How many times have you been asked to cover up the crimes of forum mods, and told it was for the good of the website? You are the bravest, most honorable posters I know, and if you're willing the accept corruption at the highest levels, what hope is there for Something Awful?

Wasn't Shatner very heavily involved in Chaos on the Bridge and the whole point was that TOS was the best and gently caress you guys my show is better than yours? Roddenberry was definitely a mess, and I'm sure he found evidence to prove his points most of the time, but when the evidence didn't actually fit his narrative that didn't stop anybody from including it anyway, like the Stewart threatening in the cafeteria. The whole thing felt a lot like the 'Kirk is the bested guy in the universe' books* Shatner wrote.

So, there's a discussion about B'elanna on facebook I've been seeing lately which I'd like the thread's input on. One side is that she's a lovely character because she's angry a lot and it's very one note and shallow. The other is that she's low-key good because of her conflicted nature due to her experiences as a half-klingon.

And what's the difference between her and Keh'layr? Was Plakson Prime raised by Klingons? She seemed way less hosed up by her mixed heritage.

That doesn't make any sense? Her "conflicted nature due to her experiences as a half-klingon" don't change the fact that she's pissy and wildly inconsistent. Nothing about that defense makes me want to see her on screen more.

I'm all for blaming things on Voyager, but it's just poo poo everywhere all the time without end. Thanks to the internet and social media everyone lives in their own personal bubble and everyone who isn't in that bubble is a fuckstick piece of sub human nazi trash. Also every single thing that happens in a show, every casting decision, every phrase uttered, is a political statement. And god help you if you aren't perfectly aligned to my politics because that means it's death threat time. The only way a "fandom" can not be utter toxic garbage is if it's so nascent that it's a stretch to even call it a fandom.

One of the worst things about DS9 Bad Episodes(TM) is that some of them have such great B plots, or little bits in them.

No one likes Melora, but it also introduces one of the best characters in the history of Star Trek:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3KqCeusyVE

Meridian is an absolute stinker, but it's got Jeffery Combs buying porn off Quark:

As mentioned, Storyteller is bad but it introduces the best bromance on Star Trek.

Oh good, one of the first casting announcements will be to make sure that loving Section 31 is here to poo poo up this show too.

I wonder how long until there's a scene where Picard objects to Alana and S31's enhanced interrogation techniques but then relents and acknowledges that sometimes other people's paths have more shades of grey than his, and never once brings up the lovely weekend he spend with David Warner that one time.

I really liked the BSG battle from the pilot movie, with Adama looking at the radar thing and giving orders changing the ship's yaw and pitch and stuff. It almost made it seem like he was guiding the ship through a three dimensional space with no real up or down. I guess that wasn't exciting enough though because no one has ever done it again, including BSG.

Now we know that The Orville universe shares the inverse law of shields with Star Trek as well.

The more ships there are, the less effective shielding is. In battles like these it basically doesn't exist, and everything is 1HKO.

Second Skin - there's a weird thing with this episode that makes me think they rewrote the last part. If Kira was just an accessory to the plan to unmask a dissident, why was the Obsidian Order trying so hard to convince Kira she's really Cardassian? I guess you could say they were trying to make the most of things and get some secrets out of her, but that seems less interesting. I felt like that was originally the episode's main plot, and the mysterious Kira-body that gets wheeled out of cold storage would turn out to be the Cardassian woman they were trying to convince Kira of being - years before, altered to look Bajoran and replace Kira, but she failed and died.

They were in a hurry to get to a place where she was considered non-cooperative and to set off the old man.

They did change the ending though, the original ending was going to have Bashir tell Kira that her actual identity was inconclusive and he couldn't say for sure that she wasn't a cardassian operative.

I don't agree with idea that the Khitomer Conspiracy would have been S31. It would make no sense for them to provoke a war between the UFP and the Klingons.

This is why S31 as a concept is garbage. They are either involved in every type of plot like this, or they are incompetent and bad at their jobs.

In a world where S31 exists, the Khitomer Conspiracy had to have gone one of three ways. Either 1) S31 knew about a supported the Conspiracy, meaning they wanted a war for no reason and failed to achieve it, 2) S31 knew about the Conspiracy and was opposed to it, but were incapable of having any meaningful effect and it was only stopped thanks to our heroes, so they still failed, or 3) S31 had no idea what was going on, which means an utter failure of intelligence.

How??? The plot makes no sense. I know the bar for quality Star Trek lowered dramatically starting with Voyager, but I don't see how that episode could be a top 10 best episode. It's so emotionally manipulative to the audience. The plot makes no sense, and having throw away characters you don't see ever again means there's zero investment.

The shift in perspective is why it's so popular. There's 1,000 people on the ship and we never here anything from the other 985 of them.

Also the plot is painfully simple and I think you're missing half of it. It's very clearly laid out that the Cardassian is spying for the Federation, and he's doing so because he's ethically opposed to the current Cardassian leadership, and the Federation wants to get their spy back in place safely. The episode comes up pretty regularly and I've never heard of anyone who had trouble understanding the plot before.

He had to have an excuse to cross the border and escorting a Bajoran prisoner as a bounty hunter was considered a good excuse. I think I watched maybe half of the first batch of short treks before losing so much interest I just forgot about them. I wasn't going to bother this time, but I actually went out of my way to find and watch the tribbles one, just for H Jon Benjamin, and it was worth it because it was hilarious. I guess if I considered this official trek canon and I cared about how it fit in with the rest of the setting I'd hate it for making the tribbles a created by star fleet thing and shrinking the universe and all the other entirely valid complaints but "official Star Trek canon" has been hosed and rewritten and retconned and prequeled and ignored so bad already that it's basically meaningless at this point.

So who cares, I watched a funny thing for 15 minutes and laughed at the perfect mix of Bob Belcher, Archer, and ARBYS in space.
