I know I'm still new, but the Coast Guard ODU seem pretty useful for being practical and looking okay. Could the Navy have just added a cuff or a crease or something to make it "navy unique" and have just used that rather than going to type 3's? Since the Coast Guard already uses them wouldn't the logistics have been simpler and streamlined?

Guaranteed it ends up being a berthing again, there just isn't 'extra' space on a DDG where you could move it to.

No doubt there will be a memorial installed as well, similar to USS Cole.

Talk to your Captain and see if they're amenable. Your Port Engineer should have the details on how to get through to that particular company's management.

This for sure.

The organization he works for is probably ISO 9001 compliant or something similar and will track positive feedback from government customers and will count towards good things internally to the organization.

That is of course, taking the huge leap of faith that anyone in his company is competent at all. It can't hurt to try.

LF, AECF is a good program if you're actually set on enlisting.

I was AECF and got designated ET at boot camp, ETs have a great standard of living while at sea and about middle of the road standard of living when in port. I was an ET for 6 years and loved my job, but hated being in the Navy.

If you're computer savvy or want to be, go IT and get as many certifications as you can while you're in. If you get your CCNA/CCNP and a TS clearance you can get really good jobs after 4-8 years active duty.

If you're into DnD, anime, or furries I recommend STG.

We just need to build a bunch of small cheap ships really fast. They can be low quality since they'll be cheap and expendable and easily replaceable. Maybe they can specialize in littoral combat since that's a weakness of our blue navy fleet. Fortunately, the DoD always gets procurement right and congress never fucks with it so this will be an easy win.
