I finished the Live demo, if it were 20 bucks I'd buy it I think but man, the gameplay is pretttttyy weak. Feels like 2K did years ago, kinda sluggish and you get locked into a lot of animations and stuff. It's a shame because I think a lot of the other stuff they've done is pretty cool in terms of game structure and how cosmetics and stuff work, but the weak gameplay just ruins all that. Glumslinger you and your gang better have made upgrading your player's stats and dressing him up like a moron seperate currencies this year. That poo poo has been pissing me off for years. I want to dress up like a clown AND upgrade my player, I shouldn't have to have to decide between two ticks of 3 point shooting or a stupid looking hat or whatever.

I really like a lot of the stuff around the gameplay and the Ui and controls and stuff feel solid and I would totally give it a buy if it was just a bit more responsive. I'm interested to see if they do an ultimate team like game mode, and what the rest of the career mode looks like. Also laughed at them putting Chris Smoove (the nba 2k youtuber) into the game for one of the challenges considering he's probably gonna poo poo all over this game once its out.

they really really need to do some drastic work on myteam, it's not even close to as good as madden or fifa's ultimate teams are now. Boring grind, bad rewards, unreliable multiplayer.

It reminds me a lot of 2k of years past, but those are all issues they've fixed to a large degree in 2k for a while now. I hope it doesn't sink without a hope like 16 did, but the on court part of the game needs loads and loads of work.

Also I know this makes me a loving idiot but I really like the idea of getting cosmetics from crates, especially with the system they had. They were constantly affordable, and you could guarantee getting all items in a given crate since it was impossible to get duplicates. e: and MOST IMPORTANTLY buying crates/cosmetics didn't interfere with player progression at all. If they come out and say "hey we made gameplay a lot more responsive in the day 1 patch" i'd be sorely temped.

And now at the end of the game's cycle I have a team that is pretty close to as good as you can possibly make it and I spent zero dollars. If Live even has an ultimate team mode (which I'm not sure if they do??) it'll be interesting to see where they go with it. Madden is also pretty rewarding for the zero money spent player, if a lot more of a grind to get to the real top level stuff. If 2k trots out the same old progression in Mycareer and Myteam I just don't know anymore.

Im still gonna buy it because I'm a loving idiot, but it looks like you still have to make the dumb choice between upgrading looks and upgrading skills with one currency, and all this walking around poo poo is cool in theory but its really just gonna mean everything takes 5 times as long as it already did. Now not only do you have to go through a cutscene to enter a game, you have to walk around town and enter a cutscene to go to the gym, to go to the park, to buy some clothes!!! great.

Also 99 almost certainly won't mean some kind of godlike all around player, it'll just mean the maximum possible stats for the archetype you pick. Another thing, in the past loading into the park and proam has been insanely laggy and often hosed up, especially on PC, so I'm sure that this new much bigger more involved thing that the entire population of the game is using will work really well.

I feel like instead of turning the menus into stupid pointless walking around poo poo they should have ironed out things that matter like making the lining up for events and stuff way better. Watching this guy try and get on a spot for some event and its just as weird and laggy/buggy as it always has been. I'd really like to know if the story/interactivity of the career is interesting/better, or whether it's the same sort of vague pointless cutscene every few games that doesn't mean anything. Like I'm totally making GBS threads on the game right now but it's because I have zero doubt that the gameplay part of the game will be incredibly solid, so this other stuff really makes or breaks the game for me.

I think they've improved it in a lot of important but relatively small ways, pick and roll play is better in general and in terms of defending specifically, and help defense isn't a 100% binary borderline idiotic yes/no thing where a guy will abandon the player he's guarding no matter the circumstance, etc.

I meant to get into pro am and stuff in 2k17 but mycareer was especially busted with the broken help defense and constant, instant double teaming the minute you had like two "decent" games in a row and then fifa weekend league took over my gaming life.

I played a 6'11 Rebounding/Slashing PF and it felt pretty good even with low ratings. I was able to make a pretty big impact on both ends, and was able to get in some pretty satisfying dunks on my defenders in the post in a way that the game has really struggled with in previous years.

Enjoying mycareer quite a bit, playing a big man is very fun so far. VC rewards are pretty stingy and it doesn't look like there's a boost for turning up the difficulty anymore that I can see? Also boy holy poo poo gently caress does everything cost a ton of VC, and lots of stuff isn't even the "buy it once and you can switch back to it for free whenever" thing, like haircuts for instance. Also there are a LOT of people running around at 85 OVR already, which costs 180k VC or so, so people are spending an insane amount like usual.
