider swapping

for now, any text based comms can be done ingame or on the thread. voip comms can be done in mumble. we've had a channel and subchannels for BDO in here for a week or so

i'm also not making an alt site or doing some crazy auth system. You can invite whatever friends you have assuming we have space, but I'll tar and feather both you and your friend if he/she manages to royally gently caress something up.

If a pubbie is super amusing i'll probably invite him as well

at this rate though, i suspect we'll be full up or close to it for quite a while. No overflow guild until we actually need it, however
