We absolutely need to understand the plight of people on the other side of the aisle, but saying we need to pick our favorite conservative intellectual is stupid. The Republican party has been drumming intellectuals (and not-so-intellectuals) out as RINOs since they needed to somehow say Bush wasn't a republican after Katrina in 2006. I would have been happy to say someone like Andrew Sullivan before he needed to start calling himself independent because they just couldn't shut up about how badwrong gay marriage was.
I read several conservative commentators, but I don't think I could name a favorite because I think they are completely wrong 99% of the time. I will say I have newfound respect for a couple who haven't yet fallen in line behind Trump though.

Is this set of numbers a policy that can legally be called an insurance policy post-ACA? I thought that companies were voluntarily cancelling that poo poo, hence the "keep your doctor" nontroversy.
I have a silver plan for an individual, and my costs before the subsidies are about half that, and the deductible is less than half.

I can imagine the cartoon may be about a family plan, but even then, the deductible can be a misleading number, because apparently a lot of people think that means you pay everything out-of-pocket until you reach that magic number, which is not the way it is. If $7000 represents the annual cost of the premiums for a family plan, it's certainly realistic, but then you're talking about coverage for multiple people.

I actually argued with a guy about this a few months back, because while I'm sure there are horror stories and what he was describing was a lot like what is in the cartoon here, my experience is the ACA has been a godsend and while it's not perfect I will defend the gently caress out of it in the face of the nothing that is in line to replace it. It took me a while to find out he was paying so much because he missed the deadline to enroll for subsidies. How he can blame the ACA for this situation I don't know, but he did.

Also note the man in the cartoon is in a bar drinking when he appears unable to afford to pay for clothes or the care of his family.

Well I can only speak for myself and how it has worked for me (I understand different plans are different), but for your average doctor visit and non-specialty meds, you pay the copay. If you need like an X-ray or an MRI or something, you pay whatever part of the cost your plan says you have to. If poo poo hits the fan or you need a specialty medicine or a hospital stay then yeah, it gets expensive, but that's insurance for you regardless of Obamacare.

Tip: If you ever find you need a crazy expensive medicine and your insurance won't cover it, talk to the drug manufacturers. A lot if them have programs that are really helpful.

Edit: Just checked and it's more expensive for specialists this year. That's going to be a problem. Still, it's better than nothing.

What were the salary and working conditions like in the NC case? You say that citizens don't "want" to do this kind of work, but that should only be the case if they have more attractive options. I think you are underestimating how truly lovely it would be to pick vegetables all day for a living. I can imagine few jobs worse, and I literally doubt I would even consider doing it for anything close to what would be a reasonable wage. Most of them are in safe districts anyways. From what I see it's looking like Democrats are making a show of putting up opposition candidates in places they normally would skip, but whether that leads to them picking up a lot of seats--enough to make a difference in the last 2 years of Trump's term--I cannot guess, but I personally in my non-expert opinion suspect not.

But then, all hope and optimism I had about my my fellow Americans was broken by the last election.

Sometimes the denial of reality just gets to be too much for me. I mean you don't like Obamacare, fine, I admit it has problems. But how you can sit there and legitimately try to make it look like the Republican plan is an example of Republicans being staunch and sober conservatives in the face of Democratic recklessness is just beyond me. Millions of people will lose health insurance. A number of those people will die as a direct result. This is literally what the plan will do.

He and his family bankrolled an alphabet soup of globalism including the UN, CFR, NAFTA, CAFTA TPP, WTO, IMF…on and on.
