So a dude that works at my wife's school just recently got his mom's (grandma's?) '53 Ford Crestline. Apparently he's not much of a car guy but really wanted to have a restoration project with his son. Unfortunately, it seems that his son doesn't give a poo poo so I may actually end up helping out some. I don't really know poo poo about cars of this vintage so I'm not really sure where to start. Not sure when the car was last run, either, but I figure the standard of all fluids, filters, and rubber would be a good place to start. Unfortunately, ALL of the glass is gone and needs to be replaced.

Either way, might be fun to work on something that old.

Check out the glass situation first. If you can't find any windows and have to get custom ones made you might as well just chop the roof anyway.

Glass is mighty expensive. I haven't worked on any 50s cars yet but have on lots of 60s ones, pretty curious what you'll find.

Yeah the glass is a problem. Apparently he's been looking for junkyards for replacements, but it's rare to find anything that old. Story is that every window was broken by assholes. hosed up.

No idea on any info on the car. If anything does happen, it'll be over the summer once he has time. If I end up getting roped into this thing, maybe I'll start a thread.

4 stroke fuel injected Yamaha 90 hp outboard motor that hasn't been cranked in at 3 years. Plan of action is to:
1. Pull the lower unit, lube everything up
2. Change oil
3. Replace the water pump
4. Pull the tanks, clean them out, replace fuel lines
5. Pull the plugs, put some TCW-3 oil in the cylinders, try and rotate the fly wheel after a day or two.
6. New plugs
7. Check all wiring
8. New fuel lines plus filter(s)
9. New fuel injectors
10. Pray to the outboard motor gods?

Am I missing anything?

Do number 10 first and then between all other steps as well.

Did an oil change today, and I'm pretty sure my aluminum low-profile jack put down more oil than I spilled when removing the oil filter.

I had two really nice aluminum jacks, and now neither of them work. Guess I'll see if I can take the good parts off of the one spewing it's fluid all over the floor onto the other one that just has broken mechanical parts and see if I can have a single working jack.

Also, it's getting too hot to work in the garage already, I have no idea how Geirskogul spends all day working on his stuff in an apartment parking lot. Some of it is age I'm sure, as the older I get the less I like working in the heat. loving glad I lost my job in construction 5 years ago last December, best thing that ever happened to me sending me back into IT and an air-conditioned office.

Dude. Ramps. Ever since I got my ramps I haven't even looked at my jack when oil change time comes. Don't do much good for tire rotations though.
