I mean, I'm a baby Marxist with a child's understanding of economics but the CPCs role always struck me as a midwife for the SEA Capitalist mode of production era. They saw what happened to the USSR and determined the conditions for a strict state economy didn't exist. Hope it works out!

Admittedly the 1950s were when the geopolitical competition of the Cold War was the highest and really the detente period only ended after the Cuban Missile crisis, but also at the same time the Soviet Union was still a considerably weaker power than the US in economic terms.

This time around, China has the economic base the Soviet Union never had and we are now in new territory.

So we'll be on the losing side of a Franco-Prussian war redux when Sun King Baron Trump declares war on Super China in 2040. Hopefully I can pick up Mandarin before then lol

To the USN's credit, they know that controlling trade routes is their true mission. Since Perry opened Japan in the 19th century, the USN's pacific fleet has been capital's enforcer in the region.

I think Mearsheimer has a pretty good handle on how to interpret and predict the actions of the US, and by proxy the West in general. What I don't get is his insistence on mapping his theories 1 to 1 onto China. I've had his book on the Israel lobby on my reading list for a while, might have to dip into it soon.

edit: is Mearsheimer considered a DC insider? His attitude in that is video is annoying af
