The idea everyone in the city is a metropolitan elite when a poo poo ton of the richest people literally live in the middle of loving nowhere is insane. As someone who's only ever lived in an urban area of a city the countryside has always seemed like where all the rich people live whereas normal people live in the city. Hell the most rich person in my family legit lives in a village of 500 people and has significantly more money than any of us in the city lol.
