Which yeah means that absolutely no one believes his weirdo EVERYTHING IS COMING UP TRUMP! EVERYTIME! IT'S AMAAAZING! MY ENEMIES LOSE AGAIN! WOW! thing.

some states (used to? maybe they were phased out) have their ebt cards be just one or two solid bright colors like orange and yellow on both sides, to make them "readily identifiable to checkout staff" and certainly weren't an attempt to publicly shame their users

I’m sure shame has a fair bit to do with it, but they *do* actually need to be readily identifiable to cashiers because EBT cards have specific rules regarding what they can/cannot be used to buy, and for a lot of stores the threat of having your ability to accept EBT suspended is a very real one

I guess in theory the SOTU response doesn't have to be political suicide but as long as whoever is doing it sticks to the formula of giving any airtime to the stuff they liked about it instead of using it as a platform to hollar about the numerous crimes and moral failings of the president it will remain so

yeah, I think there's a real correlation/causation thing going on here where the incompetent establishment of both parties keeps putting up their most implosion-prone stuffed suits because they think exposure will be elevate them in the eyes of the public rather than provoke distaste

so I'm not overthinking it when I'm assuming all of the "bbbbut Venezuela" talk in response to wealth taxes other semi-socialist ideas is also designed to get the general public more comfortable with inevitable military action, right?

I mean maybe, but its also the most convenient/relevant boogieman since its a socialist state that has been experiencing a legit humanitarian crisis for several years and has abandoned pretense of democratic control due to fuckups by its leadership - if you want to point to something and say "see, socialism doesn't work, technocratic neoliberalism is still the way things have gotta be" in a facile manner there's really nothing better

of course that relies on people ignoring the problems of the prevailing economic order (which they're increasingly unwilling to do) and not having any understanding of Venezuela's issues, which have lot more parallels with our own societies issues than people generally want to acknowledge (i.e. its a wreck because the country has been run for the private benefit of a connected, unaccountable, and incompetent elite who care little for the general welfare and routinely underinvest in infrastructures/society as a whole while they strip-mine the place - Venezuela just didn't start from nearly as good a place as the US, and they're a resource extracting petro-state rather than a diversified economy)

not as good, but a dude in my guild ceded veto/decision-making power on the name of his second child to his wife in exchange for a week of uninterrupted raid time

I think I gave myself a dare. It was the height of the Cold War. He was a weapons manufacturer, he was providing weapons for the Army, he was rich, he was an industrialist....I thought it would be fun to take the kind of character that nobody would like, none of our readers would like, and shove him down their throats and make them like him....And he became very popular.[7]
