Sentient Data posted:Gotta add an extra $35k to the medical bill with medical coding shenanigans after all Exactly 10 months ago today, I slipped on a patch of black ice and broke my shoulder (proximal humerus fracture, several fragments). In the ER one of the first things I was asked was if I was on my way to work, which I was. Since this is in Germany, this meant that every expense, initial care, household help, operation and stay in hospital, doctor's visits, physiotherapy (still ongoing) and even taxi fees, were covered by the "Berufsgenossenschaft" my employer is a (mandatory) member of. Until now the only fees I had to pay were for some upgrades I chose in the hospital. The BG's main purpose is to get injured workers back into their jobs as fast as possible. This is in the employers' best interests, since they can't just fire and replace an injured worker here, and they also usually recognize the value of experience. If that is "socialist" health care, hell, hand me a red flag and I’ll sing the International for you.

I like to watch fabrication videos on YouTube—foundrywork, machining, etc. It's fascinating to see how modern factories still use processes like sand molding that are thousands of years old, and have been improved continually. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMBtpbhaQI0 And then... there's this guy, doing the exact same thing (and quite skillfully!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NAdyOPbOEg

Smiling Jack posted:Video evidence is weird. You almost always either need an admission "yeah that's me in the video", a witness "yes, I was there and I did a formal, court-approved identification procedure and that's him in the video" or absolutely picture-perfect quality where a jury is sure that's the defendant in the video and other independent evidence that the act took place. Considering deepfakes, that’s probably a good thing.
