The online characters they've shown so far look a lot more lacking in character than the singleplayer characters. They seem to cut to one in the gameplay trailer, and it's jarring.

Rumor is the GTA Online system is back.

The only glimpse we can be certain that we have of possible RDR Online character models are the images of the online preorder bonuses.

Everything else, every rumor, is just redditor/GTA Forums speculation and worth nothing. We only know when we know.

Except that's not really true.

We know a lot of the leaks including the leaked map are some variation of the map were real because they were later verified. I mean you're right in the sense that the leaks and rumors shouldn't be considered binding absolutes, things change. But we do have information that is at least credible outside of the officially released info.

The entire map has been verified? Can you link that to me please?

Tercio

And that thread equals verification? Like official word?

Tercio

Funso Banjo posted:

No.

There has been no official word. The map itself is based on one from Trusted Reviews, but about 2 fifths of it are imagined additions to that one, and the original it is based on isn't 100% for sure real.

The bottom left bit, from Thieves Landing down, is completely speculation. We think you'll revisit Armadillo, and one or two other places in the previous game, and some people have read that to mean the entire previous game's landscape is in this new game. Someone is stretching with this map to imagine how that would look. It could very easily be that those older sections are just for cutscenes, or more likely used in the same way GTA 5 has a map for the prelogue that then never shows up again and isn't reachable.

There is some real wishful thinking in that thread. With people being certain that the map is going to be way larger than GTA V's map, for example. Which is pretty much ridiculous and not even slightly feasible.

Thanks! Your reply was basically what I was getting at.

Nothing is confirmed, everything is speculation until it comes from Rockstar or a journalist with direct access to the game.

Red Bull RDR2 Preview

A couple of things stood out to me; some of the waterways sound like they can be pretty busy with canoes and paddle steamers (which I’m hoping you can board) and that your horse can swim, but if it runs out of stamina it drowns.

This is by far the best preview I've read.

Rockstar's marketing has been perfect for drumming up interest and creating hype. However, the lack of concrete information about the game and its various systems has left the ground wide open for speculation. The hype for this game, combined with this hog wild speculative environment, is going to make for a lot of players bitching about this game not living up to their expectations post release. The tears harvest will be enormous.

I think RDR was one of the most incredible games I ever played -- at the time. I haven't gone back and I'm not sure I want to, because I'm willing to bet it really, really doesn't hold up as well as it does in my mind.

Eight years ago it completely took me out of the moment. It was jarring. Listening to the song now, and considering the lyrics, ok - it makes some sense and carries some poignancy. At that moment I had no loving clue what I was listening to and wanted to go back to the world's own ambiance.
