Only tangentially related to DOOM: is there a good thing to use still for idling your games for card drops? I haven't payed any attention to cards really since they were worth some decent amount of nickels and dimes, beyond just selling a booster pack when I get it and occasionally making a badge (listen I needed that Katamari's King of All Cosmos background alright) Augmented Steam is telling me I got enough drops to offset like half the cost of the new DOOM though. How do I most efficiently get these Steam bux pennies?

Potentially dumb question, but should I play Journey with kb/m or will the experience be better with a controller? Also I'm glad the game has ultrawide support, even though it started up with stretched 1920x1080 at all low/medium settings for some reason, but it's pretty funny that it lists all the other corresponding aspect ratios in the menu but when it gets to 3440x1440 it just says [???]

ok I'll bite Strix: Streets of Rogue: seems like a neat roguelite mixed with a kinda open-y sim? Honestly as much as I love roguelites I might have skipped it because the graphics look like generic roguelite #232 at this point in time, but the review score is crazy high Iconoclasts: I'm mostly kinda just neutral on metriodvanias, but the brilliance of Hollow Knight has left me jonesing for more while waiting for Silksong. I get the feeling I'll just compare other metriodvanias unfairly to the masterpiece that is HK though. Disco Elysium: By all accounts this is awesome, and I believe it. I'm sure I'd find it to be an amazing game myself. But I feel from what I've seen that playing it will probably make me depressed, and god I really don't need that right now Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order: I've dumped more hours into Dark Souls 3 than any other game this past year, but I dunno if I want to do a modern star wars game with DS-lite mechanics and no multiplayer option, at least not for $30 right now Sea of Thieves: I'm not even sure how this got on my wishlist tbh. I like the idea of sailing around though, seems like some refreshing fun. But from what I've read previously this is only fun if you got people to play with? Which I don't really. Also its biggest negative is that it isn't on sale but I wanna go back to the really important chat: StrixNebulosa posted:If they don't keep remastering things until they get to Red Alert 2 I will riot Are they likely to do it anytime soon? I grew up with the C&C's as my core RTS experience so at some point I'm definitely grabbing the Remaster, but Red Alert 2 is one of my favorite games ever and honestly peak RTS for me. Like I've tried and I mostly just bounce off every other more modern RTS after a little while, even if I think they are good (although I can be really bad at them).

explosivo posted:Not sure if they're doing a remaster but CNCNet is a third party launcher for a few C&C games including RA2 that allows you to play it with other people pretty easily if you own the game. I have the complete edition on Origin and have been playing RA2 with a buddy the last few nights through this and it holds up much better as is than OG Red Alert/C&C. I love the remaster and was happy to buy it to support it but it really just made me realize how badly I wanted to play RA2 instead. Oh rad, pretty sure I do own it on Origin (but I've forgot about it because, well, Origin). Mordja posted:RA2's sprites and voxels scale to resolution already, so a remaster would pretty much have to also redo all the graphics to be that notable. Preferably by making it so that units don't have to be voxels*. Hopefully they can actually find the film RA2 was shot on so they won't actually need to upscale. But yeah, some UI tweaks would be nice, steam workshop support, and of course an official way to play online. One side effect of the remasters is that more people are playing the newer games online through the fanmade CnCNet, there are currently over 1000 on YR right now. I'd kill for some more resolution options though, even if they didn't change the graphics one bit. Red Alert 2 on my ultrawide sounds dope. Workshop/mod support would be amazing too. Actually come to think of it, does the C&C remaster have native 21:9 support? Can't believe I didn't think of that yet. McCoy Pauley posted:Fallen Order is a lot of fun, and while the DS-lite element is there, the way you get more skills that open up new parts of worlds you've already visited reminded me as much of Metroid as anything else. But it seems a near certainty this game will be like $20 or less by the fall, and since it's just SP, unless one was going to play it right now there's not much rush. Yeah, that confirms my thought process. I grew up with some Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, so adding a little DS to a modern one appealed to me when I've been really uninterested in whatever EA has done to Star Wars for a long while now. I'm sure I've got plenty of other games sitting in the backlog though (that I keep ignoring to go play roguelites), so I'll wait until this ones cheaper ultrafilter posted:Iconoclasts isn't really a metroidvania like Hollow Knight is. It's very plot-heavy and the gameplay tends to be pretty linear as a result. You do get to revisit previous areas, but that's not where the focus is. If you're worried about depression, though, this might be one to skip,. Ah, dang. Oh well then. Depression might have been a strong word to use, but it's more like with how the world is now I could really use more stuff that isn't a downer. I can take heavy themes and oppressive atmospheres just fine.

