I’m playing the first Warhammer as the Greenskins. How exactly does Vindictive Glare work? I’ve been using it as a way to deal with dwarf lords, but it doesn’t seem that effective. It also doesn’t seem to work when I have a mob already encircling the lords; I mostly see my guys flying around rather than any damage dealt to the dwarf. Should I be using it in a different manner?

Also, for a map that is entirely made up, and thus could be made to look like anything, CA did not do a ton to vary terrain between the large swathes of badlands followed by never-ending northern mountains. A little variation would’ve made for more interesting games.
Vindictive Glare fires an actual projectile where the people it hits are the ones it does damage to. If the enemy lord's being mobbed by your guys and you fire the projectile, you're just going to hit your own guys. Dwarves have inherent magic resistance, and are also small enough that you might just be missing them.

anyone got any tips for beating chaos as skaven in multiplayer? it feels like no matter what i bring chosen and dragon ogres 1v10 my rats, even if i bring rat ogres they usually have some chosen with halbers who just own my life and then when im getting some decent flanks off kholek wanders over, empties out a trash can, and puts my lord in it

Yeah thanks for the advice all. I've been gunshy about using globadiers because its easy for forsaken or whatever to just mulch through the frontline and get to them, but at the same time its not like another unit of stormvermin is gonna stand up to forsaken any better.

Is there any scenario where you don't take Skrolk in multiplayer? Queek for dwarves?
in theory i could see queek for dwarves but in practice you take skrolk for everything, yeah, you want a caster anyway and its not like queek is kholek or noctilus or something, you arent suddenly gaining some melee powerhouse if you bring queek out, dude still dies easily and cant stand up to most other melee lords even if he does a bit better against high tier infantry

and i dont even know what tretch is supposed to be good for. beastmen maybe?

give greenskins a mechanic where when they retreat but dont get pushed off the map, a dozen or so guys come out and join the unit, to represent htem running away, talking aobut how there's a big fight, and then coming back to the fight

Nippon being in the game would be really funny just because of shogun total war, but also theyll probably never acknowledge Nippon again.

that's the fun part. besides, if you're playing with a friend who isn't an rear end in a top hat they'll probably go at least a little easy on you if their army has some insane shtick.

Yeah ranged stacking is good in campaign because it minimizes your losses, not because its the only option to win. Its iust a function of how campaign is designed.

Speaking of AI in game like this, coming from a bare minimum of coding experience, is it just like a giant bundle of if>then routines or is it something more sophisticated?
If its like most ai in games theres a degree of randomization on top of whatever decision making logic they use.

the deathblob issue is in every nongrog war game because none of them are brave enough to create systems reflecting how horribly ludicrously obnoxious and awful it is to get any large body of people to do drat anything at all. oh boy you can only march your giant army five miles a day because you have to move in a column on a poo poo road and by the time your dudes in the front have been going for six hours the people in the back have finally been able to start walking. oops time to eat whoops the river literally ran out of water and now everyone is loving dead

the saying is something like "an arrow is strongest at the start of its flight"; you could basically destroy an army by just staying back a bit and it would eventually collapse into total disorder.

but in games you just click all mans and roll them forwards and being a big faction with a lot of territory just means your soldier katamari is bigger instead of meaning you blow a decades worth of your gdp just trying to get your dudes to deal with an angry band of street preachers

i like it when orcs hit other orcs

imagine a rat screaming endlessly as its buried under more and more paperwork relating to skrye weaponry parts acquisition. it claws pitifully, trying to keep its head above the tide. but you keep slowly pouring on more documents, this time about just in time shipping of warpstone caches along a march route. then you pour on cement. and you build a reasonably sized statue of a king, and there you have a park. where you have peace, and picnics, and discuss the comings and goings, but under you, the rat is still there. with the paper. and its screaming. screaming. just, endless, SCREAMING.

this game, could be yours. if you were only to dream of it.

For those of us that have been waiting for a sale since the summer, looks like most of the DLC is half off on steam.
Warhammer II itself is 20 bucks and Warhammer 1 is 15 bucks. Warhammer II is also having a free weekend. Great time to pick up stuff.

Relatedly, do you need Warhammer 1 installed to pick up the free DLC for it?

I have heard otherwise from some, but yes I needed to have WH1 installed to get the FLC for it installed. Its a pain but worth it.
Actually, an update on this, I was able to get it by just starting a download for WH1, pausing it, and then adding the free DLC off of the Total War official site. Everything worked fine without actually downloading the game beyond 0.001 mb, and I removed the game from my download queue on steam after and it all still worked fine. Good trick if you have a data cap or low storage space on your computer.

Hammerers are really good if you're fighting other Dwarfs, but that's vanishingly unlikely to happen by the time you can even get Hammerers in a campaign.

infantry is fine, useful, and balanced in multiplayer. single player will never be balanced and you can win by spamming infantry if you want because the ai sucks, unless you're playing hard but why would you make it so that goblins are ironbreakers. the current situation is fine imo.

I think Halberd Grave Guard would fill a hole in their roster that they kinda need. Blood Knights and Terrorgheists can mulch cavalry but they cant really bog them down, plus they both lose fights to large units that are anti-large themselves.
