A Samsung store in Singapore caught fire on Tuesday morning, just a day before the company is set to announce its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8.

According to Channel News Asia, Samsung confirmed there was a fire at the store's location in the AMK Hub shopping center, and it was quickly extinguished by water sprinklers. There were no reported injuries, and several surrounding stores had to be temporarily closed down, according to the report.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but it supposedly involved "contents measuring 1m by 2m" in the store's storeroom, according to Channel News Asia.

Samsung is offering a new deal for the Galaxy S8 that’s pretty appealing if you’re a T-Mobile customer: buy one S8 from Samsung’s website, get a second one free after a instant rebate.

There have been a few deals for the Galaxy S8 offering a second, free phone from carriers (including T-Mobile), but Samsung’s deal is refreshingly simple and free of fine print. Unlike other deals, where you had to activate a new line or lease both phones, Samsung’s offer just requires that you activate one of the two S8s on an existing T-Mobile line through the Samsung website, after which the company will issue you a $750 refund to cover the second phone on your original method of payment within seven to ten days.

Samsung is also throwing in a free “Entertainment Kit” for any Galaxy S8 purchases from its site, which includes a Clear View stand, a 64GB MicroSD card, a six month Netflix subscription, which further sweetens the pot.

The buy one, get one free deal is valid now through Samsung’s website for “a limited time,” so if you’re looking to take advantage of the offer, it might be best to act quickly.

Now consider that the portfolios of the iPhone 6, the iPhone 7, and the iPhone 8 have all exhibited major flaws stemming from the hardware design of the smartphones. While past performance is no guide to future stability, consumers are more adept at recognising patterns. The reliability of the Galaxy range in the mainstream media is streets ahead of the iPhone.

what's wrong with the 8

why is he so allergic to just saying "don't buy this piece of poo poo"

quote:

Wait for the inevitable fire sale

The Palm phone is a terrible device for $350. It's outrageously expensive for what it offers, and if you're looking for a good smartphone at this price, buy something from Nokia. If you're looking for portability, a smartwatch is more portable and, with the addition of NFC and fitness tracking, more functional than the Palm phone. Combine this with the worst battery life of any Android phone we've ever tested, and the Palm phone thoroughly, completely fails across the board at any use case you could possibly want to throw at it.

I don't hate the Palm phone, though. This super-tiny smartphone is unquestionably fun to have around. I never get tired of showing it to people and seeing their reactions. It's cute. It makes people laugh. It's just not useful, and no one should spend this much money on it.

The best-case scenario (and maybe most likely scenario?) for wannabe users of the Palm phone is that it's a complete sales disaster. Verizon, loaded with stock from its failed tiny-smartphone experiment, starts with the fire sales, and in a few months, maybe you'll be able to pick this thing up as a stupid toy for a drastically reduced price. That's basically what the Palm phone boils down to. It's a pointless toy, with no practical usage other than as a comedy prop.

it's useless, has terrible battery live, and fails across the board, so you should..... wait for a price drop???

yeah atp mentioned the possible use case of "while you're charging your phone overnight, also lay your watch on it and charge both at once off one charger" which, sure, I'd use that like ~15-30 nights a year

When Google first showed off the controller in March, the company touted how you could seamlessly switch from gaming on your TV to a laptop or phone while using the same exact controller, without having to pair it to each device — because the controller would stay directly connected to Stadia’s servers over its own Wi-Fi.

Google recently added a disclaimer in a new Stadia explainer video that wireless play will only be available on Chromecast Ultra at launch, and a Google community manager on Reddit later confirmed that meant you’ll need to break out the USB-C cables for other devices — perhaps because Bluetooth also won’t be an option by launch.

Transforming [the Galaxy Z Flip] from a somewhat thick but very pocketable 3-inch square to a 6.7-inch full-screen smartphone is both nostalgic and futuristic, conjuring memories of the Nokia 2720 or the Motorola razr while simultaneously offering a truly postmodern smartphone experience.
