All while plowing ahead with repeal attempts and sabotaging pieces of it once they realized they couldn't easily con their base on that point. The idea is that when she has to deal with the next election people will either vote against their own interests because of a multi-year haze of bullshit that has them saying "Huh, but there's something untrustworthy about her!" from a multitude of Edit: poo poo, this is exactly the same trick the same sort of people would pull on climate change scientists for about 50 years now. In fact, going off climate change's history of fighting a never ending line up of corrupt denialists it isn't even as far as things can escalate. From what I vaguely recall of my history at one point the Republicans were at one point threatening to lock up some of the most prominent scientists in the field at the time for daring to tell the truth about how bad things were going to get during a congressional investigation. This was then used years down the line by some denialists to justify how crazy and corrupt the climate change scientists trying to fix things were once those events had faded from the public consciousness and progress was starting to be made to hopefully fix the issue in the future. As a side note, Aetna tried similar poo poo in many states after the ACA was put into law. They'd sign on to be a healthcare/medicare provider and then opt out of paying for just about anything. essentially defrauding the system. Sometimes outright illegally so. All while whining about how it was unfair that they couldn't maintain their profit margins thanks to the ACA and doing everything they could to slander it and any politicians or organizations that caught them in the act. Incidentally, Aetna was forcibly taken off the market for at least a bit in a few states. Mine included, at the time. So at least the ACA accomplished something. Keep in mind the aforementioned spillage of horrifying kiddie porn occurred in full view of anyone that owned the Apple Store version of Tumblr's app. Meaning that Apple promptly lost it's poo poo and proceeded to ban the Tumblr app from their platform. Since who the gently caress wants the stigma of that on their platform? Heck, part of the agreement that Apple has with software developers is that if you have a social media element in your app that sort of thing cannot be permitted on your platform. So Tumblr had to of known they were ignoring a fairly huge issue and were just gambling that no one would ever call them on their behavior. Instead of dealing with this in a rational and sane way by taking responsibility for their gently caress ups and getting the kiddie porn off of the platform once and for all the company executives at Tumblr are pretty much burning the entire platform to the ground in favor of...Well, I don't even know. Maybe they're hoping it becomes the next Gab? But him losing to Cruz when the voting machines will literally reassign your vote to Republican if you vote straight Democrat probably caught more than a few people in the year when there was a huge D turnout. The issues with their voting machines are basically built to foil surprise D turnouts like that since a good chunk of the state reliably votes R but not always straight ticket. Right now they're doing everything they can to destabilize the EU and US by helping far right authoritarian types get into power. It's not just going to be an empty "if/or" binary where one side wins and nothing else happens. There's going to be consequences, and the current policy is going to affect things going forwards. And that's not even getting into what it'd do for the rights of people all across the world to have either of those two powers calling the shots in the background.

Y'know, the funny thing is that he might actually believe there's a ton of illegal immigrants (Though it's obvious he and the Republicans are going after legal immigrants too given past actions.) flooding the country. Fox News periodically ranted about it among a bunch of other made up conspiracy theories before the election and his excuse for losing the popular vote was that 3 million illegal immigrants voted. I think he even started a rant on it on Twitter or something after Fox News did another segment on immigration. It's possible the reason he won't drop the wall (because let's face it. He doesn't give a poo poo about his constituency beyond what they can do for him.) is because of all that Fox News binging convincing him that the only reason he didn't get the majority of the vote is because of all those south americans he thinks are flooding the border. It's the sort of thing his ego would absolutely not let go. Because admitting that people actually loving loathe him would be a blow to the narcissistic blowhard's ego. Edit: Also, Larry Hogan is loving terrible. He refused to sign any bills regarding LGBT health or rights even after they were voted in by the legislature and basically is trying to act like he's Republican-lite by avoiding doing anything at all to piss off the Democrats that would vote him out if they had an excuse to be outraged at him. The end result is that he won't do the typically horrifically Republican things to gently caress over the populace and won't do anything to help the populace. So all we get is yet another lovely Republican/Republican masquerading as a Democrat quietly doing whatever he can to pillage the state so they can blame it on the Democrats down the line to try and take control of the state. Basically everyone I know is apathetic about him except when he does something stupid that'll gently caress the state down the line like considering lowering our taxes again. At which point he suddenly gets a popularity boost as Boomers magically forget that all of his negative points. And, as mentioned he's kind of a loving bigot. He just knows that he can't openly say that poo poo out loud in Maryland until he manages to demolish the infrastructure further and people get desperate for someone to blame for things going down the drain.
