It seems a bit more sinister than that. They need the military to protect their own citizens and secure themselves when we reach climate collapse.

Been thinking Kazinski wasn't wrong. You can try escape it by moving to the wilderness and living off the land. But eventually the government's running things are going to gently caress things up so bad your offgrid home becomes unlivable. I've not read his manifesto but maybe theres something in there on how to deal with that contradiction.

Worried about how bad things will get as civilization slowly collapses from climate change? Don't be, warm autumns are delaying trees going dormant for winter. If you kept bonsai you know how important it is it to let them go dormant for winter. Many a beginner has killed theirs keeping it indoors all year round. They won't survive more than a few years without their natural dormancy period. While you may have been worried how bad things would get as nations slipped into fascism as civilization slowly collapsed. Now you can rest in the knowledge things may fall apart over a much short time frame than we thought. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/article/fall-foliage-disrupted-by-climate-change-might-be-new-normal quote:“We ought to be concerned potentially, not just about timing of change for autumn, but whether or not it portends some forest collapse,” says George Mason University ecologist Rebecca Forkner. “While nobody wants to be the ‘sky is falling’ kind of person, we do understand these changes are the plants telling us something is not right.”

Yeah he's disagreeing with the video because he denies the thesis that climate change is unstoppable, though mitigable, because the IPCC says if we cease all emissions right now we have a small chance of stopping all climate change problems. And the mod CommieGir is arguing with him against a strawman they've constructed. And that first guy is just an eco-fascist Thug Lessons posted:Okay. My perspective differs. When he finished his studies he just left it parked on the road until it got towed away. Rich people do buy hundreds of cars and in some cases barely use them. The cost of emissions per mile driven must be through the roof for some rich people's cars considering the manufacturing emissions to make them.

bedpan posted:used tires can't be just tossed into a landfill like normal garbage because they will gradually make their way to the top and burst out of the ground. we have known this for decades and been trying to come up with a cheap way of disposing of used tires for the same amount of time. the current favorite dumping methods are to put the tires into huge piles and wait for a stray spark to start a tire fire or just throw the tires into an incinerator. I know here farmers used to take tires for free, now I think they charge a small fee. They use them to weigh down the black plastic on green cuttings to turn it into sileage. eventually the tires wear down and they replace them. I think the modern method there's machinary to bale up cuttings in plastic wrap as it's harvested which turns to sileage in the bag. Then they burn the plastic sheeting after it's used. Never really thought about it before but might be concerning that cow feed is produced in plastic and could be the introducing it to the food chain.

At least Stalin had a plan for reforesting and refused to capitulate to industry heads who wanted to run a tree credit scheme where they could leave forests in the far East and chop down everything in the western industrial centres. Most protected ecological regions were undone at his death but a few managed to survive until Putin finally got rid of them a decade ago. It wouldn't have undone all the emissions needed to modernize but who knows the permafrost might not be melting and releasing all that methane.

With regards to carbon capture. I'm guessing that's brought forward a solution so we don't have to reduce emissions. But do we even know how viable and safe it is to pump gigatonnes of carbon into the earth. And guarantee it won't seep back up like methane from melting permafrost

He slept with her to get deeper into the activist movement and give himself an air of legitimacy. You got your timeline all hosed up. He went undercover in 2002, didn't move in with her into a houseshare with other activists until 2004, helped spy on their activities until 2009 when they all got busted trying shut down a coal power plant. Not long after that he got pulled from the assignment. Then he got found out cause his then girlfriend found his true identity as all his fake documents had been taken when the assignment was finished. That's 7 years undercover and no one would have ever known had he not continued to date one of the activists. Just think how many undercover ops we don't know about cause the undercover wasn't horny and dipping back into his role so he could have an extramarital affair.
