Because it was about a lot more than NGU for a very long time. Nothing else has been there to compete, the surge of new games was one of the reasons for making a new thread, which is the same reason the 2nd one was open when a bunch of new games came out ending the rein on the Real Grinder thread.

I mean most of my posts were about realm grinder, I guess.

I never got the UI hate for it but I also didn't play before the redesign

Everything's better with Plasmids (and some Phage). It's funny how the first run or two you're scrounging for everything, carefully balancing resources over expenditure (lookin' at you coal).

I've got like 760 plasmids and 90ish Phage and it's just, never assign farmers, build a million power plants who cares.

Still need to trade in space phase for iridium and such but soon even those will fall in line.

I find I do like two resets and then get tired of the game, then a week later I open it again. The midgame of needing a full load of knowledge for each of 70 researches, but it fills up in 2.5 minutes is pretty tedious though.

I also seem to always quit right after a prestige so when an update hits I need to build a whole goddamn civilization to see the content. Derp.

It seems like spending plasmids on crispr is a trap but I'm only on my third civ

Plasmid doesn't do anything at 500+Phage, you should never go below this. (I think it's actually 450+phage but rounding up to 500 makes math easier and you aren't going to spend that tightly anyway)

Yeah that's the most recent version aka stage three. The early game is all about hyper focusing single productions so turning off anything not needed in your specific building loop is essential. Later on you'll get upgrades and be able to create loops that are better at self-feeding.

i can't even figure out the building loop to get both sand and steam sustainable, or more annoyingly, how to upgrade the things that would help!

Look at the recipes that would have made it, and see what they require (check both ingredients which are spent to produce, and catalysts where you need the bar to be X high). Now look at those things and see if either a. it's all being sent to something else or b. it's not being produced itself (in which case repeat from the beginning).

Eventually you'll find a place where something you need is getting frittered away on something else you don't care about as much, so you shut off that recipe for a while.
