Now that we're up to date on It's Always Sunny, I'm introducing my girlfriend to Arrested Development.

Last night we watched the second episode, where GOB attempts to return the dead dove.

Today she complained to me that she had purchased the wrong thickness pen and now after writing a bunch of notes with it, feels entitled to return it for a full refund. Oh, she refused a receipt.

She really didn't get it when I suggested she take it back to the store in a brown paper bag that said "Dead Dove: Do Not Eat"

You should just restart the series. Sunny over and over never gets old.

You're not wrong. It's SO much better watching it with someone who is as into it as you. So many times we have to pause it because we're dying of laughter.

The most recent episode, Time's Up. OH MY GOD.

Good work you. You handled that like a champ Fermented Tinal.

I'm a few months in. I still slip up every now and then. The important thing for me is to see that slip as a one off, not backslide and just keep on. So far so good.

It's been many years since I was even in the country, let alone needed ACC but it's not too bad. When I was a student I got drunk, fell off a McDonalds and broke my wrist. ACC paid 80% of my income until I was ready to return to work.

Not to say we don't have some issues. Want an abortion? Be prepared to get TWO doctors to sign off on it. There are a few lovely laws like this one on the books. The usual underfunding of mental health services and of course not paying teachers, nurses and other necessary people what they're worth.

god house chat is terrifying. My girlfriend has got a serious boner for buying a house ASAP and I'm just following along behind with my barely-minimum-wage earnings. Sure I'd rather dump whatever money I have spare into her mortgage rather than some boomer slumlord. I just don't think she appreciates the costs that come with maintaining a house, particularly the older places she's looking at. It'd be awesome to have a garage and a bit of grass to put the bbq on but you just know every drat thing in the house is going to need replacing and be made of asbestos.

I couldn’t afford to live any closer to the city- we paid $172K for our 890m2 block of land. Go 15 mins closer to the freeway at Mt Barker and the same sized block of land is $320K

Where's the crying Melbourne Tram? :australia:

This is the sort of thing she's looking at and thinking is just amazing.

This is solid advice. I won’t be doing any of the owning. I’ll be paying a fair share of the rent. If we get married, that’s great. If not, we’ll I would have been paying that money anyways.

there was a decent post I saw on reddit (shocking, I know) that broke down how bad a big windfall is for most people and how to avoid some of those big pitfalls. Staying anonymous is a huge thing, as well as finding a lawyer from a big firm you've never had any contact with. Put all of the money into trusts, help those close to you but ONLY through a specific trust, don't listen to anyone's investment advice.

Personally I don't get people who say they'd go back to work. I've never had any job I've enjoyed enough for that to be an option. My idea of a good time is just travelling the world. Go see anything and everything. Also probably a 20 car garage with so many cars that are not worth the money I've sunk into them :v:

I'd have the nicest AW11, Delta S4, MA60 Supra, Citroën DS and so many kei cars.

I had to fire my painter who is a long time friend of mine, working on my remodel project (who is surprised?). I think I did it well enough that we're still friends, and there's a couple things I'll still have him finish up, like the tub reglazing which I am happy with. Unfortunately I think he overestimated both his abilities and available time to work on this project. I suspected this some time ago but he assured me he'd be able to keep up.

I'll spare you the :gonk: pictures but some people just shouldn't work on finishing sheetrock. Trying to find a new contractor today, paint and finish work is pretty much the only thing I'm lacking.

I went and got some good quality meats from the local butcher to grind my own burgs. God I love a good burg. Then the shop was out of the good buns. Then something went wrong with my grinding.

My burg was extremely unsatisfactory. Oh well, chin up, drink some whisky, make a better burg next time.

I figured out what I did wrong with my burgs! I assembled the grinder incorrectly  I forgot the little spinning swastika blade thingy. What a dummy!

Sadly for the rest of the weekend I’m dealing with a bunch of blotto middle aged women at a gin convention so I won’t get the chance to burg again until Monday.

I’ve got 700gm chuck, 300gm sirloin/porterhouse and 200gm brisket. Should make for a tasty combo. Also picked up some whiskey pickles. What makes them whiskey pickles? NFI but they look fancy!

tetrapyloctomy posted:

We ended up starting sleep training a week or so back, and it has been great. First few nights were rough, but now he goes to sleep within a few minutes. We wake him up once to eat in the middle of the night (haven't started cutting back on that yet since he's been sick and his congestion makes it hard for him to eat as much through the day), but it is so much better than him waking up every few hours. In a nutshell, he gets fed, then gets his little sleep routine (I read him a book and sing him a song), and then he goes in the crib. If he's still screaming/crying five minutes later, one person goes in the talk to him quietly for no more then thirty seconds or so -- no picking up. Then you leave. If he's still screaming/crying ten minutes later, you go back in for thirty more seconds. If he's still screaming/crying fifteen minutes later, you go back in for thirty more seconds. And you repeat the last fifteen-minute step until he finally goes to bed. Apparently on average the first night takes up to an hour or so, which is about where we were. He rapidly decreased that time and now it's no problemo, we generally don't have to go back in.

There are more subtleties to it (you have to track when he wakes up to feed and for how long he feeds, and then go set up a schedule where you go in one hour before he generally wakes himself up to eat, and slowly decrease those feeding times), but that's the general framework. Thank god it worked, nights were getting miserable.

this sounds exactly like what my brother and sister-in-law have been doing, with similar great results. To be fair whenever I look after the kiddo he's so exhausted he's just done and out immediately :v:

If anyone ever says to you, "let's go to a gin convention!" just loving :sever:

I've dealt with a lot of drunk people in my life, but that was too many, for too long.
