I feel like I probably could have done some Pan, but since my last gargoyle died like a chump in extended, and it's the tourney and all, I figured I'd just nab the orb and settle for at least one win this tourney. New mutation potion roulette is cool and good, although it has pretty removed any incentive I had not to immediately quaff-ID any potions I come across. Assigning weighting to malmutate so that teleportits and zerkitis come up less often, or add some more negative mutations like -1 AC or resist or other trivial bullshit (like 80% of positive mutations), and giving Neqoxecs an excuse to malmutate less often and I'd be fairly satisfied with the mutation system and malmutate. Definitely a step in the right direction, which is refreshing. It feels far less dangerous to actually eat the purple now, which is a good thing, since on most characters I have had previously with a good start I avoid mutations like crazy because of how horrible the bad ones can be.

I mean, your reward is getting Jivya to move all your stats from str to dex and then you die because you don't damage anything fast enough, so I wouldn't get too worked up about her being hard to get to?

The increased Hopkins LoS and improved aptitudes and stats make them a lot more interesting to play, the LoS change in particular makes wide open floors really tricky. They're much more interesting to play than their original incarnation.

So if you have the inhibited regeneration mutation, you don't regen HP if there's say, a submerged swamp worm SOMEWHERE in the swamp in your LoS range, which let me tell you is making clearing the swamp real lovely for me as a Hopkins. Dunno if that's intended or not, really.

Antennae 1 & 2 are kinda lame, but at least 3 gives you sInv so if you pretend you're wearing a +0 hat of sInv it's like you never gave up the slot at all! Also, the +1 LoS on Hopkins is super noticeable with things like Tormentors, Hellfire, curse toes (argh those mushrooms) on the screen. Had probably my diciest ascent with one yesterday (only two !haste all game didn't help any).

Yeah ogres being able to cast again is cool and good, ogres learning maces slower than polearms and staves because of fuckin' arbitrary "a bloo bloo why does one of two races able to use this weapon always use this weapon???" is goddamned stupid, and laughably so IMO. I'd be perfectly happy with a 0 apt in maces, right alongside polearms and staves, the +3 was kinda ridiculous, but -1 is just lovely game design on par with mummies and crap. If you're gonna make ogres into mummies just remove 'em and I'll play a maces troll instead. e: I wont actually play trolls

Holy moley is new Tomb awful. Instead of stairdancing your only choice is to prime a teleport when going down to T:2 and T:3 and hope you land in a relatively unoccupied area before you get the poo poo murdered out of you by dozens of rear end in a top hat mummies. I've got my Golden Rune for the tourney and I'm never going back there again, so uh, job well done I guess??
