It's more medium-length but I liked this article by Jon Ronson about bespoke porn: https://www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/2014/may/01/scanner-ebook-arms-anus-optical-character-recognition

Ready! Set! Blow! posted:The Story of the Ducktales Theme Music Instantly earwormed. Those Polish kids playing it on the guitar, amazing. Also how is 'd-d-d-danger lurks behind you' not everyone's favourite bit?

Arsenic Lupin posted:(PDF)NTSB report on investigation of the Florida pedestrian bridge that collapsed. Do not miss the section on a back-of-the-envelope calculation the architects should have made that is displayed against the back of an envelope. This is an absolutely infuriating read.

Tunicate posted:Georg Elser was just some working class schmuck who realized 'Hitler's evil as gently caress, someone's gotta kill him'. So he found out when Hitler was gonna be in town giving a speech, and spent a month sneaking into the convention hall, hollowing out the pillar next to the podium, and filling it with stolen explosives. 'When taken to the border control post and asked to empty his pockets he was found to be carrying wire cutters, numerous notes and sketches pertaining to explosive devices, firing pins and a blank colour postcard of the interior of the Bürgerbräukeller.' Silly bastard.

Halloween Jack posted:It makes my blood boil and my stomach churn. I've been in the position of having to get between an abusive mother and her daughter and I'm proud to have done it. And they not only failed to do the ethical bare minimum but went on a bizarre campaign to assassinate the character of, basically, a helpless orphan on behalf of her abuser. It read to me as a takedown of exactly those procedures, showing in detail how sickening their behaviour was.

i!ii!!iii!!!ii!!i! posted:https://www.propublica.org/article/muscular-dystrophy-patient-olympic-medalist-same-genetic-mutation This was fascinating. I have a single-error genetic disorder and got my DNA sequenced last year by the eye hospital I attend. Found out that my issue is recessive so unlikely to be inherited so that's nice to know! And I wouldn't have found that out if not for their research.

Not all that long and I have no idea if it's of interest to anyone else. But you ever wonder how many baseballs get used in an MLB game? https://theathletic.com/3325753/2022/05/26/guardians-tigers-baseballs-used/ It's around 100-120 per game
