I didn't notice a wasps nest near my home when I was sweeping the side walkway, and I accidentally hit it with the broom. I was immediately surrounded and stung around 10 times. My arm swelled up horribly and it hurt almost as bad as when I've broken bones. F- - - - would not do again.

The positive side of the gluten free trend is the huge variety of products it brought to market which means celiacs can actually eat a bunch of food again. I would love for lactose intolerance to become trendy enough to get milk powder out of poo poo it doesn't belong in .

It's been getting better. Trader Joes is adding new stuff all the time. Even Aldi gives me a few options in the milk aisle for cereal fluid.

Lactose-intolerant adults can consume some amount of lactose without trouble. How much milk powder are you consuming to have problems?

You have no idea how sensitive some people are to it. Before we realized it, my wife had me try a smoothie she made with whey protein powder. It felt like a hole was burned into my stomach, and I puked harder than any other time in my life.

It's just better for me to avoid it entirely.

My grandmothers boyfriend is alergic to milk. This is different from lactose intolerance, and he cannot eat, or drink, anything containing milk, or a milk derivative.

This causes some problems, as there are alot of things that are lactose free, but still contains milk. LIke most chocolates.
Huh. Maybe I'm allergic to dairy and not just lactose intolerant.

Nooooope. Not even worth trying. I don't mind cutting dairy, I just wish it wasn't in all kinds of stuff that it doesn't need to be (granola bars, chocolate, etc.).

GotLag posted:

Yeah that doesn't sound like intolerance. What was the timescale on that stomach pain? Lactose intolerance takes an hour or two to take effect, feels like intense cramping in your intestine and leads to gassy diarrhea, not vomiting.

Edit: for what it's worth, that sounds like the reaction my stepdad had to cheese, but he could eat other dairy just fine.

About 2 minutes was all it took to make me puke. Cheddar cheese gives me crazy heartburn but doesn't make me vomit.

I never wanted to be this way :( . I used to drink a lot of milk growing up, but had to stop when I hit about 24.

This is how most of these situations go. A shard of metal (usually from grinding) gets in the person's eye at the end of the day. The person ignores it, doesn't report it to medical, and goes home for the day. From what I've been told, it only takes an eye a few hours to heal over a shard of metal. So the next morning when the person wakes up, its irritated. Person reports to medical. Medical sends them off site to an eye doctor. Eye doctor has to use some sort of drill to get into the eye so they can pull the shard out. There is some other stuff they have to do if its been in there long enough
This happened to me when I was 18. I was cutting my computer case to install a window (lol nerd) and was wearing my glasses but not safety glasses. A spark hit me in the eye without me really noticing it. I went to work the next day and then my eye started hurting, which I thought was from soap at the car wash. I went to the ER that night and they had to drill my eye to get the steel out. Then the ER doc referred me to a specialist to get the rust string drilled out a couple days later. Both times were terrifying.

Wear your safety glasses.

EDIT: To clarify, I'd mentioned a woman who was scalped at my factory some time ago. Earlier in the thread.

"The machine ripped Thayer’s scalp from just above her eyebrows backward toward her neck. Writhing in pain, her mother said, Thayer pleaded for co-workers to cut her loose. It wasn’t until paramedics arrived that she was freed. Thayer was then taken by helicopter to Akron General, which is just a short distance away by ambulance."

:ohdear:

I was curious about Thayer since her family's name is popular back home, and I found this:
