A thought just occurred to me. Trump has frequently called pollsters rigged when he's losing but praises then when he's winning. How does that not come across as the fakest poo poo ever. If you think the polls are rigged, how are they suddenly not rigged if you're up, only to be rigged again when he goes back down? It's not a two way street, either they are or they're not! I know I'm putting more thought into this than any of his voters, but Jesus Christ.

He also posted a fake 538 poll that had him "winning" before the 2nd debate. If you looked at the map, not only did it have more EVs for Hillary, the number of EVs listed at the top didn't add up to the map.

I'm having a stupid liberal slap fight with one of my friends over the ATT merger and how he expects that to be business as usual during the Hillary presidency. He says he wouldn't be as worried if Bernie was the president.

That's all nonsense and I don't care about any of that but it got me to thinking, what would it look like today if Bernie had won the Dem nomination?
My thoughts are that he would have had a much harder time with unification at the DNC, many of Trumps scandals wouldn't have stuck, there'd be another spoiler candidate in the race, polling in teens nationally with potential to win 2 states- Bloomberg? Bernie world be polling below or even with Trump but we'd be looking at a fully R congress and potentially a presidential decision from Paul Ryan.

Anyone disagree?

I think Bernie would have beat Trump, but it might have been closer.

Bernie "Russians have been hacking to try to help you win"
Trump "Bernie, the Russians wouldn't help me when they have a communist like you on the ticket"

This would have been a rough attack on Bernie that might work against low information voters. However, he wouldn't have to deal with the unfavorable issue Hillary has. Her campaign staff is much better than his. (at least the top of it anyway)

Bernie doing worse than Hillary because he's a socialist seems pretty weird since the GOP base have been convinced that Hillary is the second coming of Stalin for about a quarter of a decade now.

Personally I think that Bernie would have done better on account of not having said quarter of a decade of vilification hanging around his neck.

The main problem would have been all the older voters are scared of the word socialist (due to decades of propaganda from living through the cold war) and Bernie doesn't shy away from the word.

We will never know who would have done better but don't underestimate how scared of "socialist" older voters can get.

Well, as mentioned the rightwing old people think that Hillary is also a socialist, and the leftwing ones probably wouldn't care. Against centrists it could have been a problem if Bernie went up against a regular GOP candidate, but I doubt that it would have made much of a difference against the walking dumpster fire that is Trump.

While campaigning in Austin, (incoming anecdotal evidence) I encountered many older Democratic voters in the primary that specifically mentioned not being sure on Bernie "because I'm liberal but not liberal enough to be a socialist." I assume most of those voters would have voted Bernie over Trump but still something to consider. The real question is how much would that have worked on voters like Ken Bone?