Shrecknet posted:played, loved and beat bolded games. I'm a big fan of SOME roguelikes, ones that go hard on being fun to play and beautiful (I'm a slut for polish) - Dead Cells, Rogue Legacy, Spelunky, Zigguraut are my jam. I marked Qud as "Not Interested" because I just can't get past the utterly abstracted ASCII art style. Action rogulite-wise, Hades and Risk of Rain 2 are awesome and two of the best in the genre to come out recently. They're both technically Early Access, but really near complete already and are both also only one update away from 1.0, I believe. Co-op in Risk of Rain is particularly fun, done it with some discord goons for fun times . And Hades is from Supergiant, there is a lot of gorgeous polish there already. It's an older game at this point but if you want a more traditional turn-based roguelike but actually need art assets instead of ASCII, Dungeons of Dredmor is plenty good and is pretty accessible. I haven't played either since they're on my wishlist, so take these next 2 with a grain of salt, but from what you described maybe Islanders (for short, quick drop-in gameplay) and Eastshade (by all accounts a pretty walky sim) could be up your alley? I'm sure other goons who have played them can chime in. I'm just assuming you've played The Stanely Parable by this point, but if for some reason you haven't I think I have an old humble key for it kicking around.

Awesome! posted:dungeons of dredmor was probably fine for its time but these days there are much better roguelike options yeah of course, it was just the first one that popped into my head when I thought of "accessible traditional roguelikes that aren't mostly ASCII". Now that I think of it, maybe something like Tangledeep or Sproggiwood would fit the bill better now for a more casual roguelike? I dunno, is there a new go-to intro now for first roguelike? I haven't played many in a long while. But Dredmor is still plenty enjoyable still if you mostly play roguelites but would like to also try out a roguelike without getting too far down the rabbit hole.

The terms get thrown around interchangeably a lot though and there is plenty of grey space in between I'm sure (let the arguments over the proper terms begin) I was just trying to think of an alternative more traditional roguelike to recommend you other than Caves of Qud, which started the roguelike conversation I stick by my other two -lite recommendations if you like stuff like Dead Cells, Spelunky, Ziggurat, etc. Hades and Risk of Rain 2 are great.

The biggest difference is that you can't even buy the PTDE anymore on Steam, your only DS1 option is Remastered. I guess you already own PTDE? "Slightly updated" is pretty accurate, and emphasis on the slightly. The only time I'd recommend shelling out the money for the Remaster over just playing PTDE with DSfix is if you want to have co-op/pvp experiences. This video explains why in depth better than I can.

I like walking sims but after looking at it Death Stranding doesn't appeal to me (I honestly can't think of something I've liked that has used CGI versions of real actors either), but I always out of habit check if a game has native 21:9 support or if I'll have to mod it when looking into it. Real neat, I admit it does look pretty and their Steam launch trailer makes it explicitly clear that it includes ultrawide suppo- Ultrawide steam curator posted:Death Stranding has full 21:9 support in gameplay & cutscenes However, this is *literal* 21:9 support - i.e. a 3440x1440 monitor will show 3360x1440 with small black bars on the sides.

My favorite thing about Spelunky was that 98% of the time, the death was your fault and not just RNG screwing you over. It's designed insanely tightly even compared to other high polish roguelites. That meant that once you got the game mechanics down though that if you went meticulous and very slow you'd be fine, which necessitated the timer/ghost to discourage doing that. Then again once upon a time I was a Spelunky addict; have all the achievements, broke the millions score a few times, and did nearly everything in the game except the completely insane eggplant challenge run.
