I've run dry exactly once, and it was on an ice planet so I could poo poo out more missiles than usual, and my last missile salvo destroyed the last battlemech on the field.

That would be the best choice but it'd be a mammoth task depending on which ref books they include in he rework. Just for 3025 they could do a good half dozen campaign modules for various houses and conflicts. Then they could move on to 3028 and so on down the line of ref books. If they're smart they can put off touching the silly stuff from 3050 onwards for quite a long time. Enough time to work out how to do it in a reasonable manner.

That's true but then TT players are/were a pretty spergy bunch of cunts as a whole (and I include myself in that, hopefully down the more human end of the spectrum). I remember one match the clan dudes lost the map picks and the IS team were running them round with the picked target poo poo. So clan team declares that since the opposition is a merc unit they are dishonourable scum, ergo they can just be kerb stomped. That said, I've seen Kurita units try the same BS (I was part of a Liao merc unit and we played dirty) more than once. "Honour" is fine when it's an advantage apparently but they don't like it being used against them.
TT Cons were pretty amazing to be honest. 4 days sleeping on the floor between being woken to fight when the guys at the big board moved things into your map. Nipping out for a drink and food between movements. The looks of disgust when you plonk down an unpainted, badly glued together figurine from the hardcore RPs. Fist fights over rules interpretation. Even those generally didn't get anyone sent home. Screaming obscenities and swiping your hand across the board - that definitely does the trick though.

Now if HBS would just add co-op mode or large scale integrated scuffles.

I played Warhammer tt and this sounds way radder lol

Did I just gently caress myself over and instantly lose the campaign by beating Weldry with a light/medium lance? How is this possible?

I did it on the second try with 2 mediums (AC 20 cent and AC 5 blackjack) and 2 lights (laser jenner and LRM panther) and I'm pretty bad at games so it's definitely possible.

I'm sure the mission is fine but my lance of failures can barely do 1 to 1.5 skulls. I just can't deal with being outnumbered by heavier mechs 2 to 1 right now and the difficulty ramp up will end things. As it is I'm savescumming if a contract deploys reinforcements instantly.

The srm carriers all had max front chest armor and bulwark so I’d just sprint them to the bottom of the ramp and tank for days. The HBK did work on heavy dudes, but SRMs are king of the low weight classes.

I’ve had one mech cored and 0 losses even when out-weighed. It’s all about being super aggressive sprinting your bulwark mechs up early to prime locations then keeping them there as turrets while your other mechs move up and shoot. At low tonnages you won’t find anything better than SRMs for damage/weight considering lasers require heat sinks and SRMs will at least get SOME damage in. Then just use the lrm boat to crit seek.

So far I'm using a BJ with 2 AC/5s, Vindicator which is mostly stock but upgraded parts and removed a bit to uparmor it, a Centurion which is barfing missiles everywhere, and a Shadowhawk I switched to close range combat. I'm jumping them around trying to flank or take advantage of openings but it's not really working.

Maybe I'll switch to SRMs on the Centurion to help out the Shadowhawk, and definitely retire the BJ once I get anything else.

this is the question we probably should have asked earlier, i can't think of a single mission where i've been outnumbered by heavier mechs but if he's piloting his initial four mechs on two skulls i think i can see where it might get a little tricky

It's a lot of starter stuff yeah, I just haven't gotten the salvage to piece more together. The 10v4s are just always going to withdraw or reload though. :v:

I'm pretty comfortable sticking to 1.5 skulls max until I get a heavy or two now though. I can fairly consistently handle that until the reinforcements instant spawn.

60 and 80-ton vehicles are your primary targets when they appear on sensors. More than anything else. More than a King Crab, even. Pull back immediately, Sensor Lock, and drill it with LRMs.

Also I'm fairly sure that if that SRM Carrier shot you from long range, then it was an LRM Carrier.

They're also a thing.

It had the letter "s" and had even had Arano pop up and say "hey don't get shot by these SRM Carriers" the turn the drove up and hosed Behemoth up. Not that it mattered I ended up losing the old fashioned way - by trying to drive my baby mediums around all the heavies they have no hope of defeating even with the turrets that already blew up, running into an invisible wall, and running out of time because I didn't see the little orange line and thought I was being clever by using the dropships as cover. :v:

You can fit a ~40 LRM salvo and enough ammo (4-6) with enough space left for four JJs and some paper-thin armour. You're keeping it behind a rock well back from the fight anyway, so you don't need much.

Oh, Panzyr.

Stick someone with Evasive Movement and Piloting 6, if at all possible, in the Shadow Hawk. Completely max out its armour everywhere except a little less on the back, add max JJs, three Heatsinks, an MLas, an SLas, three SRM4s and one SRM ammo. Like this:

Make sure your other mechs have long-range options: AC/5s and 10s, LLas, PPCs, and LRMs - they'll get a workout this battle. Hell, make all of your mechs full-armour snipers. You now know where the carriers are, so your job is to kill both of them before they take a turn! Sensor Lock the first one, get vision on the other with a mech firing on the first, and blow them both to hell. Or, Sensor Lock and kill one from a distance, making sure to stay the loving gently caress away from the other one until next turn. If the SRM Carriers are shooting at you from fog of war, that's a bug. Take screenshots and report it. Also, show us!

As soon as the turrets are online, you're going to start booking it with the Shadow Hawk. Either go on top of the little peninsula, or through the forest, whichever looks safer with the mechs you can see. Jump max distance, then Brace, towards the area with the enclosed walls. Additionally, sprint/jump your other mechs towards the path leading down into the base - you'll be more or less camping up here with them. The faster your mechs get close to the other mechs, the faster they'll swich targets to them. Between your tanky mechs and the turrets, very few mechs will want to fire at your Hawk.

I've done this mission twice now, succeeding both times. First time I blew the building with four turns left, the second with three turns left. Both times, it was with a Shadow Hawk. Both times, the turrets stuck around and did a great job.

Also, by Panzyr, you really should have a heavy mech. Do more Battle/Assassination missions in and around Weldry until you get a Thunderbolt or Orion or something.

All my mechs had long range options. No one's past 5 or 6 in a skill but that's fine. The SRMs blew them off one mech so it was useless except as a meatshield (they weren't from fog b ut I didn't know they were carriers because they were in fog, though I don't know why no one could shoot them on an open road). After reloading I rushed two on the main road with the lrm boat as cover. The hawk just barely made it and took the control center out; it lost both of its arms as the price. The Blackjack took a few mechs out but finally lost its arms as well, the pilot ejected. The first crippled mech finally ejected with the lrm boat because it was too slow to make it.

I beat the mission with no deaths, three wounded warriors, and three hosed up mechs. I lost most of my good gear but that's fine, I can recover. I have nothing in reserve but I do have money to burn so I can wait it out. Sorry I forgot to take screenshots I was clenching the whole last half hour. I beat it with three rounds to go, now that I drove down the road and didn't try to rappel down the cliff. :v:

I have eight heavies at 1/3. Ol' MechCOM has been having a bad time. No salvage this mission either because the heavies survived; I just hauled rear end and ran. I got a second Trebuchet part and a whole Panther though!

I'm finding the game really frustrating (because I've played too much XCOM I think) but super fun.
