I bet they come out with a completely ridiculous twitter-breaking team that gets wiped out in the first two hours to make room for their real C3 characters.

I would really love that narrative conceit lol

One of the best one shot convention games I ever played in was a Cyberpunk 2020 game where we started out in an elevator breaking into some corporate facility. The doors open up, we walk into a hail of gunfire, and everyone's dead in like two combat rounds. Then the GM hands out new character sheets and the Fixer NPC turns off the recording and says, "That's what happened to the last team we sent in there. I hope you can do better."

Really wakes you up to start off THAT way!

After seeing this, I'm hoping they announce tonight that Paizo backed up a dumptruck full of money to their studio so they are switching back to Pathfinder.

Given how not well Starfinder and Pathfinder 2.0 have done, I doubt Paizo HAS a dumptruck full of money anymore. The wheelbarrow full of loose change they do have probably isn't enough to move the CR dials any. Not compared to D&D Beyond money, anyway.

e: And anyway, if they were to do that, they'd want CR to play Pathfinder v2 which is NOT the game you're remembering, so you wouldn't get that regardless.

What I like most about Fearne is that she's the first of Ashley's characters who is more active than reactive. Having Ashley be the straw that stirs the drink is a nice change to the usual party dynamics.

With Taleisin's rolling it looks like we're on pace to have No Mercy Ashton for Campaign 3.

More to the point, he's almost certainly got the Criminal background, what with the pickpocketing, so he's probably got Thieves' Tools prof as well.

Well, let's see where this is goin'. I still think that Bertrand and the EXU folk aren't going to stick around for long.

Honestly, it could be an indicator that the whole cast will be fluid. Some of the new PCs might cycle in and out, guest stars could be more common and stay for longer....it could be closer to the LA by Night model where there's a huge cast and only some of the main players are in any given episode.

So is it just me or is Bertrand a lot more humble and encouraging?

It has been several in universe years since we've seen him last, he could have mellowed. On the other hand the relationship between him and the Old Orc Guy (who's name is escaping me at the moment) seems rather less friendly than Bert first suggested, so possibly he's been beaten down some by events?

It's also possible that Liam wanted to give some of the rest of the table a chance to be the most obvious Drama Source. While he's generally pretty good about sharing screentime, Vax and Caleb both ended up with a lot of Main Character Energy in their respective campaigns, even though in practice both ended up not necessarily "the protagonist."

That IS what he said in that Talks Machina...that he wanted a basic Halfling Fighter with no backstory whatsoever, and well, he delivered.

I get the feeling Liam is kind of angling Orym to be the Cadeuces Clay of this group in as far as he seems like he's going to be the reliable one that generally helps everyone else be their best selves. I get the feeling Marisha, Laura, and Taliesin will probably be the high drama characters, and Ashley is going to be the chaos dervish kind of like how Jester was in C2

Meanwhile Sam will be somewhere between Liam and Ashley. He'll act like a support character, especially in combat, but he's verbally going to be a chaos broker. Kinda hard to predict how Travis fits in since we're not sure if he's keeping Bert or what, though.

Hulk Smash! posted:

With the exception of Imogen and Orym (:geno:), the rest of the cast feels more like one-shot characters than long term PCs. Curious to see how they'll develop over a full campaign.

Excepting Fresh Cut Grass, I don't really see that. Laudna is no more exotic than Fjord or Yasha were in C2. Ashton's just the party Barbarian (because Crit Role ALWAYS has a Barbarian for some reason) with Tal playing him like a punk teenager. And none of the EXU holdover characters are that unusual, really.

Fresh Cut Grass is the only one who stands out, but hell, if anyone's going to make an oddball character like that work, it's going to be Sam "I'm doing this voice for the next two years motherfuckers!" Riegel.

That said, Bert is the one who's probably getting swapped out sooner or later. Being two levels higher for one thing, and the character not really seeming up to full time adventuring anymore for another.

I just figured Bertram was the inciting incident to kick off the plot. He's gonna get killed in the upcoming fight, but his last words will be to "Find X" or something like that.
Travis' actual character will get introduced in the search for X and we're off to the races. Or he's out for a few weeks with something else, and then they introduce him.

If you're going to kill a PC, now's the time to do it, before anyone can cast Revivify and while they're way too poor to pay a higher level Cleric for Raise Dead.

I wonder if Laudna isn't some sort of Revanant template. Given what we know of her so far the racial abilities don't line up, she isn't just spontaneously regenerating every turn or what have you. But when that gentle repose hit and Matt made it sound like they cut off something, part of me wonders if there isn't some way for her to self revive.

http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/revenant-ua

Revenant was an early early ua and unbalanced as gently caress, but I could definitely see Matt and Marisha making a pass on it.

I played a Revenant Shadow Sorcerer in a Ravenloft campaign once. I went in knowing the poor bastard was probably hosed and, indeed, he didn't make it to the end of the campaign. But man, the UA version of Revenant is BUSTED strong.
