:brexit:

This is it, the month where either Brexit happens, deal or no deal, or Johnson is forced to extend.

Join us for the rollercoaster, it won't be as pleasant as this:

John Brown posted:

Had I so interfered in behalf of the rich, the powerful, the intelligent, the so-called great, or in behalf of any of their friends, either father, mother, brother, sister, wife, or children, or any of that class, and suffered and sacrificed what I have in this interference, it would have been all right; and every man in this court would have deemed it an act worthy of reward rather than punishment.
Brown and a band of twenty-one attacked and occupied the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, on October 16, 1859

In The News :sax:
• In a speech outside 10 Downing Street, Boris Johnson states his opposition to calling a general election, and urges MPs not to vote for "another pointless delay" to Brexit.
• The government loses its majority in the House of Commons after Conservative MP Phillip Lee crosses the floor to join the Liberal Democrats.
• MPs opposed to a No-deal Brexit take control of House of Commons business by 328 votes to 301. Johnson responds by telling MPs he will now push for an October general election.
• Boris Johnson withdraws the whip from 21 Conservative MPs who voted against the government, including several former Cabinet Ministers and Father of The House, Ken Clarke, who had served as a Tory MP since 1970.
• A bill intended to block the possibility of the UK leaving the EU without a deal passes its first Commons vote by 329 to 300.
• All this happens within under a week, the rest of September is marked by Johnson losing 7 consecutive votes and a Supreme Court ruling.
• lmao
• Lib Dems also exist and Prince Andrew has denied his noncing.
• ??? days until Brexit.
• Planet's dyin' Cloud.

October had tremendous possibility. The summer's oppressive heat was a distant memory, and the golden leaves promised a world full of beautiful adventures. They made me believe in miracles.

I think a lot of young people were potentially left wing when I was 18 but either lacked the language to reify it (always against 'social norms' or 'the system' rather than 'capitalism') or they were the type of Blunkettist piss left that believed that paradise was just one more prohibition away and does anybody really need a grapefruit spoon or they were openly reacting against that and either smoked a lot of pot and didn't vote or probably write for Spiked Online now.

Social media, for all its ills, seems to have dragged a bunch of people who might be like that through their own contradictions.

Which I guess makes sense if you can only view human relationships through the lens of seething hatred from a distance rather than the idea that people might actually love one another or enjoy spending close time together.

How old was she? Éire or saying 'The Irish Republic' instead of 'Republic of Ireland' or anything that implies the legitimacy of the British claim on the North are things with some people, but it's not like RoI really implies The Republic of Some Bits of Ireland and not Other Never Surrender to Popes.

Isn't it all to do with the Constitution saying "the name of this country is Éire (or in English, Ireland)" because of Brits saying 'Southern Ireland' all the time, but then the 1948 act that clarified No Kings Ever said "this is the Republic of Ireland" but then some Brits use that to very clearly delineate between the island and the bit they still have so now some older people have, hem, troubles with that?

At least I know the best way to quickly find the nearest McDonalds.
