Flesh Forge posted:oh I guess this was a conservative talking point today This data lags by 1-2 weeks, as the disclaimer on top says. The US is currently at 67000 dead. "COVID-19 death counts shown here may differ from other published sources, as data currently are lagged by an average of 1–2 weeks." "Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction, age, and cause of death." Lambert has issued a correction as of 09:45 on May 3, 2020 |

Notorious R.I.M. posted:Going outside is fine. Being in close proximity to other people that generate droplets is what's dangerous. This is actually an important point because all we have to do to give people adequate space outside is tear away some of our public space given to cars. We have an amazing opportunity to destroy car culture sitting in front of us all while letting people improve their mental health. Some European cities like Vienna have rededicated some streets to pedestrians and bikes last month. I'd certainly enjoy less space given to cars.

Those are very low numbers for something everybody should be in favor of even when no pandemic is going on. The US has extremely low voter turnout, things need to change.

It's kind a baffling how little the Democrats and Biden have been able to steer public discourse. Both seem entirely gone from the conversation (with the exception of brief interludes, like Pelosi bragging about her freezer full of ice cream)

I am assuming the news I'm seeing isn't telling the whole story? Or has Sweden been mostly life as usual this whole time? Sweden closed universities, prohibits gatherings over 50 people and has distancing requirements for establishments like bars and restaurants. Mobility data also shows that Swedes have been staying home way more.

If anything, it greatly enabled it by causing police to militarize to an extreme degree. You're not bringing about the revolution, your gun is useless.
