I think “whenever day becomes night or night becomes day” is hard to parse because it’s supposed to be read:

“Whenever

day becomes night

or

night becomes day”

But it’s easy to misread as the headache inducing:

“Whenever

day becomes night or night

becomes day”

It is not clear the word “or” starts a new condition – rather than modifying the one you’re reading – until you have read the whole phrase, and if you don’t realise that then “day becomes night or night” is a headfuck. I’ve no idea if that’s a resolvable issue in templating but that’s where I think the issue lies

🎵You know the day becomes the night

Obviously we don't have access to sales data but what sets are perceived to be big "popularity spikes" for Magic? Like for example it's always been my understanding that when Duels of the Planeswalkers/the 2010 core set came out it was a huge boost for the game.

Based on some cursory googling, battle for zendikar, ikoria rising, modern horizons 2 and kaldheim were also super high selling with MH2 possibly being the highest selling set of all time

Very cool. don't know how good it'll be but compared to other cards that force your opponents to have tokens like clackbridge troll or relic robber, this seems like a big step up.

2 for a 3/3 with a fairly minor downside and a good power seems great to me

So they're are several cards that state, if it is not day or night, then it becomes X.

What do we need to trigger the cycle to start, any day bound creature? Or something that starts the cycle?

Turn one, land, go, it doesn't become night immediately, since there is nothing that cares about it?

Yeah the day/night token card says if a card says it becomes day or night that’s when you start tracking it and it lasts the rest of the game. Until then it’s neither

I never really played with transform cards before, but I guess this means spells don't fizzle if their target transforms, right? So you can target a werewolf you control, have it flip into night mode, and it will keep the trample/attack boost/curiosity effect?

I would assume so, like it’s still the same permanent if it transforms. I know there’s cards released before with transform mechanics so there are probably rulings about it

712.14. When a transforming double-faced permanent transforms, it doesn’t become a new object. Any effects that applied to that permanent will continue to apply to it after it transforms.
Example: An effect gives Village Ironsmith (the front face of a transforming double-faced card) +2/+2 until end of turn and then Village Ironsmith transforms into Ironfang. Ironfang will continue to get +2/+2 until end of turn.

I can’t find any specific examples for spells targeting a transforming permanent but I assume it’s still considered the same target.
