You can hardly say someone ‘deserves to die’ even if the enlisted because they believed patriotic nonsense (rather than being conscripted or enlisting because your a poor kid without a fit education and there aren’t many steady career options), how many people can actually claim to have a solid grip on life before, say, their mid twenties?

Just come across this app:

Find your location (you can say within however many km) and see what shops are giving 'magic bags' of unsold edibles away (with a time they're doing them and apparently you can reserve them too). Greggs is one of our locals - £2.59 bags.

I think it was mentioned in this thread s couple of months ago because I started using it after that - very nice the amount of Greggs stuff you can get from a bag. £2.59 gets a couple of sandwiches, some sausage rolls, some bakes, and a few donuts.

Have recommended it to all my friends and now one of them does pretty much all his shopping in there, buys mystery bags from supermarkets and then lives for the week on whatever he gets.

And the Academy is in the wrong for suggesting they might remove Smith's Oscar because they sure as hell didn't previously have a problem with handing them out to physically and sexually abusive men.

Alternately, everyone was in the right for making one of the few genuinely entertaining Oscar moments for the last couple of decades, and provoking some of the most hilarious hot takes I’ve ever seen on Twitter.

And here’s a great example: very little difference in support for the conversion therapy ban for trans people than for gay people. But their conception of ‘normal people’ is that they’re weirded out by trans people so they have to keep avoiding taking any position that could be perceived as taking their side despite that notion not actually having any basis in reality.

The amount of hate Owen Jones gets is absurd for someone who is at most a soft left melt and will never actually abandon the Labour Party. He’s astute enough to raise the problems and so gets it hard from the libs, but too timid to do anything about it so he gets it from the left too. And obviously the right will call him a communist as they do anyone who doesn’t want to just kill all foreigners.

I’m interested to see how these local elections shake out to be honest, I’m seeing a much greater amount of Green Party campaigning in my ward compared to usual. Because I’m on a main road Labour are always out the week before the election asking if they can put a sign on the front gate (this is the first time I’ve refused them) but I’m actually seeing about as many Green Party signs this time as well - not sure how much this is actually a reflection of people’s views versus how much it is increased Green campaigning, but either way I’m wondering if they’ve seen a weakness for Labour in this, a majority Muslim area of Bradford.

I agree with Owen Jones on the vast majority of things but the point of departure is that he refuses to look beyond reforming Labour and wont accept that it’s unsalvageable. Which is a huge chasm because try to fix the party versus trying to provide an alternative are utterly contrary tactics. If I want to see the Labour Party go down in flames then if he wants to cling to it, he can’t help but get burned for me to get what I want.

Polly Toynbee is absolute garbage though, who the hell would suggest a former candidate for the SDP as a lefty we should be trying to find common ground with?

Greens didn’t end up taking my ward (Heaton, Bradford) this time but the difference in results from 2018 to now is insane:

2018
Labour 2969 (75%)
Green 485 (12%)

2022
Labour 2088 (46%)
Green 1914 (42%)

This is a majority Muslim ward, if anyone is wondering about how Keith’s new racist policies are being received in this community.
