I started watching Twin Peaks for the first time properly just recently. I'm an episode away from the end of season 1 and am really liking it, then I saw that season 2 is 20+ episodes and according to the OP the middle third are "mad sketchy" so I doubt I'm gonna get through them in a rush

Just finished season 2... Cooper! Just Fire Walk With Me to go and I can start the new episodes. It's been a week and a half since they started airing the new episodes, I think I may be the person who has waited the longest in history before being able to see new Twin Peaks. Almost two weeks between season 2 and season 3? Horrifying.

I loved it, as an exploration of Laura's descent as a result of her victimization it's pretty incredible and the ending is outstanding. Some of the peripheral parts don't quite work, in particular I didn't really enjoy the opening section with Chris Isaak and Kiefer Sutherland, but once it returns to Twin Peaks and focuses in on Laura it becomes pretty goddamn amazing. I loved Leland too, those rare moments of clarity where he can see how monstrous he has become, which in turn has let Bob in. I guess it's time to watch the new season now!

First episode of the new season is amazing, even with all the different locations and the clear passage of time it's like it is just flowing smoothly on from the end of season 2/FWWM

eSporks posted:This is reaching now, but the green light that signaled the liar is different then the lodge lights that signaled the jackpots. Green could represent Dougies coat and coop tapping into Dougies memories. I actually wondered if that was just a visual representation for us of Agent Cooper's ability to read people swimming back up to the surface, if only momentarily. The first season of Twin Peaks was pretty good about showing that Coop could instantly tell if somebody was lying or telling the truth, he dismisses the idea of James or Bobby as Laura Palmer's killer almost immediately after meeting them.

I was just reminded of that scene where Cooper takes James aside and quietly tells him (paraphrased),"James, please stop ending up framed for various crimes because you tried to solve a crime yourself instead of just coming to us with the information...."

I should be frustrated that Coop hasn't emerged yet, but Dougie is just so fascinating to watch. Tirranek posted:People say Cooper is all Dougied up because he was in the lodge for a long time, but wasn't he fine until being sucked through a plug socket? Yep, he was still somewhat passive but I figure 25+ years waiting around in the Black Lodge were to explain for that - you gotta learn patience and he was already a pretty patient/zen dude to begin with. He seemed to mostly be like the old Coop as he made his way out of the lodge through the glass box and then into the "space ship". It's only after he gets sucked through the plug and switches places with Dougie that he seemed to be turned blank.

The lodge has always seemed to exist outside of time and space (Laura dreams about telling Coop who killed her, and writes about it in her diary BEFORE she dies, for example) so I just figured it was as simple as Coop was seeing what was always going to be the next machine to jackpot, as opposed to the lodge actually MAKING them jackpot, if that makes any sense.

Can I just say how happy I am that the last time we saw Leo (apart from Fire Walk With Me which was set in the past) was a cutaway gag to him tied up underneath that spider in the forest, after Bobby said,"He's probably partying out in the forest!" - I honestly hope we never hear anything else about what happened to him after that, it was loving hilarious.

Ingmar terdman posted:I think everyone may want to curb their expectations on Coop "coming back" and what that will actually be like. Even if he snaps to in the next episode, is 100% "there" mentally, etc. he's still going to have frozen caveman syndrome with the world in general. It would be surprising if he was reintegrated into the FBI as a full special agent or whatever. A crazy assassin dude with his face has been wreaking havoc for decades. And he will most likely be a changed man from his time in limbo. I dunno, I could easily eat my words on this -because who can even pretend to predict what Lynch will do - but I don't think the returning Coop is going to be the same chipper guy throwing rocks and bottles and going on about trees he was. I don't think he's going to jump in and take the lead on the South Dakota murder case. Cooper becomes the new Sheriff of Twin Peaks Name even one person who is cooler than Kyle MacLachl- el oso posted:Unsurprisingly, Lynch killed Showtime's plans for a big marketing campaign using footage from S3. This in particular really hosed with me, I've dreamed of a place/feeling like this before and it was horrifying.
