there's something really perverse about trying to interpret a series's plot elements and themes in that format. like instead of engaging with the content on a serious level, they're engaging with it solely as something to be mined for content

its so funny how low IQ /v/ posters are. that matthewmatosis vid about dark souls 2 was so popular with that kind of guy because he pandered to them, and that video can be boiled down to matthew being incapable of understanding themes in a game and incapable of actually playing the game (dude gets his rear end kicked by prowling magus and the congregation, which is one of the easiest fights in any souls game).

I think my absolute favorite thing about MDickie games is that for some reason all of them have tribunals whenever your character inevitably gets arrested, including the recent school sim one, and its clearly just a coin flip on whether you get a slap on the wrist or not for throwing a bomb at someone in school

Someone should introduce Mother's Basement to Homestuck. It has everything you could want! my friends got me to read that like two years ago because they thought it would be funny and I must have written like a dozen posts in our group chat that read like fuckin survival horror game journal entries where things get gradually worse over time and i go more and more insane with how fuckin stupid everything gets

for me, homestuck peaked at the first act, which was pretty funny, and then it just kept getting into dumber plot points that weren't funny as time went on and then the troll stuff happened which restarted the plot but at least had some comedy to it and then all comedy was drowned in a whirlpool of time travel and alternate dimensions and really long blog posts. could not possibly bother finishing after that

pillars has an interesting setting that’s introduced extremely poorly, a main quest that’s high-concept without any like compelling personal investment, and a lead villain who is a fun concept with zero charisma. this combines to a game that had a lot of individual parts i enjoyed but no lingering emotional response besides a shrug

Yeah, I feel like if they quickly established Thaos as your main rival and the guy you have to deal with or you straight up die would've been more interesting. Hell, he has the best excuse for him to be a constantly recurring villain instead of a guy you see like three times: he can possess people and use them as his puppets. They could pretty easily have had him show up again and again just to gently caress with you, since you can't actually kill him.

After Baldur's Gate 3, I find that their main quest works better at the start than PoE because BG3 does a much better job of funneling you to the fun stuff. There's this really great area early on in Pillars of Eternity 1, Raedric's Castle, that should've been the first act's conclusion. It has all these hidden paths into and throughout it, trapped areas you have to weave through carefully, challenging fights with his guards who have capabilities similar to your party, ways to disguise yourself to sneak into places, and a good starter villain who has gone insane and become a tyrant because of one of the main conceits of the game's plot (he can't have an heir because his kids are being born without souls). This is, somehow, completely optional; the real conclusion to Act 1 is you leveling up enough through side quests that don't really have all that much to do with your problems to avoid getting your rear end kicked by ghosts in a flat courtyard and a flat throne room, go downstairs into a floor that's about seven rooms total, squash some bugs, and then beat up an old man squatting in a ruin who has magical dementia. BG3's act one always sends you towards people that have personally antagonized you in some way or have some sort of clue as to what's up with the tadpole situation, and everything of consequence is in an amazingly laid out area with some many approaches to get through it. I get that Pillars of Eternity was made really really fast because everyone wanted to save the company before they went under, but its so rough to play.
